I'd say his banking past and that day in particular help towards his calm demeanour.

There is a former poster on this board who worked for a firm that had offices on one of the upper floors of one of the towers. Fortunately he was away from his office on business in Europe in that particular week. His firm lost over 200 junior management and other grades that day.
