Posted by: Madeleymariner, September 25, 2019, 8:45pm; Reply: 70
They are simply quicker and better man for man than us, We look laboured the odd times we get possesion and after our goal they have sussed to only challenge Hanson with one player for goal kicks and stand the other defender off behind for the 2nd ball, WE need some pace bringing on, Cracking finish from Green then blows it with the stupid penalty. Hes supposed to be one of the senior players!
But who knows what thje 2nd half will bring, might get mullered or might cause a shock, UTM
Posted by: Davec, September 25, 2019, 8:49pm; Reply: 71
Well a terrible start to the game, just sat back and watched them do their stuff and we only reacted when they was on our penalty area! Same for the 2nd goal! It's almost we was star struck and couldn't move! Since then we've started to close down more and attempt to put pressure on the ball that and Hanson winning plenty of headers has allowed us to create some chances, terrific goal by Green but he let himself down with a needless challenge! I feel if we can close down and put pressure on the ball and get men around Hanson we can cause them more problems! I would certainly make a couple of subs at half time.

Honestly don't think it's bad marking as much as exhaustion against class opposition who move beautifully. It was noticeable at palace in January that premier league players are so physically strong which makes it doubly difficult

7-1 is massively disappointing but we were done after 60. The fitness levels were worlds apart, it seemed  Chelsea had two men in every position where we had one.

As a town fan it was a bit shite to watch but as a football fan you have to sit back and admire the football that they played.

Pity it was a big score in the end but soon as we went 2 down the Jolly plan of just camp out in our own area was out of the window, then couldn't make subs after 10 mins really so left with 10 chuggers for the next 40 mins. Unfortuneately 90 mins of hard work and endeavour not enough against prem league players, whereas in league 2 thats going to get you points.
Exeter next lets hope we're smarting from tonight and ready to show the world what we're really capable of.

I wonder how many of their players earn more each week than all of our players combined? Most of them, probably.

Not a good result, but it wasn't exactly a settled defence so perhaps not too surprising we apparently let some soft goals in. For comparison, I went to the game at Hillsborough where we lost 7-1 and the gulf in league placings between those two teams wasn't nearly as large.

Or, on the other hand, 6 of their goals came from experienced full internationals with the other coming from a youngster who is in the England Under-20s.

How many international caps in our team, again?
Posted by: denni266, September 25, 2019, 9:56pm; Reply: 118
Thought we did as well as we could.. they where far far better than us in all departments. 7 was no where near what they could have had. some of there players earn more a week than out squad is worth every week. the lads gave what they had , but the gulf is far beyond us to overcome.

Chelsea, currently reigning champions of a European competition, winners of the premier European competition within the last decade... no shame in tonight whatsoever. Great first half after 2 early goals .. never a pen which totally changes the teams confidence and half time talk . They were all over us second half after being told to go for the throat after the cushion of 3-1 which they did . Thatā€™s why theyā€™re prem players and weā€™re L2 away from home .
No disgrace tonight lads , you did your best and weā€™re proud of you .

Seriously? Penalty all day long.

Fraid it was, almost as blatant as got us the penalty at Braintree and 3 yards away from the ref

Absolutely a penalty.
Great effort but lacking basic defending.

When I saw the team sheet I really did think we would do well to keep it down to single figures. Trying to be too clever and just close them down and frustrate them for 90 minutes was the plan no doubt and it was always 5 at the back not 3 and a midfield with runners but little attacking threat. Shame, I think the manager badly overthought and misjudged his game plan and did his players no favours. They gave everything and deserved better for their efforts.

Massive gulf in class underlining how shocking the financial state of football is. Sky have massively skewed how difficult it is for clubs like us to compete.

Great show by our fans but the reality is that we canā€™t bat above our weight like we used to.

I don't think so.
Other side's such as Colchester,Burton & Oxford have produced shocks tonight.
Even Rochdale took Utd to penalties.
Great effort on and off the field but some of the defending was naive to say the least.

In what universe was that not a penalty? Green had hold of the guy for several seconds before dragging him to the floor, very silly. He's also the one who cost us a goal after running into the wall for no reason at Salford. Had to watch that again to figure out why that happened and then was annoyed at him doing that for no reason like how he dragged somebody down in the box who wasn't even a threat just because.  ;D

Unlucky lads, felt for Macca who pulled off some cracking saves, and Town fans as ever were fantastic.

It seems really hard for the Chelsea fans to get behind their multi million pound squad, must be filling their faces with prawn sandwiches.

We are 3 divisions below them that's like us playing someone from the Northern Premier League such as Nantwich Town who are 9th in that league.... maybe we'd beat them 7-1!!  They scored 3 in the last 10 minutes when our defence would be totally bolloxed!
Big difference in class, one of their players might earn more in a month than our entire squad earn in a year!

I don't mind being outclassed, but our defending was shocking, Hewitt was very poor, and was out of position nearly every time they attacked. Fitness levels shouldn't be an excuse either, Colchester,  Oxford and Burton competed well enougj against prem teams, and whilst I didn't expect us to win I thought we'd put up a good fight,. The person I feel sorry for is Macca, who was outstanding....anyway we move on, UTM.

just close them down

A plan that was forgotten after about 3 minutes and 40 seconds!

We where outclassed as they have so much talent in such depth. I know you canā€™t compare but Chelseaā€™s 2bd string tonight looked like they would have given the Palace side we played in January a right spanking too.

Thought Town worked hard but they where chasing shadows, proud of the players and proud of the fantastic support.

Very disappointing and embarrassing in the end. I thought at 2-1 we were still in it and if we could have gone in at HT at 2-1 who knows. Green is turning out to be a bit of a liability I'm afraid overshadowing a great goal , silly man
