I hate to be negative but is anyone else thinking that this live UK stream is the start of many.. A small part of me thinks they're going to slowly introduce this into the game so anyone can stay at home and watch any team which then will decrease attendances massively throughout the UK... I hope I'm wrong and I do think it's brilliant fans can watch their team (I'd watch it tonight if I could) but is this the start of something

No it wont, not for me

Because there is nothing better than being at the game itself
Posted by: TheRealJohnLewis, August 21, 2018, 11:24am; Reply: 2
As the current format stands, I think it could possibly affect midweek attendances. Watch the game for a tenner or travel 2hrs plus, £40-50 on tickets, food, drink etc. Obviously, the diehards are going to go, no matter what.

and to think JF wanted to ban RH from doing commentary on home games as it affected attendances.

Will locals be able to watch a home midweek game on ifollow rather than attending BP?

Yes, I believe so, all games that don't start or finish between 1445 and 1800 on a Sat will be available.

Yes - I think it could be a slippery slope.  The die hards will always prefer to go but the floating fans will take this easier option.
I'm setting off in about an hour and a halfs time for MK and with £22 ea entry & Petrol and tea before kick off, its going to cost a lot more than that tenner to see it on ifollow for me and the Mrs.
You just can't beat being there if you are able for me.  That said its a godsend for folk who can't make it there and even better for brits abroad.
I guess it depends on how much of the revenue will end up in the clubs coffers (very little i guess)

Are there any figures available for how many ifollow subscribers the club has ?

No issue with it with the longer away trips like anything 2 hrs plus then i like it as it gives the fans who cant make it access to watch the match for a reasonable price.

Anything 2 hrs or less away then im not so sure as it could put off anyone thinking of travelling and still undecided about attending.

Used in the right way then im all for it.

As far as i am aware you don't even have to subscribe to I follow to buy the match tonight .  The impression i got when subscribing was that "subscribe to iFollow and you get ..blah blah blah...games screened live...blah blah" .... in reality i believe you can just go on the i follow page and buy the game anyway by just registering your email...no need to pay the annual subscription at all.

The extra income that the club will get will help pay for the new ground and top class players as happens in the Premier league.

Most Premier League games are televised, in fact every one I think you can watch for free if you can be bothered to figure out how. But it hasn't stopped people wanting to attend them in large numbers. Technology may improve so the coverage is so good that it feels like you there, with virtual reality perhaps one day, but for the moment ardent fans like to be there.

Also......unlike iFollow where you're not supposed to share the cost with others, there's nothing to stop a group of let's say five watching the match at someones house at a cost of only £2 each   ;)

I think Garth has this wrong, mate; a full season pass includes all games unless specified as TV games as far as I know. I am in China and I can watch the game here on my full season pass if I want to get up at 02:45am :-)

As I understand it, you can only get a full season pass that includes live games, if you live anywhere except the Uk. The £10 viewing fee is payable by Uk residents only and is payable by both ifollow members and non members.

I gave up on ifollow, and currently am only registered on the free limited part of the service. So, just to be clear, can i watch the game tonight for £10, without paying for the full subscription?

You can buy a match pass for £10.
You have to register for at least the free version of I follow.
The clue is "match" pass.  you buy a pass for each individual match that's available.
I'm going to a mates to watch it.

I just went on Towns official site; https://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/news/

Towards the bottom there is an 'advert' to watch tonights game.Clicked on that and paid £10 on a card.

It has been very simple so far, just hope it works come 7.45 tonight ;)

I orded the game a couple of weeks ago as I used the VPN paid £5.42 since I order the 15:00 away and some home if unable to attend.

I work alot of nights I did 7 out of 9 nights including a Friday night which left unable to physically leave the house for the Lincoln game I was that exhausted.

With the extra fans ordering it will be good to see what the stream will be like, the worst steams for me was Lincoln away last season went all blurry and then Lincoln at home which the feed was missing for the first 20 plus mins.

The frustrating thing for me with Ifollow is my laptop dosent take browser streams well I have to stream the game 320p to keep it smooth.

Where on Kodi I can stream 1080p fine, browser streams can be very choppy at times that's why I have to watch on 320p.

Don't have any other score updates/ commentary/  on though as the streaming runs behind real time, sometimes by a minute or so .....nothing worse than watching Town prepare to take a free kick on the edge of the opponents box, getting a bit excited and then seeing a score flash showing the opposition take the lead !!!

That's exactly how it is. The subscription just gives you access to commentary, early highlights and match videos plus the odd exclusive interview that aren';t really worth it anyway. If the matches are all you care about you can just create a free account and buy all the matches you want to watch. The highlights get uploaded as freeview in less than a day and most videos are freeview vids anyway.

It won’t let me buy a pass for the game on Ifollow on my phone, just keeps sending me to a screen where the menu just repeats itself down the page.

