Not really .3 at the back including RHJ then Hendrix and Grayson as wing backs. From what little I've seen Grayson looks marginally more like a wing back than ring, although that isn't saying very much, I grant you.

Grayson clears off the line and then they hit the inside of the post

From the sounds of things we should be behind, but we're not  -  just need to get a grip on things and take the game to them more than inviting pressure

We seem incapable of relieving pressure on ourselves.  It's been a problem since we started that appalling run under Slade; whenever the opposition create successive chances we lack the intelligence and will to turn the tide.

You say that like MJ has a record of giving the YTs game time. He doesn't.

Only 2 YTs have featured in league matches this season. Both Pollock & Burnell have had 1 substitute appearance each of 38 & 6 minutes respectively.

He hasn't even given A.Rose a start & age wise he's technically a 2nd year Pro.

Not to pick on grayson as its not really his fault but he does just look like a defender on the left wing, I don't think their defence is really too worried about him

I'm not excusing either the manager or the players, but think you're right in that we have just become accustomed to being the team on the back foot

The backs to the wall approach at the end of last season saw us escape by the skin of our teeth, but we've flattered to deceive this season

At least we've got the luxury of analysing things from a position of safety this Easter rather than us twitching nervously as we did this time last year

Got to have more belief in ourselves next season though, because the habit of letting the opposition have the lion's share of play is going to come back and bite us in the long run

Absolutely not. Plays about 6 positions and isn't particularly good in any of them. Somehow he's now viewed as a set piece specialist, but the only thing he specialises at is blasting free kicks into the first defender.

His distribution at Morecambe last week was really suspect too.... for someone of his experience and having played at a higher level, it's more than disappointing

I heard him being interviewed on RH a few weeks back saying he was enjoying his football and wouldn't mind another contract. Surely not??

I hope he doesn't get a contract, Hess can do his job and better and let Clifton sprint all over the pitch supporting both the defence and the Strikers.

Apart from a good 10 minutes when we first started and I was feeling a little optimistic. Since then Woolford has lost the plot and needs subbing desperately, Greyson has gone missing and as a result RHJ has become issolated down the left.

Apart from one moment Collins has been solid as has Davis and Hendrie, Hess has been putting in a Hess performance. Cardwell and Dennis have had nothing to work with since the opening 10 minutes and Vernam is once again working his socks off to no result at the moment.

We're sat far to deep (oh where have we heard that before) and just letting Colchester do whatever they want. We're not even close today so far.
Posted by: RoboCod, April 19, 2019, 3:52pm; Reply: 54
It's exactly a month since Wes Thomas scored his last goal for us. In the 6 games afterwards, and up to today we've scored 2. And taken 3 points.
We could do with a rocket scientist to work out this poor form, really we could.
Posted by: monkeyboy, April 19, 2019, 3:52pm; Reply: 55
What can i say about that half?

The midfiled apart from Vernam has been shocking, they may as well not have been on the pitch.
Woolford looks like a 90 year old, seriously though the team need a new midfield next season.
Defense have been fine but getting no protection, strikers been ok but no service from the mid.

Hess not having a great day but has been the only mid this season that can hold his head high.

Wooly needs shipping out at the season end. we need 3 new centre mids. Clifton is a few years away from being a regular starter for me but will be good.

No left back not helping either

Shocking.

But again thats a contradiction in itself. You've seen enough of both but you acknowledge neither gets enough service but you've made your mind up. Dennis could be alright with some service but hes done nothing. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Surely to make your mind up you need to see both strikers when they are getting a reasonable amount of service otherwise you're basing your opinion on the performance of their team mates not doing their jobs.

No one should be having a go at Cardwell and Dennis to be fair when they have had not one decent ball into them, even when they do get the ball there is only vernam anywhere near to support.
Posted by: Madeleymariner, April 19, 2019, 4:03pm; Reply: 63
Shocking performance, Woolford gives them a goal after a panic pass as they had a player starting to close nearly 10 yards from him halfway into our half, meanwhile their defence/midfield able to ping it around at will till 25 yrds from goal, were way too deep as usual. Get Pollock on for Collins and foff Woolford to further out of it than Thomas. Dont think Grayson has touched the ball after 1st 15 mins, and tyhat was clearing the stand from 20yrds with a shot when no real pressure and a beautiful free kick straight to the opposing player 15 yrds in front of him. (Unfair he did pick out Collins at rear post with another) Get the contracted kids on please. >:(

There's no disguising the fact that we are on an abysmal run of form, not scoring goals or creating chances. One shot on goal in the whole match smacks of desperately poor tactics, and nothing to do with Fenty, much as I've never been his biggest fan? The fans who still travel in numbers are a total credit to the club and deserve something better, surely.

