Shame as I like him as a player. Think it’s obvious he was leaving anyway to go back down South so perhaps some minutes for Akheem Rose in the last few games...

I know he was our leading scorer but recently he has been poor so a great opportunity for someone else to stake a claim.

Maybe his frustration at the lack of service/formation boiled over on Saturday. He's not alone!

You always looked at his background and wondered why he came to us and however good a player might be/have been, if he doesn't want to be here then we don't need him. We've had enough journeymen here in the past.

I hope this altercation wasn't near the team bus. We've had enough players thrown under buses.

Jolley did mention in his post match interview that it is becoming clear that some players are wanting to be at the club next season more than others.

See ya🤣... obviously chucked his toys out the pram, oh wait there a minute, is that his dummy I see going back down the M1!!...
Think it's clear to see he'd gone off the boil, but makes you wonder if Jolley is feeling the pressure too and tempers got fraught!!..
Time to say thank you for your goals and look to the future', maybe Dennis might show us what he's really capable of in the closing games of this season.

Sad. We'll probably never get to know what happened after the game. He's a good striker at this level and I wanted him to stay but looks like that's that in all probability.

Perhaps that was why Harry Davis was so subdued in his interview post match.

Hope the politicians don’t find out or we will be in limbo for 3 years

Think it’s right that he goes as he wants to live with his family in the south. We should understand and accept that and move on

I don't blame him one little bit. You could see how frustrated he's been getting lately with this persistent lack of service. Over the years I have had arguments with bosses and so have most people and unless he planted Jolly I can't see why he has been suspended. Has somebody spit their dummy out because at the moment there is a lot of childish behaviour, but it seems the only way to get anywhere nowadays is a bit of arsekissing.

I’d be bloody frustrated at the lack of service too, but that won’t change till we either, get players in who can play in MJs system or he plays the players we have in their preferred positions IMO

He has not been right for weeks at Crawley he went straight off the pitch without even acknowledging the fans or shaking any of the oppositions hands at the time i thought was a bit strange. Living in Oxford myself all the Oxford fans at work said he was a good player in this division but had issues at Oxford as well.

I agree. Judging by his record he hasn't stayed at any club for very long and you have to question why? The last few games that I have seen he has been decidedly lacklustre. Unfortunately some fans will always take the players side and question MJ's approach as opposed to the player in question. NO player is bigger than the club and the manager is the one in control of the players. One point that has been mentioned is the possible lack of service he ( and the other strikers ) have had. But you could counter this with the missed chances by the strikers and  them not finding the spaces to exploit.

I am more disappointed with the floodlights going, to be honest. We will obviously replace them with cheap as chips ten-foot floodlights that will make the stadium even worse - along with the open corners, the broken side panels, the faded seats, the third world toilets and general scruffiness.

We need some positive news soon - interest is fading fast on all fronts again, and another bottom third finish will put some people off for good.

My source from within the club has said that it looks like all fans will be issued with wind up torches apart from those that sit in the executive seats who will get battery operated ones.

However, he was given one fantastic opportunity to score... in which he headed the ball straight at their keeper.

He was/is an average striker at this level, not bad, but not great! We certainly need somebody new 'up top' so let's see who we get in over the summer before we decide whether this is good or bad news...

Not too bothered about Thomas tbh.

Good finisher? Not particularly

Good in the air? Not really

Pace that scares defenders? Nope

Beats defenders in a one on one? No

Strong on the ball? No

Fox in the box? Not really

Lays on plenty of assists? Not really

Great movement off the ball? Again, not really

Works his behind off? Definitely.. until the past month or so when he seemed like he'd given up

Time for someone else who's chomping at the bit to have a go until the end of the season and a chance for MJ to find someone who can tick more boxes than he has. Some say about his goals keeping us up.. but if KD, CV or AR had as many starts in his position this season, I don't believe they'd have scored any less..

Not good news either that other players might have been involved in issues with Jolley.  Rarely is any dispute all one-sided.  Our results/tactics have gone south, which have probably been a catalyst for any player dispute.

No wonder JT was too frit to talk tactics post match! The leaden way we started the game with little movement and self parody sideways passing looked like a message as subtle as pissing your name in the snow. MJ's reference to 'ruthless' , however, was a bit unfortunate so soon after the game.

