Thought he was outstanding once again today, won’t be long until the scouts come flocking if he continues as he has done this pre season. That’s 30 minutes in the league against Jayden stockley, 90 minutes last week against John marquis and again today against Ivan Toney and mo eisa. Barely put a foot wrong and looks so comfortable it’s frightening. MJ told me at a mariners trust evening that he was the one young player that he had the biggest hopes for and this last week I’ve seen why. Without wanting to put too much pressure on the lad, I think hes going to be one hell of a player.

It was quite funny watching grown men getting grumpy with him because he’s so physical (Eisa kicked out at him in the first half). The lads not old enough to vote yet and he’s imposing although I bet he doesn’t struggle getting served for pints!

I'm already looking forward to reading nonsense posts in 2028 about how Peterborough bought out his sell on clause for 27p

He should never leave Town with a name like that   ;)

Stevenage got 1.5 Mil for Ben Wilmott who made 10 appearances for their first team a few years ago, Pollock is similar age now to Wilmott was when we first played for Stevenage, if Pollock progresses as much as he could then that 1.5 Million should atleast what we should be looking for dependant on what clubs are interested.

What’s with this ‘Mattie’ ‘ie’ nonsense?
Isn’t he Matthew/Matty?

That's how he spells it

There were some very well timed tackles, blocks and no nonsense clearances. Loved watching him steam back on a recovery run to slide tackle their wing back in the first half and perform another  ankle high header in the second. As Michael Caine might say, 'He is only .....seventeen.... years .....old!'

You have to say, his performances are very encouraging considering his age. I'd say he's a bit more of an 'old fashioned' centre half than, e.g. Bennett, but he's done a good job so far. He certainly looks capable of being a very good player in the bottom two divisions, perhaps the Championship as well in due course, though I don't think he'll have the pace for the top level.

Let's hope he plays plenty for us this season - though perhaps not too much, given his youth. Don't want him to burn out though he seems physically capable of the job at the moment.

I wonder why then, around the Crystal Palace FA cup game when practically all of our centre backs were either suspended or injured, he played players out of positions for games at an end, unstead of starting the centre back Pollock. I have issues with his managerial decisions, the board should and has not been wiped clean. He's under pressure immediately IMO after the end of last season. X's away by all means, but I have a memory and the squad is largely unchanged.

Sorry, forgot

mindless positivity. While other clubs sign quality. Come back in ten weeks and we'll discuss. Say early October when we are about 17th.

Might be a bit of a lazy comparison but he reminds a lot of Shaun Pearson!

Mattie carries on progressing like he is, he could be next to go over million

To be totally honest, he reminds me of young Harry Maguire...watched him yesterday and he carried the ball out of defence, around  25 towards, towards the centre circle before dropping a lovely ball into Hanson...

Whisper it quietly but I’ve not been that impressed by a youngster probably since the Bennett days.

Very early days but all the signs are there for him to be a top quality central defender.

And where on earth did i say it wasnt allowed!? Throwing a 17 year old in against palace when he hadnt started a game for us would have been a huge call. We lost 1-0 with 10 men and we played well.

Given he was picked up after leaving Leeds’ academy, it makes you wonder how many quality young players are wasting their careers after being hoarded in u18, u20, u23 squads at Prem & Championship teams.

The problem with that is the damage done to a youngsters fragile confidence after rejection by the parent club . Most youngsters who break into the better sides have bags of confidence and they exude that in the way they play like Brooks,Gray,Sterling,Arnold,Foden in the top flight . The problem is for every one of them who breakthrough 20 get shown the door and never recover look at Adam Drury from here who was on City`s books. The ability isn`t really in question for them to play it`s the physical and mental toughness I have been disgusted in previous Season`s with Town constantly bringing in loaness whilst youngsters never got a chance thankfully under Jolley this seems to have been addressed. Home grown youngsters are the way forward they care the fans give them that bit more leeway and you get a Ryan Bennett it can balance the books for a year or more and allow the Manager to bring in 2-3 quality players for that division.

Can we just enjoy having a good player on our books for a bit, without speculating how many millions we might get for him?

Swear some get more excited about potential price tags than the prospect of actually seeing them play well in the black and white.

We can but history tells us blink and you`ll miss it. John Oster was my favourite young player he oozed class at 16 and had the talent to be every bit as good as any of the top players of the past 20 years. He never fulfilled his potential but made a good career not sure but think he played around 20 games for Town before we flogged him he would be in my all time Town 11.

Yeah, fair. Just reminds me a bit of when Bogle was tearing it up in LG 2 and post match people would just bang on about how much he was gonna make us soon rather than talking about how great he’d just played.

I want to enjoy watching them play for Town and if like Ryan Bennett they move on and do well to me it`s a pat on the back for this Club putting them on the right path . Dean Henderson benefitted from coming here even with good and bad experiences it probably matured him a bit and hopefully Embleton will go on to do well afterw we gave him his breakthrough. I want this football club to get a good reputation in the game for championing youngsters weve spent far too much money on journeymen wasters after the one last payday. For every Danny Collins you get 10 Barry Conlons.

The trouble is sam, that that's the reality of where we are. I'm as guilty as anyone.not seen Pollack play but am already hoping he's as good as everyone says he is because his sale either keeps us afloat for several years under Fenty's regime Or hopefully gets 're invested intelligently under a new forward thinking set of owners.

Clifton, Pollock, Wright and Rose are all fantastic youngsters. Clifton is an energetic, tenacious and enthusiastic midfield engine. Pollock is a no nonsense, physical but skilful-on-the-ball, Wright is quick and can beat a man, and Rose is strong (still goes down too easy) and quick, and most certainly can beat a man.

Credit to the GTFC academy. If Clifton can add a bit more either defensive or offensive play to his game; Wright and Rose add more finished product consistently and Pollock's experience of league football, we will really have a brilliant young - Grimsby youth - squad.

Been told today that Luke Waterfall is signing by someone close at Lincoln. Can’t see it myself but we’ll see. Hope it is true.

Rose and Wright could be great options from the bench this season. After an hour of tussling with Hanson and Green, defenders will hate seeing either of them coming towards them.

Got 2 years left on a 3 year contract with L1 Shrewsbury. Just saying.

That would be a very good signing but as you said I can't see it happening, over 40 league appearances for Shrewsbury and 2 years left on contract, either we pay a fee or he's surplus to requirements, I can't see it being the latter or the former!
