Rather surprisngly, East Midlands Trains have added an extra train to Nottingham from Cleethorpes. It is direct with no need to change at Lincoln.

The train leave Cleethorpes at 09:18 calling at Grimsby Town 09:26, Habrough 09:36, Barnetby 09:47 and Market Rasen 10:04 and then goes direct to Nottingham, arriving at 11:25

After the game the direct train leaves Nottingham at 17:40 calling at Market Rasen 18:43, Barnetby 19:02, Habrough 19:11, Grimsby Town 19:21 arriving back into Cleethorpes at 19:43. Seems a big time gap between Gy and Clee there though!!

Price is £17.60 for a day return, which can be bought on the day.

I remember going to Hull, Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley on the football special back in the 1979/80 season.
When was the last time one of these ran?

Not sure. It's rather unusual for a Train Operating Company to add an extra service to the schedule these days.

I think I only ever went on three special trains, Wolves for the League Cup game when it broke down near Lincoln and we arrived late, Bolton and Hull on a Tuesday evening when hundreds forced the feeble fence down on the footpath from Boothferry Park Stadium station to the turnstiles and got in for free. ;D

This sounds great, BUT you know the downside, don’t you? I bet the coppers will swarm over it and make it a dry train 😢.

Just seen elsewhere that town fans CAN drink! A surprise, that. Wish I was going even more now....

It's only single track from Grimsby to Cleethorpes and adequate safety times have to be allowed.

This is unbelieveable. The train isn't 'dry' and it gets into Nottingham with plenty of time before kick off to have some more cold drinks. I suspect Notts police will have something up their sleeve, like marching everyone to some crap place when they get off the train.

Not sure where you are looking at that but it is £17.60 for an off-peak day return via Lincoln. (The train will go through Lincoln but doesn't stop there). It seems like you are looking at trains via a different route. It's £28.20 each if you go via Sheffield.

Straight to Hooters, you’d imagine.

There's another train at 11.15 ish. Gets in at 13.29

You WILL have to change at Lincoln if you get that one.

It's just the early special train that doesn't stop at Lincoln but all other trains via East Midlands Trains require a change at Lincoln.

Don’t think Hooters allows anyone in with football colours.
But I’d agreed they will be marched somewhere 😕

They did a couple of years ago. All town fans met up in there and headed off to the game. Black and white over the place.

One of the designated away pubs is the Trent navigation.  A right excrement hole a few years ago.
Alan rutter was on the doors and advised us not to go in.  We did and came right out again.  AR said i told you so.

Rated quite well on Trip Advisor though.

If you like real ales and a good selection of beers, I'd recommend the Stratford Haven in Bridgford. A shortish walk from the ground (less than a mile) and worth a trip, I reckon. Admittedly, I've not actually been there for a few years, but I'm assuming it is pretty much unchanged from my last visit.

From December 2021 we (I work for EMT, soon to be East Midlands Railway) will be bringing in direct Grimsby-Nottingham services every hour so when we visit Nottingham etc there will be no changes to make.

Oh, if we are talking pubs there are two craft pubs on the road of the station just turn right out of the main concourse past Tesco, they are pretty much next to each other and one very small place on the corner of the station, which is the opposite side of the concourse. Not sure on opening times for all.

Sure the Trent Nav is a home fans pub only, being closest pub to Meadow Lane - it was last time we tried to get in, we was then advised to go over to the Forest side of the river to The Southbank Bar

My daughter used to work there at The Southbank Bar West Bridgford while she was at uni a couple of years back

Caters pretty well for football fans by all accounts ( should do really as it's right next door to the City Ground by the Trent end ) and always used to have a good atmosphere she says ( apart from when Forest & Derby met!!  ??) )

Might give it a go...  https://www.southbankbar.co.uk/

Southbank Bar is OK. Almost got my head kicked in there once one evening but that was nowt to do with footy. Just a massive drunk bloke who was standing near the TV we were watching who thought we were staring at him! Close to Meadow Lane as well.

One last one.

If in the car, avoid J26 of the M1. Will 'be very busy round that area due to a travellers fair taking place.

Yeh another decent boozer that one - we did that one and then Southbank

Have a good day all tomorrow - still cant believe I'm not going as always enjoyed Notts away and always enjoyed the last away game of the season, , ,  I think like many we have put other stuff to spend our hard earnt money in front of watching the Mariners - especially with it being a season to forget , , ,  being in the top 7 or so and then it may have been oh so different! In fact if only that was the case eh? this message board would be full of "Ticket for Notts" threads!!