Then again they might not. Where has that been reported?

It could be the other way round for all you know.

Personally I think it's because Wes wanted to go to Steel's and the other players voted for Papa's. Meanwhile Fenty was round the Notts ('if it's good enough for that c*** Swin, it's good enough for me')

Maybe other managers in the English game for long than MJ knew more about him... he didn't have a club at the start of the season remember...

Anyway, put Vernam up front FFS! he's 22, and wants to play, and in fact, he's very very good.

Give him as many starts as Thomas has had, and he will get 15+ next season.

Since the turn of the year, Thomas has started all 15 games, and scored 4, 1 being a penalty.... This being a problem for me, as when he isn't scoring, he doesn't offer much else for the team...

Vernam has started just 2 games, both on the wing, and personally feel if he goes upfront, he will score

Start Vernam ahead of Dennis, as Vernam is here next season, we have nothing to play for, so why play someone who isn't going to be our player after the season

I would guess the thought crossed the manager’s mind a bit ago. The problem is that Vernam flits in and out of games but disappears after a while. He certainly is good on the ball and frightens defences with his pace but then he vanishes, is he knackered? Frustrating player with talent but we need 90 minutes from him and how often has he even given us half of that? He doesn’t look a natural goalscorer either, one of those destined to be a batterer of the woodwork and not the net. Much as I like him as a player I can’t see how he will produce the goods.

To be honest, that's exactly what Thomas does! if he isn't scoring, which he does some to be a natural at, then he's not doing much else.

There is no fitness, like match fitness, and he won't get that whilst not playing!

Spot on comparison in my opinion.

Hasn't looked interested for a while and as others have pointed out, unless he's scoring he doesn't offer much else.  I think there's definitely a fatigue factor involved, he does look shattered and to an extent that's understandable.  He didn't have a proper pre-season and then was more or less straight in the mix of it after signing with very little respite since.  That was always going to result in a drop off at some point.  Equally so and more puzzling is that he looks less effective in a two-man strike force, despite looking like he was always in need of a partner when he played up front on his own.  I always felt he looked like a striker who would benefit from playing off someone but he was always the focal point here.

With regards what's gone on, who knows.  It doesn't really matter as he won't play again and ignoring the fact he's out of contract and apparently wants to move back down south, we need better.  He's a decent striker at this level and maybe with an absolute beast of a focal point alongside him he could have done more, but we still need better.  We've nothing to play for now other than pride and trialing things out for next season, this is a perfect opportunity to see how other options pan out up top.  Dennis has come here on loan with very limited opportunity to stake a real claim.  Fair enough he hasn't impressed a great deal when he has had a chance but I want to see him over a decent run of games and as the main striker, not as a support act.  Pair him with Rose and have Vernam in behind to take over the Embleton role as creator in chief.  Unfortunately I think Jolley may go for Cardwell to try and replicate the 'target man' role that Thomas didn't really do.

Totally agree . What have we got to lose by giving rose and vernam the rest of the season up front ?
I can’t see Dennis being here really so just keep him on the bench

Vernam is the most underated player at the club and needs to start games more, I doubt whether he is fully match fit ATM and seems to me as a player who will developed later in his career. He'd probably be on eight goals now if at Lincoln

Based on nothing other than my own opinion, I think Jolley will have loaned Dennis with a view to signing him on a permanent deal next season.

Notts County will want/need to get him off their wage bill and he wouldn't have been without suitors, even the money bags clubs in the Conference will have had interest in a guy with less than a 6-month blot on an otherwise pretty decent score card.  Can't imagine they will have loaned him to us, over other clubs, without some sort of agreement in place.

Not sure what Dennis's stats are like but maybe he's had one wonder season and is going to dine out on it  for the rest of his career?

He’s had 2 for my money. One for Macclesfield in the Conference and one in a very poor Chesterfield side in the League last season. Back to back seasons suggests he’s quite good to me.

