Was reading the telegraphs Battersby article online.  Saw this headline, assume it means 'assesses'.

Are the proof readers on holiday?

What proof readers?

Daily Mirror Grimsby Telegraph proof reading works like British Leyland used to do pre-delivery inspections on cars. Cheaper not to bother and just wait to see if the customer complains.

i would say the proof readers are doing their jobs as well as they normally do....
