Big ask to go back to Guiseley and win. I always feel that lower league opposition need to beat their higher division opponents at the first time of asking in the Cup. Hope they do it though.

We beat Cleethorpes Town 5-0 in the FA Cup in 1885. I bet there was a bit of "banter" down Meggies that night. We beat Darlo 8-0 at the Abbey (pre-BP back then) 4 days later in the next round! We were non-league then of course.

You have to hand it to Cleethorpes Town, the progress they have made in such a short time is absolutely
staggering, run by a group of people  with ambition, determination and a view for the future, they really are a credit to the area.
Really  hope they can win their replay, it would be wonderful if Town could meet them in the first round..

I suppose it depends on how much dosh the clubs benefactor has got , but I agree the long term sustainability will be interesting

Seen some cracking games really hope they do well.

Disley is still playing for Cleethorpes Town FC

Danny North and Scott Vernon upfront and Disley in midfield is pretty decent at that level.  Amazing that Danny North is still only 30.  Carrying a few pounds of extra timber but surprised he isn’t playing at a higher level.

For the televised round 1 game both sides get £67K and 45% of the gate receipts so an away tie would suit them better financially ........and so it would us to be honest.

Best chance they've ever had of making the 1st round proper.

Great club put a lot back into the local area in the shape of children's football and school holiday training days , Tommy Watson started it all twenty years ago I believe and the whole set up just keeps getting bigger.

Question is at what level would Cleethorpes become rivals rather than a local curiosity we are all happy to see progress? I remember I used to look out for Boston United results when I was a kid, never did I dream one day we would play alongside then in the same league.

I mean, right now Cleethorpes are just a local side doing well. Long may it continue. I support the Mariners and if the two sides ever met I'd be 100% behind Grimsby, but I also feel free to support Cleethorpes since they are (and will be for many Town fans) technically my home town team.

I was born in Cleethorpes but have never actually lived in Cleethorpes so not sure where I stand.  ::)

I was born in Grimsby (Old Clee) - but my late dad was born in Cleethorpes (right adjacent to Blundell Park - must have been brilliant in the 30's)) - so am starting to feel some affiliation to Cleethorpes Town.

It was so much easier when cleethorpes played in grimsby and grimsby played in cleethorpes. Back then folk from Grimsby knew to follow Cleethorpes and folk from cleethorpes knew to follow grimsby. Now cleethorpes play in cleethorpes which has caused great confusion. God knows what will happen when grimsby move to grimsby. I’m from Grimsby but live in Cleethorpes. I think. Honestly don’t know now.

Cleethorpes still play in Grimsby. Old Clee became part of Grimsby in the late 19th century (Clee with Weelsby got absorbed into the County borough of Grimsby). Etymologically (Old) Clee could never be part of Cleethorpes since the thorpes are subsidiary settlements of Clee.

So Grimbarians can still follow Cleethorpes Town as their hometown club and leave us Meggies to get on with supporting Grimsby Town  ;D

Played well mate i thought, first half could have been ahead, some poor calls by the referee didnt help matters. Think a draw would have been a fair result then the lottery of ET and pens

I was there too. Thought first half Cleethorpes played really well and should have been ahead.

Second half seemed to run out of steam. Penalty decision was fair, I was right next to it and it was stone wall. Shame to see Disley looking so leggy now but Scott Vernon led the line superbly, looked trimmer as well.

I wasnt there but it does seem everytime they get beat or even draw they are hard done by referee decisions?

Is the score of a football match determined by whatever it says in the referee's report? Maybe the guy was so incompetent he got the score wrong.