To me Dennis needs an old fashioned target man to feed off. Then he scores goals. If like Town you don't  set up that way he is ineffective

There was a season in League 1 in the middle (where he got 8 ) but I agree, 2 goal laden seasons out of 4 isn't too bad going

(and I assume he scored goals at Conference North level before this)

Vernam is the most underated player at the club and needs to start games more, I doubt whether he is fully match fit ATM and seems to me as a player who will developed later in his career. He'd probably be on eight goals now if at Lincoln

Unfortunately i think there are off the pitch things with him , an interview with Jolley a couple of weeks ago mentioned that .."they like Charles the player"..."like with all players there is a path to the first team " ....just made me think its NOT a question of ability that is keeping him out.
As he is on the bench and getting sub appearances i figure it isn't disciplinary or major issues but probably more personal fitness targets etc.

15/16 - 22 from 38 games in a mid-table Conference side
16/17 - 8 from 35 in a relegated League One side
17/18 - 19 from 43 in a relegated League Two side.

In all 3 of those seasons he was in a poor side that no doubt will have created very little chances for him plus as the only real goal threat, will have faced defenders who doubled and trebled up on him.

The record at League One isn't great, not terrible either, but we're miles away from League One and we only have to look at how someone like Bogle absolutely tore this league a new anus but has taken an age to adjust to stepping up a level.

The lad is a goalscorer, it's that simple. It's up to us if we create chances for him.   I'm not concerned about his record at Notts County as they were comfortably the worst side I've seen since returning to the league.  I don't think many players would have looked good in that side .

From what I've seen of him he doesn't look anywhere near someone who can hit double figures in a season, nevermind 20+.  But we need to see him over  a consistent run of games and I'm actually looking forward to seeing how he works with someone other than Thomas.  If' he's up there with Rose and Vernam I think the extra pace and movement will create the space he needs.

He is without doubt very talented, better than most we have seen on the ball in recent years. But why is he here? A player with his natural ability who was at a Championship club and then came “home” to L2 at the age of 20 doesn’t make much sense to me. He is fantastic at running at defenders but runs out of steam after a short time. I agree with you Moosey, there has to be more to this than we know or this lad would be a first team fixture even at 22.

Obvs never going to happen but a front 3 of A.Rose Dennis Vernam could do some real damage

Anything 'official' been released regarding Wexit??

I imagine we'll only start having Dennis lead the line for the rest of the season if theres genuine interest in him staying next season, from both parties.

Given time and a run of games to boost confidence, those three could be a potent force and a real threat at this level. The big question is whether MJ can find the right blend in midfield and out wide next season to provide them with the ammo..

Obviously a striker's goal tally at previous clubs is a good indication of his abilities but I'm sure I won't be the first fan to point out that Connell and Podge's goalscoring records prior to joining us were mediocre at best.

Let's face facts. A proven goalscorer at any level is like gold dust, so to get him on board is going to cost us money - either in transfer fees, or in wages, and possibly both. Then there's the issue of getting said player to continue that goalscoring form with us.

There are two routes MJ can take - either look at the blueprint of Connell and Podge and find a player that has a goalscoring ability but who isn't being deployed in the right role at their current club, or look for someone who knows how to find the back of the net in the league below, like Bogle and Hearn.

Either way, whoever we bring in, I think we need MJ and his staff to coach these players and get the best out of them. I'm a little concerned about Cardwell as he's been here nearly two years now and only has one league goal to his name. I appreciate he's young and hasn't ever been given a solid run in the team, but it has to be flagged.

Rose, we're told, has bags of potential, and if he comes recommended by Woods then that's good enough for me. But, again, he's only scored one goal. Vernam... well, I'm not convinced he's an out-and-out striker so I won't judge him on goals. But as the likes of Mick Boulding showed, he revelled in a striker role when Lennie initially signed him to do a job on the left. Groves played him through the middle with an intelligent striker in Allen and he thrived there.

I think we need a Gary Jones type striker in the summer - not necessarily to lump the ball too, but someone who has that football intelligence to bring others into play. They don't need to be Rhead-esque. Obviously they'll require some size and strength but I reckon that'll be the key to getting out the best of the young strike talent that we already possess.

We don't know who that "mark" signing was that Jolly just missed out on do we? My suspicion was that it was a striker and one known for being able to lead the line and  bring others into the game.

