Just had a look at the starting lineup vs Exeter

Mckeown 30
Hendrie 25
Waterfall 29
Pollock 18
Gibson 22
Hessenthaler 25
Cook 29
Robson 22
Wright 21
Ogbu 28
Rose 20

Pretty young team with nearly half being under the age of 23.

An outfield average age of 23.9, 24.5 if you add in Macca.

Think MJ's previous work as a youth coach has given him the confidence to throw some of these younger players into the mix or more just a case of circumstance? Either way it paid dividends on the weekend and long may it continue.

UTM!

"If your good enough you're old enough ".

What I mean to say is that the youth players have to be ready to play, not just chuck them in the first team because they are local. I think NW is doing a fantastic job bringing through talented players.

We were very fortunate to have a golden generation of the Moore, Drinks, Fordy etc. It doesn't happen very often that so many quality players emerge at the same time. Just look at Man U and how they had a similar golden generation, but it dried up.

Could this be the start of another golden generation for Town?

We have a very good mix of youth and experience,

Our best team in my years following town ( 65 years ) had the same mix with very good young players coming through the ranks.

Lets hope this squad can achieve something similar .

The big difference is Robson who is a youngster but sadly is not one of ours. He not only has the skills and motor, he has the football brain that marks him out as a class above, say, Clifton. His second goal was a brilliant example of arriving in the box at just the right time and a top class finish. It was like Brian Robson at his best and we have not had a midfielder with that capability for a long time.

The average age of our line-up was 26.6 and Exeter's team was 30.2.

Most teams in League 2 seem to have an average age of around 28

Pollock might only have been 18 during additional time.  It was his birthday Sat.

Sunday's game - Barnsley vs Brentford - 2 of the youngest teams in that league and what a game they gave the fans !

Running, harrying, chasing , good passing, excitement from end to end attacks.

A feast of honest football in horrid wet condiions.

An aspiration to aim for, to get the young ones good enough to challenge the older hands for their places.

Busby babes in fact most rebranded Manure sides do best with plenty of youth in the side.

Our problem might be keeping them long enough to make a difference but then that as always been the case.
