Hope it doesn't change in all honesty......as soon as a goal goes in you will get covered. If you cant watch a game for 45 mins without a drink then you have a drink problem.

What moosey said. It'll be like the world cup footage on steroids. Don't really see the need for it to change. Christ, I like a pint but even I can manage 45 minutes without one.

i am also quite suprised ...no actually...VERY suprised to see that we were mentioned as a club that were thinking of supporting it as well....also FGR one of the clubs pushing for it.....very suprised.

I think allowing safe standing sections should be priority, winds me up that its commonplace in the bundesliga but they wont give it the time of day here, even though the police have now been blamed for hillsborough and there isnt fences round the pitches anymore

I was down in London a couple of seasons ago and went to see Tooting & Mitcham v Guernsey. We were allowed to take our pints in the ground but mine was knocked out of my hand by a wayward shot from Serge Makofo!!  ;)

I get what you are saying about terracing.  But it does seem daft to me that on the odd corporate occasion in a box someone can not have a drink facing the pitch. But if they nip to either bar. 20 ft away in the same building they can drink to their hearts content.

The other point about beer on the terraces is that it wouldn’t be too long before an opposition player would be wearing a pint.
So for that reason ‘ I’m out’

We saw plenty of people acting up knowing they were being filmed, having been on the urine in the sun all day, chucking drinks after going 4 up against Panama. Easily done in a pub where you can turn round and get another drink in seconds, are fans going to queue back up for 10 mins at the other end of the stand in February to then chuck a drink over someone they have to sit next to for the rest of the match.

Talking of which.....Does any of the (much) older fraternity on here remember back in the 1960s, whenever Hewitt's put their prices up there was inevitably a window put in on their premises by a bloke on a bike? As far as I can remember the culprit was never cuiaght, which begs the question of the Gy police at the time not being the brightest bunch, as it ALWAYS happened. All they had to do was have someone in the vicinity of the brewery and wait. Those were the days!

I just really, really cannot get on with the idea that the vast majority of football fans lose any semblance of common sense, and thus require different laws, as soon as they enter the confines of a stadium.

A person can watch a football match, rugby match, American Football match, boxing and a gig all from the exact same seat at Wembley and only on one occasion is there a presumption that the individual requires a specific set of laws and draconian punishments to prevent them from certain behaviours.

It’s not the 80s anymore, things have moved on, we’re just waiting for the law to catch up.

I don't think it'd make a difference either way if you can drink in your seat or not. The main reason why clubs will want the change is because it encourages more people to buy a pint since they don't have to stand at the bar or on a concourse to drink it. It won't stop people binge drinking before a game, those people will do what they want regardless of anything else.

Maybe they can only allow it in certain stands so families and anyone who doesn't want to be around rowdy people throwing beer around after a goal have an option to avoid it. I think that would be fair.

I used to work there in the early 60's so I might have known your dad. I used to ride a bike but always carried a brick in my saddle bag for protection as I had to go past all those women in white turbans outside Birds Eye. I went past 14 times one day and was absolutely terrified that they were going to molest me.

Yeah, it's not a bad set up there really for the level they play at.

Had a few pre-match drinks and a bit of a chinwag with Matt Le Tissiers brother who is bankrolling Guernsey (not sure if he still is). They have to pay the expenses including an overnight hotel stay for 22 people from the visiting team each time they have a home game! Not sure if that's still the case.

T&M won that game 4-1 and unbelieveably Serge scored 2 goals!

Hope it doesn't change. I hate going to cricket matches because of all the alcohol. I don't want my bag and clothes soaked other people's drink. I used to drink, I don't mind others doing so but being drenched in the stuff is too close for comfort.

No, but I did accidentally throw a pint all over somebody at a MLS game I saw when in America. I wasn't even celebrating, just drunk.

You can see that at games in Germany  fans have pints watching games. It doesn't seem to be a problem for them.

If it's £5 a pint fans won't buy that many at that price but Town could earn quite a bit out of it.

I've seen a couple of videos of Town fans on You Tube in the concourse before games where beer goes everywhere whilst a good sing-sing is going on.

Surely the big reason clubs want to visit this is for boxes and corporate hospitality? Currently, you can't even drink in view of the pitch from the confines of a box which is stupid and should be changed.

I can't remember which stadium but one has a hotel with rooms overlooking the pitch...and during matches hotel staff check you aren't drinking booze in view of the pitch. I expect it's pretty easy to get around though.

That will be the Ricoh Arena at Coventry.

Did well to get drunk on American beer. Went to the Metlife to see an American football game, it was eleven dollars a pint (short of a pint as well at 500ml). I had to complete a form at the bar to get a beer as I was 40 and they thought I may have been under 25. Then again, American's are morons.

A bloke I know, in his sixties, was in his hotel bar and asked for a pint. He had to get his passport and show it to prove he was old enough before he was served. This is the same country where anyone over 16 can legally buy a gun with no questions asked!

My mate who was with me was laughing until he had to show ID to get his round in. He's 38! Lunacy.

Re drinking at football, I've been listening on Talksport over the last few days as they've been debating it. A lot of people objected as they felt people would be up and down all game long. Some had concerns people would throw their beer in the air when goals were scored similar to buffoons in the pub during the World Cup.

Personally, I can see both arguments. Football is tribal, it is different to rugby and cricket etc. Anyone who goes, knows. Especially since John Fenty's involvement at the club, drinking several pints before the game has been essential, I often have a pint at half time and a few up Megs afterwards. I'm not convinced I need any more during the 90 minutes. Give it a trial, I don't think you'll see people throwing beer around, why would you throw you're best part of £4 pint all over, annoy the people next to you and then spend 10 minutes queuing up for another one? The rules need relaxing certainly, for example when in Mcmenemy's the curtains to the pitch have to be drawn. That's draconian.

In my 30s I was waiting in a queue at an ice cream van and a little girl said to me, " You're too old to buy ice creams mister. "  :)

My recollection of Hewitt's beer was that it was quite thin and watery, a bit like Young's Ordinary bitter was in London. But can anyone else remember what it was like?