We all believed, rightly, that Thomas was signed as a stopgap,  but he became a regular by default because a) he scored a few goals and b) there was no-one else. Someone with more clubs than a grand slam bridge hand was never going to be the answer to our prayers.

However now that MJ knows the league, his budget and the calibre of players who might be persuaded to come to BP, he may do better this summer than last. At least we hope so.

After all, when he shows prospective signings round he can point at the new floodlights as symbols of the club's investment in a bright  future. ;)

He lives just outside of Hull and wants to come home for family reasons...rumour, and I emphasise rumour, has it that he'd already agreed to go on loan to Coventry before we approached him, he agreed to honour that loan deal but didn't rule a possible permanent move to  GY in the summer....and that rumour has come from Dean Windass's best mate...and no that mate's not a whiskey bottle!!

* hopes Cardwell rams those words down my throat as he notches 20 goals next season.

Got to agree with this, where are the goals coming from?  It'll take some offer to get people through the turnstiles in the coming weeks; limping over the line at the seaons end again, no strikers at the club in or anywhere near double figures, 3 players holding joint top scorer status with 4 (FOUR!) goals apiece, one of whom isn't even with us anymore.
Need to drastically change this clubs outlook, NOT desperately clinging on to our league status in May should no longer be seen as some sort of measure of success.

Wait for the merry-go-round. “Well if we created chances the strikers would get goals” or words to that effect. ;)

It is chicken and egg though isn’t it? I don’t dispute we need a proper signing who can put the ball in the onion bag as Wally Brand the Ball Of Fire used to do in the Rover.  But we do have a proven goalscorer on loan and I bet even he would struggle to make something of the crap approach play and failure to deliver decent passes into the box.

Yes, ' love and marriage, horse and.......' .  I left after 70 mins on Saturday following another terrible display of passing and movement. Whoever is on the pitch, our inability to retain the ball in the final third is woeful.

It doesn't  matter what system you play if you haven't  got the players who can get down the line and pull the ball away from goal for the strikers to run on to then you WILL struggle to score. If a professional footballer  can't adjust to different systems then why is he in the game ?

I would guess the thought crossed the manager’s mind a bit ago. The problem is that Vernam flits in and out of games but disappears after a while. He certainly is good on the ball and frightens defences with his pace but then he vanishes, is he knackered? Frustrating player with talent but we need 90 minutes from him and how often has he even given us half of that? He doesn’t look a natural goalscorer either, one of those destined to be a batterer of the woodwork and not the net. Much as I like him as a player I can’t see how he will produce the goods.

He's only 22 the more game time he has the more fitness he'll get and the better he'll become.

It's not like he'll be replacing a 20+ goal scorer is it. Give him the time up top so he can improve his game and I believe he'll develop into may be a Championship standard attacker.

Given time I believe he'll be better than Thomas. His ability on the ball will help bring others into the game which I think will suit the way Jolley wants to play the game.

Just touching back onto David Meyler.

If we are able to sign him it should be a real coup for league 2. He used to be a regular in the championship and premiership for Hull and at 29/30 he should still have plenty in the tank, he's had a rotten time lately at Reading and Coventry, it just quite hasn't happened for him this season, I believe his wife had a miscarriage. He might feel more at home here as it is closer to his home! And his experience would certainly help Harry Clifton and Jake Hessentahler who is still young let's not forget.

Young players have to be the answer. It's unlikely we are just going to be handed an experienced 20 goal a season striker (e.g. Amond, yes it happens but not often). But everyone is unknown when they start. I'd be scouring the lower leagues for a Bogle. I'd definitely be playing Akheem Rose for the rest of the season.

I still regret Dembele leaving. Had he stayed we'd definitely have challenged this year IMHO.

Did it within minutes of coming on. Club has to recognise his weakness in this respect and guide his conditioning accordingly. As said before, it's similar to Pitman. Dashing from the bench on a cold day followed by a ' chase that young un' through ball is no way to build match fitness. He had a year out and needs better preparation but it's GTFC where mistakes are repeated ad nauseam.

If Thomas doesn't play tomorrow and we serve up the same shite there will be more than the players having an altercation with Jolly. If Jolly has got any football savvy he has got to serve up something to appease the fans. He must be the only person in the town not to see that whatever his ideas were they have failed.
