Getting irate on Twitter because a Bet Victor pundit has predicted they'll come 14th next season. They seem to think they've won it already. I remember thinking something similar our first season in the conference.

I don't think they'll finish 14th, but I certainly don't think they'll be certs to go up. From an outsider looking in, they've lost a lot of talent, from a team that collapsed anyway and they have a new manager who likes draws. I think Hurst will get them up eventually, but it won't be next season.

BTW - he predicted we'd be 11th. Quite well researched from what I read. Maybe that's what wound them up.

I don't think he WILL take them up.  I think he'll get sacked after 2 seasons of not going up, and they'll see their a#se about it.

Obviously I hope you're right. There'll be a lot of pressure on him and Swann.

I am struggling to give a excrement about them if I'm honest....

Really? Ex-manager who left under controversial circumstances, local rivals and in the same division?

Well based on Hurst's track record I expect they'll comfortably make it into the playoffs before spectacularly bottling them.

They will get to the play off final at Wembley,

In front of 5,500 of their fans,

BUT

Lose 3-0 to us who will have 17,500 mariners cheering us on. 8)

I think Scunny'll be decent enough this season. Similar to the teams that came down the season before, they have good players who should have maybe been more solid in the division above and should adapt to L2 fairly well. I think the problem they face in bouncing straight back is that there seems to be a fair few more teams this season who seem to be going for it.

Has anyone got a link to these predictions mentioned in the opening post?

Yes, really. I don't give a damn about them or their prospects. Local rivals or not, I have complete ambivalence to them. Same as any other club in our league.

I heard PH giving an interview on Humberside after they had been stuffed by West Brom.

Bloody hell, he was more boring than when he managed us (eek)

I find that odd. Maybe it's an age thing.

When he was our manager and he came on he radio, Mrs Gaffer would always say how boring and monotonous he sounded, wondered how he ever motivated players prior to kickoff.
On another note he will have the scunny players scared to death of us as he was always talking up the opposition.

They'll deny it but they'll be absolutely wounded if were doing better than them, bet Hurst would be too tbh

I don't have any in-depth knowledge of Scunny's squad or their summer business. All I know is that they have - whether we like it or not - a solid, if not spectacular, manager for this level.

He'll have them in and around the play-offs. Maybe top 3, if he repeats what he did with Shrewsbury. Maybe mid-table if the Ipswich hangover is still strong.

He'll get them to 10th/11th first season* then 9th/10th second in true Hurstonian style before Swann and the fans get fed up and dump him.

*Or Swann will pull the trigger afer the first 'dissapointing non-promotion' season.

I cant see Scunny being 'spoilt' this season :)

Swann sacked Graham Alexander with them safely in the play-off places. I can’t imagine he’ll suddenly become patient if Hurst doesn’t have them in the automatic promotion places in the final third of the season.

Hurst needs to be challenging for the top spot imo , they will have a top 3 budget and anything else mr Swann will sack him.

After the first few months of this new season, Hurst's team self depricating, bigging up the opposition, non performances and mono tone I can't see him making it to Christmas. How long will Mrs Wilkinson allow her heritage to be wasted by Swann before she has had enough.

His percentage football was boring to watch 90% of the time, and under him we never looked like a team with the bit between the teeth going for it, we always looked like a team happy to tread water once we got into the shallow end of a pool.

Told my scunny supporting mates that at least Town are guaranteed 6 points this season.

We should relish being the underdogs in this. Hurst will have one of his 5 non-scoring strikers up front and the top scorer rested for being too good. His rip roaring winger will be told to not venture 5 yards beyond the halfway line in order to keep us shape.

Say what you like about Hurst, but he has an excellent record of getting teams into the play offs when he has a decent budget, and that’s fact.
I’m not speaking as a fan of his particularly, but those mocking him might reserve ridicule for a bit as Scunthorpe  will doubtless have a bigger budget than us and seem, to my mind, to be much more likely to be challenging at the top end than we do.

Right on both counts, but I reckon the Hurst bigging up the opposition thing is accurate. We've all heard him do it here. He sent his team out to play with trepidation and caution. That held us back and unless he's changed the same will happen with Scunny.
