Genuine question. Do we have any leaders in the team, with Collins gone who’s going to captain the side? I like to see an influential box to box midfielder who gives the ref a bit of earache during the game as captain but we currently don’t have anyone like that. Love both Hess and Clifton but not captain material yet......imo

davis possibly, captain at crewe

True Davis was captain when at Crewe, Maccas worn the band at certain points and with further signings still to come we might have a few options for the armband.

I'd like to see Hendrie get it myself as he talks alot across the back and leads by example.

There hasn't been an anouncement about the captaincy for this season, so I wonder if Jolley has got a player in mind that's not signed yet.

Without wanting to detract from Davis’ captainship at Crewe, it probably helped that the manager was his dad.

Macca seems an obvious choice on many levels, there can’t be many players around these days who have served a club for as long as he has. That said, there’s something I don’t like about goalkeepers as captains. Or maybe I’m just haunted by the thought of Nick Colgan...

Hess would get my vote. Seems like a level headed lad - leads by example on the pitch and is one of the first names on the sheet.

Ogbu was captain at  IK Sirius and looks a real character... Not sure how his English is yet but i'd imagine its pretty good being Nigerian

I understand what people are saying but it has to be Macca unless MJ is bringing in a late major signing.
He's been a loyal and reliable servant and engages with the fans.  He then gets the players together and sorts out his generals around the side.  The best teams have many leaders - just look at the England World Cup winning Cricket side!

Clifton had the armband against Clee Town even though McKeown was on the pitch.  Not sure if that holds any significance.

I'm not a fan of having goalies as captains.(Not that I'm saying McKeown doesn't deserve to be captain). For me a captain should be out there in the field encourging his players during the game. It's pretty hard to do that if you're stuck back in goal.

Traditionally has been a central defender or a midfielder and I'd be happy with that once again. Not sure which one I'd pick, however!

Against Clee Clifton and Wright were captains.

Who were the captains at Grantham and Boston? I suppose we will have more of an idea of MJ's captaincy thinking on Saturday.

Hanson seems captain-like, but usually a defender or midfielder is ideal.

I love Macca and he is a great figurehead for the club with the fans and the community, but the primary purpose of the captain is to influence things on the pitch and I'm not sure he really does that.

We had too many situations last year where we were have been out-smarted by the opposition and not handled officials very well and I think someone like Hessenthaler or Hanson in their ear and trying to shift those small percentages in our favour would be helpful.

MJ has chosen his captain, but hasn't informed the player yet.

For me the captain has to be someone who plays almost every game.

Hanson may need managing when we get fixture congestion mid season so for me the candidates are:

McKeown
Hendrie
Hessenthaler

It would be great if the armband was given to Clifton in the tournament we don't speak about.

Not saying he should be captain, but talking about leaders I think Matt Green can lead from the top as well, a lot of experience to draw from.

I don't think it matters who's captain tbh, a leader will always lead with or without the armband in my opinion. Just because someone hasn't got the captains armband dosent mean they won't lead by example and give out instructions to players.

I think a good captain can make a big difference (Groves, Disley for example).  Personally I think it needs to be an outfield player, ideally a midfielder and someone who's likely to start every game apart from injuries/suspensions.  I'd got for Hess as first choice without a doubt.  Make him team captain and Macca club captain.

It's good to have several leaders on the pitch, Whitehouse too - I wonder if he has leadership qualities? Have high hopes for him, all being well he continues his recovery unabated.

Good call. Macca embodies the spirit of the club and I agree we need someone in the middle who can communicate with the team.