It's exactly a month since Wes Thomas scored his last goal for us. In the 6 games afterwards, and up to today we've scored 2. And taken 3 points.
We could do with a rocket scientist to work out this poor form, really we could.

Sigh. My prediction for the last few games..
1 point.
No clean sheets.
No goals.

Just being facetious here. We will score one.

Still need another point to match last years total. Can't believe we will be (at best) only 9 points better than last season.

Wonder how Jolley will talk away this afternoon's performance.... depends on whether JT pushes him to explain how ineffective we were

I'm not subscribing to a witch-hunt but for us to have had only one single attempt on goal ( which was off target ) how can he justify his team's performance against a team that on form could have been there for the taking :-/

Agreed with all the above. Think we’ve dropped a whopper getting rid of Mitch Rose TBH

Amended accordingly!

Even if we were to have a boardroom clearout, I'm starting to have serious doubts about whether Jolley has what it takes to take us forward. 10 games without a win. 3 goals in that time. And only 3 of the teams we've played in that time have been above 12th place! He probably does have a shitty budget but you're telling me Cambridge, Crawley, Morecambe and Stevenage, who we've played in this run, have a lot more to work with given their attendances compared to ours?

The BBC stats:

Shots:   18 v 1

Shots on target:   10 v 0

Says it all really.  Even if I was not at the game.

From a distance and looking at the match stats, it looks as if they have given up totally now that they are 'safe'. One shot and that was not on the target. How on earth can you play for 90 plus minutes and not have more attempts to score? Did we actually get into their box? If I had travelled to this match to support the team I would want my money back. The players and the club should apologise and offer to refund those who travelled. It was an insult to the fans.

Very, very deflated and I take my hat off to those who have gone to games all this season and had to watch dross.

Starting with Michael Jolley.

No. For the love of god NO.

Of all the managers we've had since Hurst, Jolley has genuine potential. It's obvious that there are other issues in the club that constant rotation of managers is not going to cure. Lets at least keep a manager for more than a year and give him a chance to try and put together a squad that works. We're safe this season, promotion this season was always an ambitious pipe dream anyway.

Can you show me where the potential is pls. because i just dont see anything other than a coach with fine words, that along with many of us have got used or bored with..He persists with a system without the players that can play it.. His teams are toothless and dont know where the goal is. Plays players  out of position and expects the team to play well. .These are his players and it stops at him. We are so boring to watch half the fans stay down eating the pies rather than watch the re starts

Its not the manager, its the budget. we all know where the budget comes from.

On paper Jolley made a good couple of signings in Whitehouse and Welsh, one injured and the other just injured a crim or just past it.
3 new mids and a reasonable replacement for Collins will see a huge improvement.

No good getting rid of Jolley, i do believe he is building something and will take time. pay peanuts and it will take a while to build any quality!

Jolley going now would be just moving the deckchairs on the Titantic. Gives the captain the excuse he is doing something.

Potential? Really?

We all want a manager to be given time, but we need a decent manager who does enough to deserve time. Jolley reign is turning into a total shambles.

MJ did a great job last season. But that is last season.

How many players did he bring in for this campaign?

This was his full season in  charge and needed to kick on or show signs of potential.  He has done neither.

The manager is ultimately responsible for assembling the squad, picking teams, dictating tactics/formations and instilling how he wants his team to play.  At the minute it's all square pegs and round holes or failing badly at picking right formations.

But hells bells you know you are in f@cking trouble and how far expectations have fallen when a point at Morecombe is celebrated like it's a draw at The Nou Camp.

0 wins in 10 says it all and a team that is totally toothless. Can't be many teams who are on a worse run than us.

Definition of potential (in football)...

Doing crap, but we’re hoping he suddenly starts being less shite.

RHJ comes off and Burrell comes on for with 3 minutes of stoppage time to play.... what's the point?

Why not give him 20 minutes or so at least :-/

Tactics mate-Jolly good tactics. If he had 20 minutes he would be that disheartened he might give up football forever.

Although scunny are slowly falling into the relegation zone ( I bl@@dy do hope the get relegated) at this his moment it would be embarrassing to give them 6 points next season.

Bignot was a shambles, and so was Slade. So... are all the managers we hire just terrible, or as I say, are there wider issues that management changes simply will not resolve.
