#GTFC XI: McKeown, Hendrie, Davis, Whitmore, Fox, Pringle, Hessenthaler, Clifton, Embleton, Thomas, Vernam.

Subs: Russell, Welsh, M. Rose, Cook, Woolford, Cardwell, A. Rose.

Macca is captain tonight.

The team I expected although I feel sorry for Mitch Rose having to miss out again on a starting place, thought he was solid before his injury but Hess hasn’t done anything wrong since he came in.

Six of the starting eleven are aged 24 or under. Three more on the bench too.

We might not be a great side at this moment in time, and we’re certainly inconsistent, but at least it feels like we’re building towards something. I never felt that during the reigns of Bignot and Slade.

Tells a tale. We haven't got any spare. One more injury and we will be in trouble.
I thought he might manage Pringle's fitness by swapping him, but glad he's fit enough to continue as he's a good player in form.

Vernam should have buried that. Instead he scuffs his unmarked shot from 8 yards out to an offside Thomas. Massive chance missed.

and the  good news just continues.yeovil 2 down, that's only 1 win in 11 for them. Cheltenham (Clements scores for them) and Cambridge are also losing as are Chesterfield. That's at home to the mighty Bromley ( no snigggering please  8))

Ps those Newport goals means that podge is already into double figures for the season whilst Matt has scored an unbelievable 11 and we are still in november

On first viewing, I thought Thomas's disallowed goal was tight for offside and for his goal, that sounds like it should have been disallowed, there didn't seem to be a "need" to handball it, looked easy to nod in. Could be wrong.

Clifton's header is not a good header, it is an incredible header. Looked a full 15 yards out, leaning back and stuck it in off the far post. Mint.

Town definitely the better side in the last 25 minutes of that half. Macca made 2 decentish saves but you'd expect him to save both. If the Tranmere player had managed to lob him with that pop shot, it would have been an amazing goal.

Two poor individual errors there. Pringle lost the ball after dallying with it in the middle of Tranmere's half. Hendrie for some reason let his man cut inside. Then their lad has hammered a rocket into the top corner. So so preventable.

Great result and excellent performance. Hilarious mistake from the officials for our 2nd, but we looked a threat all night against a decent Tranmere.

Quietly putting together a bit of home form and look pretty decent. Can’t help but think out unorthadox preseason led to our slow start.

Well that was absolutely spectacular. The two Tranmere goals aside we basically dominated the entire game. Amazingly we could have had even more than 5. Let's hope we can keep finding the net with this kind of regularity - might start troubling the top end of the table if so!

I couldn't make it tonight, so i am gutted and thrilled in equal measure. After years of sticking at it through all the dross, i have missed two games this season, and we have won both, scoring 8 goals. The other being the cup win against MK Dongs. I've sat through periods where we didn't score eight goals in a dozen games at various stages over the seasons. Effing buzzing that we have now seemed to click. It's been a long wait.

Absolutely phenomenal result.. can't remember the last time we had a genuine goal-fest. Fighting back to get a great result on Saturday and now this must be doing the confidence of the players wonders.

What a great game and result. That second half must be our best half of the season. Even their goal came from us trying to be positive and move the ball about. Great to see Embleton, Vernam, Pringle and Clifton all looking to get on the ball and in the box and make things happen. Thought Hess did his job well too.

I desperately wanted him to come good and genuinely had every faith he would start to get us results. Feel vindicated now in defending him earlier in the season. I hope this is just the start of what he can bring to the club!

Excluding the tin pot game against Newcastle kids (which was basically a reserve game) that’s four straight home wins and five wins in six - the other game being a respectable 0-0 against Exeter.

That has to be the best home form we’ve had over six games since returning to the league and probably even quite far back into our non-league days.

Great win for Town versus a strong Tranmere team and once again a good result by a team sitting in contention.

I could not go or watch the £10 show but am delighted all the same. As well as scoring 5 .... yes  5!!! Big thing for me .... coming from behind again, shows real character. Three Harry's getting their first goals in the last few days and 7 different goal scorers in two games.

Like I say gutted I could not go but delighted with the result.

Well done MJ and the lads UTM!!!

Absolutely superb,  :) Tranmere are no mugs but we looked like the team chasing promotion once we took the lead. Superb finish by Clifton and midfield pretty much controlled by us for long spells. Hard to pick man of the match but Clifton/Hessenthaler have to go head to head for that.

Fantastic performance in the 2nd half. Finally found the perfect line up when Embleton moved inside with Clifton and with Hess holding. Embleton is the classiest player I've seen play for town for years and we have a real player on our hands in Clifton.

I'd echo what you say about Embleton. Oozes class.

Nice to see the ref going to celebrate the goal with him. Where's everyone else?

Perhaps even more impressive and surprising is that we're also 4th over 10 games:

Bizarre, someone posted that we were 2nd bottom before the game, that’s an amazing jump

5 points from the first 10 games, then 17 from the next 10. Think that constitutes an improvement in form, and just proves again that it's futile judging a side for the first dozen or so games of the season. Seems a long time ago that people were calling for MJ's head on a platter.

Without factoring in the points we would have taken off others but had our first 10 games been as good as our second 10 games, we would currently be 5th in the table, a point away from 3rd spot!

1.7 points per game is play off form! Seriously good turnaround. Jolley isn't getting ahead of himself. Always worth listening to him post match.always very measured and dispassionate as he was tonight after such a good win

Little mention of Pringle on here, for me he stood out, but great to see the whole of the midfield really gelling. And just having the likes of Embleton and Pringle playing alongside him must bring Clifton on and has shown to be doing this. Really pleased with how the whole team and subs performed last night.

With the lads we have in Hess, Embleton, our Harry, Pringle and Vernam it shouldnt work , , , its all youth and quite lightweight and very inexperienced but its working and its exciting and it goes to show you don't always need an old head in the middle or a mean hard man , , , its footballing brains which these lads have and the talent to match of course

Weird similarities with the England cricket team with no established number 3, someone traditional with a sound defence to dig in and build an innings? No fu8k it, lets go with a team of attacking batsmen to try and break the mould-improvise and challenge the established ways

I thought Pringle looked good on Saturday too against Northampton.. he just always seemed to be in the thick of it, and whilst he doesn't have the pace, he was always making runs and challenges. Think he's got some great potential.

Very true. And there lots more that press the panic button during a bad run. Steady progress I say peppered with nice moments like Akheems/Cardwells first goal. Worth hanging in there for moments like them and last night.

Typical. Missed three League home games within a year and we win all of them.  Maybe I should keep staying away on Tuesdays! (unsure) I've never really been the superstitious type lol.

Grimsby Town 5–2 Tranmere Rovers
Grimsby Town 2–0 Colchester United
Grimsby Town 3–2 Swindon Town (Nov 2017)
