Town starting XI: McKeown, Hendrie, Öhman, Davis, Whitmore, Ring, Hessenthaler, M. Rose, Embleton, Cardwell, Thomas.

Subs: Hall-Johnson, Welsh, Woolford, Vernam, A. Rose, Pringle, Russell.

looks like 3-5-2 or 5-3-2

Very brave to try a new formation on a day like to day,

Better personal for it now though than the start of season.

Be interesting to see how we do. I think once Ring gets up to match fitness he'll be a great addition to the side - can see bags of energy from him.

Just hope we beat these muppets today.

No Clifton, hope he isn’t out injured for long. Öhman In is good, thought he was very powerful last week so will hopefully stick it to the Imps. UTM!!! Please bring back three points.

Apart from the first 10 minutes when we conceded we've been more then equal if not better to Lincoln just those final balls into the box not going our way.

Mike Dean hasn't been too bad, I thoght Hess's booking was a bit soft as he clearly got the ball and not the player who throgh himself to the ground.

Midfield needs restructuring or given new instruction as they're a bit all over at the moment.

We clearly need to get the ball the Embleton more and get Thomas and Cardwell into the game more.

Yeah, especially considering some of the soft reds we have had this season. We have had players assaulted more than once and other teams seem to get away with it. Seems ok to elbow our players in the face or wrestle them to the ground by the neck.  :-/
Posted by: Gaffer58, January 19, 2019, 2:05pm; Reply: 64
This could be their plan, give an opposing defender a couple of pokes, e.g.  elbows, defender then gives one back later on, Akinde goes down like he's shot and ref gives penalty, it's worked previously.

The argument has been they weren't "intentional" it was a high elbow rather then leading with or swinging their elbow if that makes sense.

End of the day its come from us putting ourselves under pressure again which weve done too much lately, just forget the crystal palace match, we've had three poor league games, need to really take charge in the next game, be on the attack and create more chances, we'll just keep losing 1-0 and having men sent off otherwise
Posted by: ginnywings, January 19, 2019, 3:04pm; Reply: 110
Didn't expect us to score there to be honest. We are not creating much against lesser teams, so it was always a big ask to go there and threaten their goal much. Team is almost there, but we need more threat and guile.

Was a red for me. Had it been the other way round, we would say it was a red, no question.

At what point did that Lincoln player have possession of the ball? It may have been a heavy challenge but James clearly blocks the ball, there’s no way his momentum could avoid clattering into the Lincoln player.

Didn’t jump in two footed, didn’t look high, only looked like he had eyes for the ball.

I dunno. I’m a Grimsby fan and I’m biased but really that looked like a goal-saving challenge.

Had the Lincoln player got there first and nicked the ball past McKeown, and then got floored, then yes, red all day long.

But that Lincoln player did not get there first. McKeown’s put in one hell of a goal-saving challenge and got sent off for it.

Not even a foul, Trouble is game after game were sitting back till the other team score then start to pressure a bit. For the last 20 mins of 1st half we pushed forwaed and closed their defenders and midfield down and they hardly had a touch, they really did then resort to hoofball which we dealt with easily, but too late as they were not going to take any risks once they were leading. >:  What was the point of 532 against a team playing with one noi at all quick player up top.
Posted by: MuddyWaters, January 19, 2019, 3:15pm; Reply: 116
Afraid that we looked ok in our half but poor in theirs. Personal opinion, but I would start Vernam ahead of Cardwell every day.
Posted by: hheh2, January 19, 2019, 3:16pm; Reply: 117
I think we showed a decent account of ourselves unlucky not to have been 1-1 at half time.

Considering lots of teams have been bossed by them this season.

We just need to engage our attacking brains again instead of focusing on defence which I think is more than good enough for mid table.

Öhman/Davis partnership looks promising.
Posted by: Chrisblor, January 19, 2019, 3:19pm; Reply: 118
Showed them far too much respect by playing Cardwell and lumping it up to him with no success all match. Should have started with Vernam and tried to get at them on the deck since that's where all our success in November and early December came from. We now look like a team who doesn't have any idea where the goal is again.

The majority of teams do it now, but the difference is the other teams who do it often have 1-2 players on the edge of the box to try and stop any shots from edge of area and help clear any half clearances but it seems we insist on having every man between the goal line and penalty spot so that means if the ball should fall on the edge of the box the opposition player has plenty of time, like yesterday Toffolo even had time to take a touch before shooting whilst we was slow and reluctant to get out
