I've just seen that today is the anniversary of the release of Joy Division's "Love will tear us apart again"  ( 1980 )

Got me thinking about the alternative football song, "We're taking over your town again" - remember Oldham giving a good rendition earlier in the season when they stuffed us

Anyway lo and behold, the Beeb have done a Top 10 pop-pickers ( showing my age )

Some good ones on there that we've adopted but a few that I'd bump out and replace with our own

John Denver's "Annie's Song" would be right up at the top for me and would fill up my senses!  :)

I remember when KC & the Sunshine Band's, "baby, Give it up" coincided with Town doing ok. There was a brief attempt to get the Pontoon singing " NaNa, NaNa, NaNa, NaNa, Na, Na, Na Grimsby's going up, going up, Grimsbys going up"
It didn't have a long shelf life and I guess we won't be singing again anytime soon.

Pretty sure i have heard a couple of times over the past few weeks a song to the tune of  Waterfall by The Stone Roses on some televised games, might have been Man Utd.
No idea of the words they use but the rythm / melody of the song was there i am sure.

Anyone else picked that up ?

The first line of it is ‘Now that Ole is at the wheel’, I saw some talk on Twitter of Town fans using it and simply replacing ‘Ole’ with ‘Jolley’

This was always my favourite in the Pontoon back in the day.

I like "we love you Grimsby, we do", not sure if it gets sung anymore lol

I remember singing this during the Buckley years, I always felt the players put that bit more in afterwards.

Remember loads doing the conga around the stand when it was played at half time at an away match one night, think it might have been Rotherham when I think Mendonca scored but cant remember if he was playing for them or us at the time.

My first memory of this was at Hillsborough about the time the song was released....’82?

To be honest the singing that day was more memorable than the football 😉