Anyone else having issues?
Posted by: lukeo, August 21, 2018, 6:24pm; Reply: 33
Genuine question... Who gets the £10? Does it all go to gtfc? Does the ifollow company itself keep all of it?.. Surely if gtfc don't get it all they should open mcmennies and have it on and charge £5 per person and a free drink or something like that?

Another question for the techies out there

I have a Samsung andorid phone

I have downloaded the Grimsby town app

I am using a chromecast for my tv

Using google home on my phone I am chosen the cast screen/audio

This mirrored my phone onto the tv. Al fine up to now. Was able to watch the MJ interview earlier on the tv using this no probs. So i decided to spend the tenner for the stream.

Plays fine on my phone but the tv screen is blank when trying to watch the video stream but the audio is fine. As soon as i come off the video on the phone once again it mirrors the screen fine. Just blank when the match video playing. So frustrating.

Any ideas anyone. PLZ help

That’s a fiver well spent let’s hope the second half is just much value for money all round!

I pay the £45 mainly for the away match commentaries, I think that is the only way to get the commentary ?

In terms of the coverage of the game, I thought this was excellent.  Was a couple of moments where the feed was lost and I had to exit to go back into it but it resumed from the point where it was left.

Commentary matched up to the images but having radio commentary alongside actual images doesn't always work.

I watched on my phone and like another poster on here was hoping to mirror to the TV through Chromecast but had the same experience, bit disappointing really as it's hardly ideal watching it on a phone but hey ho.

The fact you can't purchase via the app but have to purchase on the website made it a bit of a farce to be honest, don't see why it can't be set-up to be straight forward.

I watched a few games last season when I was errr abroad and the quality was no way near this.  Forever losing the feed, a very grainy feed at that too!  Be interesting to see what feedback is from people for future away games when they're also 'abroad'.
Posted by: LH, August 22, 2018, 11:05am; Reply: 69
Whilst I don’t think JT is the most descriptive commentator for radio his commentary worked well with images last night. Which is a bit strange really considering he was mostly covering the match for the radio! As you say DHM there were a few teething problems but they should be easy enough to iron out for the future. I think I’m W1 D2 L0 for matches I’ve watched via streams now.
Posted by: diehardmariner, August 22, 2018, 11:25am; Reply: 70
Yeah I should have added that it doesn't always work...but for some reason JT does/did.  As you say I think it's because he's not really descriptive on the radio, he often goes something like "WELL THIS IS DANGEROUS.......OHHHHHHHHHHHHH" and you've no idea what the hell he's on about.  Whereas for TV that's perfect.
Posted by: Tommy, August 22, 2018, 12:04pm; Reply: 71
Yeah mine was good quality.

The commentary was ever so slightly a half-second behind the action. But I'd rather it be that way around than have the sound give away a goal's been scored a second before I see it go in.

Watched it on my TV screen by streaming it on my phone and then screen mirroring it to my firestick in the tele.

No issues other than missing our bloody goal when taking little'un upstairs to bed. By the time I got back downstairs I discovered you can only rewind 40 or 45 seconds behind the live feed and it was too late.

I'm not to sure, I only pay for match passes, signed up for a free account mid way last season. I suppose you can put the VPN on USA or Canadian server and try and buy a match pass.

I have a VPN on my galaxy s8 and set to US as location but I'm still getting the 'Due to Rights restrictions this content is not available in your location message. Any ideas anybody?

On another note I can't stream to my tv once the VPN is on so any suggestions on that from the more technical would also be gratefully received!

Maybe try another VPN? ZenMate is available for Android, not sure if any countries are available for free on there, however, on the PC version you get access to Germany, Hong Kong, Romania and USA for free.

Try a different location on your VPN may help. You also can’t watch if you’ve logged in from the uk the last 24 hours. As for screen mirror, once you’ve got the video playing turn off the VPN and it will carry on playing, you can then put it on your telly.

As Nelly said, looks like your VPN is blocked by IFollow somehow. You could try choosing a different location, France maybe - somewhere with a close physical server. Express VPN works, Pure VPN works and is cheap. Had to change myself as Nord VPN doesn't work anymore and I'd paid three years in advance.

It's Express I'm trying to use. I will have logged in within 24 hours so guess that could be the issue as Headingley suggests. Will absyain in advance next time and give it another go. Cheers for all the advice gents - doesn't sound like I'm missing much today!

I've got two accounts to avoid this - one with my UK ifollow subscription for watching 'what kind of player are ya' interviews, and another with no subscription that I only ever login to with my VPN on for watching live matches.

A cunning plan indeed. I just tend to leave my VPN on all the time.

That's all i do barring having a UK subscription, a mate normally has them interviews on anyway, i just use VPN free account and pay for match passes, i'm always gutted when fans have issues especially when i have made the suggestion regarding ExpressVPN to Rodley. And to not rub it in but it still defintley working the stream for was the best one of the season didn't lag once on Google Chrome.

I only log into the Grimsby Town account on VPN trying to do everything to show i'm in the USA.
