Has anyone done the maths?

How much is that so far? How does it break down?

Posted by: Cloudy, December 2, 2018, 6:43pm; Reply: 1
Rob detailed it on another thread, although not sure he included the £12500 for the tv today.

Whatever we get it will not have been budgeted for! The budget will have been worked out on a first round exit so this is our ‘football fortune’.

IF we can get a live TV game in round three I think that alone is £250,000

We’ve won £90k in prize money so far. Not massive money in the grand scheme of things but in player terms thats a fairly decent wage for a player at our level. Although I am led to believe that club infrastructure is the priority with any prize money this season and Mr Day’s comments on Look North on Friday confirmed this.

The good thing is it's an extra incentive to make players join. It puts the club in the shop window more. Hopefully, there's a Swedish striker or two watching the draw tomorrow and thinking beyond our current league position.

So, would be be better drawing the lowest ranked team at home and having a decent chance of a 4th round game ?

If we get drawn against a top club the gate money would be good and maybe on telly so more money from that,

BUT

A good chance that we would lose,

So better to be drawn against a team we can win so another £134,000 into the kitty,

Then have a great day out against a top club in the next round.

I expect that's more like 2 players wages for us. Not many clubs have players on nearly £2k a week at this level.

The money is nice, but the home gates have been quite low the last couple of weeks, so there's a good chance we're below budget and this is just filling the gap. A big team away would fix that, but there's only a small chance of that happening.

IF the board have set the budget on anything above 3600-3800 gates they want shooting!

We are averaging 4500 so that has to be well over the budgetted figure

Exactly my thoughts.  Man Utd away is the big money game.  You go there and you're guaranteed a million, minimum.  Many a club have sorted their finances for a few years based on going there in the cup.  Guaranteed main slot on TV too.

The only other teams from the 92 that I've not seen Town play are Everton, Cardiff and Southampton (testimonial only) so selfishly any of those would be a decent second option but I'd rather the club get the 'big' draw.

We averaged 4658 last season and made a small loss. I guess that was a small profit before paying back the loans. So averaging just over 4014 this season, not 4500 as you say is quite a big drop.

I don't understand how you can on one hand complain that the budget is too low, but on the other expect the board to budget on 3600 gates.

I think that`s the point why would the board budget for gates in excess of 4000 what are they basing their numbers on? Realistically we dodged a bullet staying up and added little hairs on the back of the neck signings to suggest we would do any better than mid table and I personally expected a drop. The slow start has compounded that though with recent home results and a massive improvement across the board I really hope we see a pick up in numbers. We have Notts and Mansfield coming up so that should see a couple of 5k+ gates and hopefully a huge cup draw the Club can show some nous and get extra bodies in for a voucher etc?

We get a decent draw at home, then that's worth (I would say) an extra £100-150k approx due to the fact that there'd be more bums on seats at each home game due to ticketing. Then there's merchandising etc. This is where the club would need to pull their finger out and make sure things are done to the best they can.

Perhaps if fans were treated like an assett rather than an inconvenience gates would be a bit higher 🤔

We can all sense things starting to look up, so this is where the club should be trying to build on the feel-good factor that’s slowly creeping back in. We’ve three very winnable matches coming up before Christmas, let’s build some momentum and get those seats filled, hammer the half-season tickets - “the perfect Xmas gift”.

We’ve a model supposedly built on “football fortune”, let’s make sure we’re taking advantage of it. Even if we pull some shite like Oldham at home out of the hat, the club need to be thinking ahead of the curve with this at the moment.

I guess because other than the first 5 non league years, we've been averaging around 4500 at this level. Even when we were shockingly bad, and there have sadly been a few of those seasons.

I'd also argue that John Welsh, Jake Hessenthaler, Ben Pringle and West Thomas were all very good signings. I don't think you can expect better than players of that pedigree at this level.

The board WILL have budgetted based on a conservative average attendance. That is the way they have always done it. No way will they have set it on 4500!

My only comment regarding the level of budget is that not enough is ever done to increase income, doing the same things they have always done- sitting back and hoping/expecting.

The lack of profits except when we sold a player for £1 million begs to differ. You can keep arguing the point based on your ideology, but until you show some evidence, it just seems like belligerent criticism for the sake of criticism.

Completely agree that not enough is done to try and increase the income. We've made some progress this season, but more could be done.

Ask John! This is NOT my idealogy it is the way the club have operated for years

The board rightly sets a budget based upon a conservative average attendance. If we were to base the budget on £4500-5k and we dont have a great season, that means a significant loss, and more for John to subsidise/underwrite.
They therefore base it conservatively and if we do better  we can release funds in Jan or, in the past, late season loans.

I totally agree ref the signings being good quality but none are hairs on the back of the neck signings are they? Fenty and the board get plenty of grief BUT they have done an excellent job in terms of managing the budget so it just suprises me they don`t have a lower figure as the break even? Anyway hopefully this little upsurge will continue and we can moan about something like you can`t get parked or all the pies had been eaten by glory hunting twits who only crawled out the woodwork when we won 20 on the bounce.UTM

When we played in that wonderful National League,

We played at a lot of clubs who had the odd large lamppost with big bulbs shining down onto the pitch.

They were very good so there is no need for massive floodlights these days,

BUT

If we are moving soon its seems a waste of money replacing them,

Can we just lower them for a few years before our expected move.?

.....or we could buy ones that could be moved to the new ground. A new set ,like the ones at Bury, would fit that criteria.

I would prefer the floodlights used at Trent bridge. I'm sure one of the reasons we don't get more televised matches is the poor lighting, either that or they don't like us...lol.

Who from this league is regularly getting picked for televised matches? I didn't think hardly anybody is on, but it's not like I care or look out for them.

I thought with floodlights, the trend is to mount them along the roof of the stands. If that's the case, then surely they would be able to go to a new ground anyway.

I work in the industry and have been vaguely involved in some lighting designs for non-league clubs who are changing their lighting to LED.

I know that there are grants available but I am unsure if that extends to the EFL.

If we go down the route of changing the floodlights, we need to ensure as much as possible can be taken to a new ground.

If its the fittings that need replacing ( I think John said something like that )

My thoughts were just fit the new fittings and bulbs a lot lower down on the towers,

That might be the cheapest option and they could hopefully be moved to the new ground.

Unless its the towers that need knocking down.

You need the height to get the spread. If it is lower you probably need more lights.  League 1 and League 2 require an average of 500 lux across the pitch with a minimum level of 300 whilst The Championship requires 800 lux with a minimum level of 500.  In The Championship, the centre circle MUST be 750 lux.

looks like we'll need the 800 Lux package then, considering how the board think we will be challenging for the Championship pretty soon.
