Well that didn't take long only four games in, the veteran coach, 62, has left the League Two club having claimed just one point so far.

The club needs putting back into non league really....  ;)

Not seen this anywhere yet .Departed from Chelts.

Wow...that's a risk at this stage. Let's hope they have their eye on Russel Slade to come in and 'build something', they won't be missed by me.

Seems odd to me ? Whilst I haven`t liked Johnson or his antics over the year`s he has been a very good lower league Manager hopefully Cheltenham will vanish back to non league now.

I`m thinking more to this than results and suspect GJ at loggerheads with board over budget or something?

Very possibly. Torn between feelings on Johnson, admire his management skills with a low budget, not always keen on his outward views when things were up against him but maybe that shows his steely and no-nonsense approach which, as you hint at, may have been his downfall.

Seemed almost a job for life for him there

His win percentage at Cheltenham is 37%, a lot higher than Slade who was in the 20s. I think Jolley's must be around 40%?

They sold Eisa late on in the transfer window and never replaced him.Not sure what money they got in but that was a lot of goals missing from the Cheltenham side.Pleased he`s gone in terms of us playing them he usually found a way to beat us and I seem to think he had also had some ill health in recent times?

Didn't we sack Alan Buckley MkII just 2 games into the season a while back.

No Cheltenham in the Fishy Buster this season, so that £50 is still up for grabs.

Yes, not a great move in hindsight(!) but looking back to then there were movements going on in the background regarding Huxford and co moving in with a view to new management and the mess that ensued.
Just as Johnsons situation appears to be, Buckley's culling was not a result-based decision but some kind of board squabble/struggle .

Always came over as arrogant and snidey to me, was in conversation with Hurst regarding Hurst`s future when sniffer did the after match lies, he`s signed a load of crap on two year contracts and those on loan from Bristol City could be recalled by his son as a revenge move maybe.
Having said all that Slade would be the right fit to finish them off hopefully, horrible club

Not sure whether it's Cheltenham being a 'horrible club' or the squad ethos under Johnson. I'm not aware of any shenanigans like we've had with Stevenage and FGR regarding treatment of our fans. Oh, and Barnet (but they made up for Sharkgate by allowing the mariachi band).

I 2nd that they have suffered for far too long.A proper Club and their fan`s have stuck by them.

Would be good to have Wrexham back. Surely it's got to come good for them soon.

I hope so met some of their fan`s before the JPT Final a really knowledgeable bunch and they said if they never got Promotion they hoped we would etc.A fine Club with great tradition and decent hardcore support much like ourselves who have fallen on hard times. We know speaking from experience how difficult a League it is to escape Grimsby,Luton,Lincoln and to a lesser degree Tranmere all struggled to escape not sure how many year`s Wrexham have been down there but too many.

Now Hartlepool on the other hand...............

I’m sorely enjoying how hard Hartlepool are finding Non-League. Makes my day a teeny tiny bit better when they fail to win :D

I know they will be out of our league but couldn't we try to sign the centre half and their new midfield player

Just out of interest Golfer, do you think Pearson or Summerfield would get into the team we have now?

Pearson is up for debate but he could certainly be a squad player in this team. Based on current performances, I don't think Summerfield would get anywhere near the bench.

Summerfield is better than Rose in my opinion and better than Clifton. I think Clifton will develop to be a better player than Summerfield ever was but he's not there yet!

Both would get into MY team, Although Collins can still play a bit this season I feel he has lost the edge. Sommerfield would definitely get in based on last years form-playing slightly more upfield I am sure we would see more balls through the channels. The guys got awareness and spacial ability and I would have him in instead of Clifton who in my opinion hasn't had a good game yet this season. Both players are vocal and in times of need would be urging the players on..

Did you watch the Lincoln match? Clifton was very good. He worked hard throughout and his running was occupying defenders and giving Woolford space to exploit. In the second half, he made two of the best passes of the game and was getting better up until he got booked and taken off. Against MK Dons, he didn't seem to do a lot on the ball, can't really comment about what his running did because I can't see that on a screen. He certainly didn't have a bad game though.

Personally, I'm much happier with what I've seen from Clifton than I saw from Summerfield. I thought he was a headless chicken that tried admirably but had no real quality. Clifton has yet to consistently deliver quality, but has shown glimpses of it and has a lot of time to improve.

And I would try to get The Shop back-that'll get the red x's coming-but that's what I would do to improve this current squad.

im sorry but neither Pearson or Summerfield would get a look in with the team we,ve got. Pearson is a good lad and was a great servant however his time has passed and he's at his level, we have moved beyond his abilities as a footballer.
As for Summers as good as he played last season I think he would be a bench warmer at most,Hess,Clifton,Rose,Woolford all far better players and with faster footballing minds.i wish both players the very best for the future but that future should be nowhere near us unless they win promotion with Wrexham and then I will welcome them to BP with open arms as long as we hammer them.UTFM

Pearson would be on the bench for me and Summerfield would start but only until Whitehouse got fit again.
Posted by: Maringer, August 23, 2018, 7:40pm; Reply: 41
I think Summerfield would be in ahead of Clifton at this point in time. Whether or not he'd be ahead of Rose (if he wasn't suspended), I'm not so sure. Summerfield's all-round game and athleticism was better than Rose for me, but Rose has that knack of getting goals, is a great penalty taker and, of course, there's his long throw as well.

To say Summerfield wouldn't get on the bench is daft. Pearson would be a reasonable squad player.

Summerfield would have been an excellent squad player, especially for long away trips, but Hessenthaler is a class above. Hess, Walsh, Rose, Woolford and Clifton all tire in the second half when we press like the Lincoln game. Summerfields energy and vocal input would be welcome in the final quarter.
