It's on the telly on that number. You need to be on free view though not Sky etc

Rochdale look a bit too neat and quick for us, a good 5 minute spell aside.

Our midfield 3 aren't really getting near them (and Woolford has only touched the ball a handful of times). We've not followed the runners either so a little fortunate to be just one goal down.

Cook and Vernam can't get into the game and the ball has rarely been near Hooper so we've not created much. A couple of nice runs from Hessenthaler but we need another man in the middle to close them down a bit more.

We'll need to play a good bit better to get back into this.

A batsman who scores lots of runs when the conditions are good but can't cope when the going gets tough.

When Amond was with us, he scored loads of goals but none against our promotion rivals or the stronger teams in the division.

It was our failure to stop goals going in at the other end which kept automatic promotion out of our reach though.

I don't know about Wilks but Dembele is doing a damn sight better than he did at BP and better than I expected at Peterborough. A couple of assists already, the fans like him and he's not laid out moaning about his back yet.

Sounded pretty poor overall ....beaten by a better side from a higher League with an experienced manager ....no shame in that but with arguably our strongest team still unable to hardly work an effort on goal.
No real strong options on the bench to make a huge difference when it was obvious we werent in the game.

Posted by: Maringer, August 14, 2018, 9:36pm; Reply: 63
Rochdale are much too quick for us throughout the team. We've, understandably, looked sluggish in the middle. Welsh and Woolford aren't suited to a middle three so I don't know why Jolley persisted with it for so long.

Lacking threat up front but we've had enough chances from set pieces to score at least one (though they could easily have had another themselves).

If it were a league game I'd be concerned we had been so completely outpaced for a second time in three games, but they are in a higher division so hopefully not a sign of things to come for the rest of the season.

I didn't think we were as bad as some are making out. We had a good spell first half when we created a few chances and put them under pressure.

Ultimately their greater pace and experience told. I still saw some.encouraging signs.. Mwe were playing a decent L1 side with a very good manager don't forget.

Despite his end to the season I still think JJ is the weak link... He may have 1 good game in 4/5 but games like tonight he's ananymous and offers very little. Akheem Rose looked more threatening for me in the 10 minutes he had than Hooper had in the previous 80. I wonder when we do get a striker in if MJ will go with a front 3 of Cook - A N Other - Vernham.

I'm sure the gaffer will have learnt more from tonight hut I am surprised to many of the first XI got 90 minutes with an important Derby coming up at the weekend.

Was impressed with Dixon again, especially first half!

Town where not as bad as some are making out.

Rochdale played well. They have a real clear style and formation.

Town had moments but with Woolford alongside Welsh there just isn't enough pace to pressure a team like that that. All too often it left the front three isolated and lacking service.

Bit of a lesson but we won't play sides like that every week.

Time to keep calm!

Had some great days out at Rochdale over the years.
I thought tonight we would do well and it would be a good opportunity bearing in mind Rochdale only stayed up via 1 point more than Oldham last season.
Sadly we were miles of the pace.
Posted by: Cloudy, August 14, 2018, 10:18pm; Reply: 80
Thought Clifton may have got on in central midfield to try and match their pace.
Collins and Whitmore did well enough, Vernam showed good pace at times but we did look a little toothless.

Think Lincoln and MK may take the points in next two games but think with our level of budget we should be capable of making mid table.

Additions to give some physical presence and pace would be very welcome

Somebody mentioned Walsh isn't suited to a 3, which seems odd as he is clearly suited to a 3 as far as I can see. He is good but has no pace and is an exclusively defensive midfielder. Not sure he would suit a 2 man central midfield but will b fine esp when playing with a midfielder with more pace and energy than Woolford.
Shame rose is suspended for the derby, would prefer to see Clifton than woolford.
Thought JJ was very quiet too

1 and 2. What I don't understand is why the minute Elliot Whitehouse's diagnosis came through we weren't out there scouring for an equivalent on loan.

3. As per most of last season until MJ got him fired up for the last few games, let's hope he's not just going to give us half a dozen decent games this season.

We need 3 players - a striker who can play centrally in a front 3 or as a loan striker, a winger and the Whitehouse replacement

I was pretty impressed with Rochdale, truth be told. A good footballing side, though lacking bite up front. Hopefully, most of the teams we face this season will be inferior to them.

Just got home and clear to see we are well short in terms of quality .

Probably 5 or 6 players in the current first team that are good enough to make a challenge but imo way off in were we want to be and still struggling to see what the actual gameplan is.

My comment was intended to note that Welsh and Woolford together can't play in a 3. You could get away with one or the other but both together are much too slow.

There's absolutely no trolling from me.

I've watched 180 minutes of competitive football at BP and we have posed little or no threat. We also had a bench full of kids tonight. Whatever the plan is, it looks more Home Bargains than Waitrose.

I think last seasons Summerfield would have been a plus in this team. We had fast forwards on display tonight yet for the entire match not one pass through the channels.Where are the brains in this team. Rochdale played with a plan- we did not. We must improve for Lincoln but the season is still young. 2 more loan players could improve us vastly.
Posted by: jamesgtfc, August 14, 2018, 10:48pm; Reply: 91
Good to see a couple of youngsters being given a chance but with a few players out injured/suspended we had no choice but to issue a squad number to a youth player.

I thought Rochdale were good and their superiority showed. We had spells but in the main part they controlled the game. Patient possession in the lead up to their first goal waiting for the right opportunity to open up.

McKeown was back in yellow so everyone could see him.

Welsh seemed to play too advanced for much of the game. It is clear he hasn't got the pace to get back although he took a booking to stop Rochdale breaking from deep. I noticed in the warm up today that Clifton was only using his left foot so I wonder if the management team are working on that side of his game to provide left sided competition in midfield?

Saturday is going to be a tough test for our team as we seek to stop free scoring Lincoln and their two forwards; Akinde and Akinde-Pen.

Agree. This present team irrespective of injuries or suspensions is not good enough. We are a team of ordinaries. We can make excuses all day long . Whether it is the players that don't fit the system or the system doesn't fit the players something is wrong and needs to change sooner than later. Last night I couldn't make out what formation we were playing or what the players positions were. I know Rochdale are a league above but we were drawn out of position so easily and are completely defunct of the ability to change any plans that we may have had. I want Town to do well  but we urgently need improvement before this loan transfer window closes to do so.

I agree we are ordinary but then again I dont think we can expect much more. Last season we were shockingly bad so ordinary is an improvement of sorts.

Loanees, subject to attitude, may well improve us but I think there was too much unfounded expectation at the start. Mid table is about the limit of this squad IMHO & i expect massive fallout on social media after Saturday

Regardless of the fact that the squad is a few players light, most of the teams we play this season won't be as good as Rochdale (or, probably, FGR).

We can and hopefully should play better than in the two home games so far. The main thing is that we need to take the points available when we play the weaker teams. I'd argue we played a good bit better last night against Rochdale than against FGR, even though Rochdale look a superior side. Just need to keep on developing and one or two new players could be all it takes to make us more competitive.

I hate to say this but DC was the route cause again last night, bad passes, no concentration and beat in the air on countless occasions, I have to realistic and look at that starting 11 and in my opinion these are the only players I would say could make a good core of a solid team.
1-macca
2- Davies
3- Welsh
4- vernham
5- hessaintailer
6- Cook
7- Whitmore.
So to me that leaves us at least 4 players we need to make this team competitive, MJ has only has 1-window so far and I would say judge him after xmas once he's had another bite of the transfer cherry, oh and please, someone enlighten me, what the hell is Robles doibg playing in a football league team?,sunday pub league quality at best!!
