I would have liked to have seen Vernam and Rose given a go as a partnership. That said I also thought if Dennis didn't start today, we could write him off as a potential summer target.

Yeah I would, they definitely looked worth a start as a pair last week.

Been dire this. Cannot fathom at all why Jolley is persisting picking players who in all likelihood aren't going to be here next season. Vernam and Rose should be starting every game now.

I really fear for us next season with the budget that MJ will have to play with knowing Mr Fenty   :-/

Not too disheartened with that first half even though we’ve fallen behind & were a bit unlucky with their goal

Just need to come out second half with a bit of desire and we could easily get back In to this

Don't deserve to be behind but we don't deserve to be winning either. Ring is having an absolute shocker. Vernams just been called into the changing room so waiting for a swap at start of 2nd half.

I never thought I would agree with the above statement but something is going drastically wrong again-for me it's the system that Jolly is trying to make work-well it's not working and never has for the majority of the season. Time to try something different-either change the players or change the system PLEASE.. It's all IFS and very big IFS at the moment.

By my reckoning that's the 16th time in the league this season that we've failed to score. That's clearly not good enough.

Like someone said we have been pretty poor since Xmas apart from 3-4 games that we won/drew in a row, this is since we went to the formation 3-5-2 and if I remember right didn’t we play 3-5-2 at start of season when we had that poor start?

Seems tour form was way better when we played 4-4-2 upto we had that great run into Xmas and had us dare dreaming of making the play offs..

I see the problem here

Pretty sure we haven't played 4-4-2 at all....that run before Xmas was 4-5-1.... Thomas was definitely on his own up top.

Not looking good for next season.

Season ticket sales will be awfully slow with no doubt an increase in price.

I might be wrong but isn't playing football all about scoring goals!

Our opponents have more clean sheets than the Holiday Inn!

If you look at our stats, they are dreadful, especially offensively. We don't have one midfielder who has an impressive set of goals and/or assists, our strikers are way below par if you take Thomas out. We just look substandard in all aspects.
I like Jolley a lot and I have faith in him, but he has got a lot of work to do to build a squad that will compete for the play offs next season. No exaggeration, aside from our keeper, there aren't really any others that you'd be desparate to keep. Defence, midfield and up front requiring massive upgrades for me. The recent form and dearth of goals and threat is a huge disappointment for me and I can't see how we might sustain any sort of spectator intetest in the remaining games this season. Just very poor.

Not sure what to make of it really. We have had the odd time when it looked like it might be coming together, but I have said many times that we hardly get into the box as I sit expectantly in the Pontoon when we are at home, and on the sofa when we are away.

We need an injection of money for the playing budget, or we are always likely to be well short. We have gone through hundreds of players without ever getting the best 11 together at the same time, and we actually seem to be going backwards again despite having a settled squad with many of them signed up for next season and beyond.

Let us hope that 3 or 4 QUALITY players can help it all come together next season.

I remember Cardwell playing a lot round Christmas upfront with Thomas but anyway..

451 / 442 whatever it was it worked better than this bloody 352 we’re playing,

On a good day we make it look really good, when the wingbacks appearing in the box and RH when his playing CB but that’s like 1 in every 3-4 games and it’s not good enough it isn’t working with the players we’ve got,

Hopefully MJ has some players on the shortlist that can make it work next season if we are sticking by it

We must need 6 - 8 players of better quality than we have. We'll need to invest some money and move some on, and not show sentiment about that.

Couldn’t agree more, the question being will there be sufficient money to do what needs to be done.

More likely, another lump will be drawn off the loan and we’ll spend most of another season looking down not up. Sorry if that sounds negative but, yet again, we’re doomed to another bottom half finish.
Posted by: denni266, March 30, 2019, 7:35pm; Reply: 61
All i can see is that we need about 8 better team not squad players, than we have this season. And to stop this stupid system he keeps trying to play.. we dont have proper wingbacks in the squad so why keep trying it.  I dont think fenty will keep taking big chunks out of the club as the less he is owed the more chance someone will come in and take his toy away
Posted by: chaos33, March 30, 2019, 7:56pm; Reply: 62
The favoured system isn't creating chances for the players we have. We'll need to change players, system or both. To fail to score in almost half he games this season tells it's own story.
Posted by: Tommy, March 30, 2019, 8:16pm; Reply: 63
The positive aspect of having this poor run as the season draws to a close, is that it might show MJ where he needs to be ruthless in the summers squad-building. We've had a few good runs during the season and if we ended the season in another one, it would be easy to stick with the majority of the squad and add a few. Going through yet another poor run where we cant score goals might show up where we need better.
Posted by: chaos33, March 30, 2019, 8:52pm; Reply: 64
Agree Tommy. What's doubly sad is that these players are playing under no real pressure and they're producing almost nothing, and have done for the last 6 weeks or so. Not as if it's a one off. Yes we've had a few good, short runs where we've looked competitive and threatening, but, for the most part we look like team short of half a dozen good players, and, although fairly well organised and competent even, almost entirely without threat.
Posted by: Mrs Doyle, March 31, 2019, 7:52am; Reply: 65
I concede  M.J. and his team are much more skilled and have the qualifications none of us do but to play a system of deliberately sitting deep puts a hell of a strain on your defence and the lone wolf up front.

To be competent with this system you MUST have wing backs with pace, and forwards quick enough to join in ideally the lone wolf up front must be big, strong because to hoof a ball up to him like we do needs this.

Yes he is a target man but that system without pace leave the lone wolf stranded and easy meat for opposing defenders.

It must be great being the opposing defenders facing us they must feel like it's a friendly.

I can't see it as a positive. The Roses, Whitmores and Vernams are having to showcase their talents in a losing team with an unsuitable formation and team mates that aren't going to be here next season. Ring's been given a thankless task that he's not up to and the poor run isn't going to sell season tickets or raise expectations for the floating fan, because marquee signings in the summer that show a statement of intent may be the only thing that could break the current state of malaise. So, even if it shows MJ where the deficiencies are, where's the money going to come from to buy better replacements? I think it's a very thin shred of a silver lining you're hanging onto Tommy, but it's the best hope we've got unfortunately..

Completely agree BD but in reference to Tommy's post, he's saying he knows where are deficiencies are, well I'm sorry to say but he knew that last year and did knack all to address it so why do we think he will in this summer's transfer window??..
Starting to wonder if MJs ambitions outweigh his abilities and let's not hide the fact that he and limbrick are actually serial losers...
Have to say if we start poorly next season and go on frequent so called bad runs you have to ask yourself, is he really all that??
Posted by: KingstonMariner, March 31, 2019, 4:15pm; Reply: 68
The problem could be budget, not a lack of knowledge or willingness to deal with squad deficiencies. Doesn't explain the system though.

If at the end of last season we had to mark Jolly he would have most likely scored 8/10- at the present time it would most likely be 5 or 6 and falling..  Get back up to 8/10 Please before the season ends.
