Same, had to Google him and then it rang a bell as the player who Manchester United loaned from Bolton a few years back!

Not for me.  I think it's left-back where we need to be looking but otherwise I think we're pretty much sorted.

The Notts County view - skilled, flexible, injury prone and a potential bad egg. Pick which one you believe

Thought he was easily Chesterfields best player two seasons back when he was on loan there. Certainly ticks the creative midfielder box.

In a team that finished rock bottom of League 2 he was easily the best player? That's something I suppose...

We used to like signing midfield players from relegated teams

Dont see anyone now moaning about us signing elliott Hewitt from notts county  ;)

Jolleys signings this season have been spot on. Why can't we just let him sign players , he's doing all right so far!

Sounds like most players people come up with really. Somebody sees a player leaves a club and suddenly they want him here.

Notts County fans seem quite positive about him. Showed glimpses but never got a run in the team. I remember Nolan seeming like an underwhelming signing but in the right team...

Maybe, but you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you get a prince........

Who has said they want him here?
The OP reported some news and then posed a question. That’s all. Old Codger said he thought he was Chesterfields best player 2 years ago but didn’t say he thought we should sign him, and that’s it.

Hope we don't continue this trend and sign anyone from scunny at the end of the season.

Saw him play at Morecambe for Chesterfield under Jack Lester a couple of seasons ago. Was the death throw for Chesterfield in the Football League but Kellett was tricky and skilful - played well (a bit of a Dave Gilbert I thought).

I don't think Jolley is really in the market for a creative type now.  This season looks to all be about power, pace and energy.  I'm not saying I don't think we would benefit from some creativity but I'm not sure that our approach at the minute would lend itself to someone off that ilk.

Even those who are our more creative players, such as Ogbu and Wright are utilised more for their physical attributes than technical ones.

I think having Cook in the middle means we are just short of a LB or a utility defender who can cover across the back.

Everything is quiet on the transfer front-not many last minute signings being done anywhere. Unless Jolly is in negotiations I can't sensibly see anything other being done before 5-0pm Monday

Agreed. Cook fits in with the tempo and intensity of the midfield options, whilst giving a bit more attacking intent.

Still think we need to look at an option at left-back, Gibson looked fitter last night but, as with Ring, I'm not convinced about his defensive abilities.  Macclesfield knocked it about nicely last night all over the pitch but they were pulling him apart at times.  With a 4-3-3 you've got to have full-backs on both sides who can defend but also support the attack.  Hendrie and Hewitt do that fine but it's not balanced and we lack quality cover in my opinion.

Personally wouldn't mind Joe Grayson back here.

Conor Townsend isnt getting a look in at west Brom

Agree that Cook seems to have "solved" our perceived midfield issue for the time being. I always saw him as a similar player to Sam Jones, so glad a space has been found for him.

I am still finding it difficult to get used to the fact we have so many genuine goal threats on the pitch. It's certainly allowing Hessenthaler to go about his game without having this thrown at him.

Of course we'd like him   Of course we can't afford him

We've got two left backs (quite liked Gibson last night) already and Hendrie, Davis, Gibson and Hewitt have all played various roles in defence.

I can only agree golfer. But it’s a nice thought seeing Connor bounding down the left and Hendrie bombing down the right.

If carlsberg did league 2 full back combinations 🙂

i have always remembered Nathan Jones assessment of him as the most talented player in the luton squad and his apparent frustration that he hadn't been able to find a role that really suited Cook. I'd love to know from Walsall fans where they played him, as he seems to have been most successful there
