Can someone please explain to me the point of Mitch Rose?

If you look at my post from last Saturday evening I questioned his inclusion in the team as he is a liability and didn’t look fit. And today another straight red leaving his team mates to play half an hour with 10 men. Not the first time he’s done it either - sent off 15 mins in v Yeovil away last season. His decision making on and off the ball leaves a lot to be desired.

At least with a 3 match ban Jolley will be forced into looking at other options.

If he wasn't so good at pens we could be playing Maidenhead today.

Seem to recall him scoring a few useful penalties that kept us in the league last season so for that alone is the point.

Bit rash in the tackle occasionally but thought he played ok last week and telewag says sending off harsh.

I’m sure he’s not the only player in our squad that can take a penalty. Can you really justify his inclusion on the off chance we get a penalty?

If you make a challenge like that away from home, you give the ref a decision to make and many refs at our level aren't shy at waving cards around.

Got to say it looked over the top to me and no argument from me over straight red....tho i only saw it on a small phone screen so i might be wrong......as i often am according to the wife

I don`t think it was a red card at all. Very harsh decision from the referee who was weak all game.

Rose doesn't look fit??...give ya bonce a wobble son, he's fitter and leaner now than he's ever been, he's biggest problem is he doesn't move the ball quick enough but unfit??...tosh!!

I'm sorry I must be mishearing you, your talking about the man who single-handedly saved us from relegation last season if you haven't got anything positive to say don't post. We won didn't we?

He’s a good player at this level and has the potential to be better. Great athlete and he makes us miles more competitive. He’s got a wild challenge in him but that doesn’t make him a bad player.

This thread is pathetic

No worries. Dixon played well, so someone else is getting it in the neck was what i meant. Always has to be a scapegoat, despite an excellent away win.

Fair enough if I’m in the minority with this opinion. It’s surprises me but I’m not going to complain about that. Let’s just see how long the patience lasts if he starts missing pens.

More to his game than scoring pens in my opinion, but as we say, everyone is entitled to their view.

Not seen the incident but he does have a bit of a record with red cards from rash challenges and referees know about players' records. He's by no means a dirty player but is often a bit clumsy in the challenge and, as he's a strong lad, tends to send the other player flying when he catches them.

I don't think I'd say he was the most athletic player, however. Strong, decent in the air, good at penalties and the long throw is useful but he's not exactly quick or box to box all game.

Port vale last season he was poor .... notts county he was outstanding as he has been since that PV game imo .... it's a bit lame to slag a player off after we win.

It makes me laugh how after an great performance there is always one nobhead that has to try bring the spirit down with a pointless thread slaging a player off or just been negative. Come on enjoy the win FFS . UTM

Rose lunged in with two feet red card every time for me.

Great result all the same two fantastic goals and making chances, what well-done lads.

Looking at the tackle again can't see us appealing it was reckless and dangerous.

After the sending off we were holding on desperatley. If for better finishing we would have conceded. If we’d drawn or lost Rose would have cost us. Fair enough, we won the game and that is the most important aspect. A huge win after last weekend and credit to the players, that took heart. But take the rose tinted glasses off (pardon the pun) and you have to admit it could have been very different. Like I said further up, he got away with it today but will he / we next time? And sadly I fear there will be a next time.

Equally if we had taken our chances in the first half the game would have been done and dusted by half time. We didn't, and neither did they, that's football. We scored twice and they didn't, we won.

After a result and an overall performance, I would have thought that was just the lift every fan would be looking for, rather than a witch hunt on one particular player who, in my opinion, stretched for the ball and got sent off. Had he shirked the challenge and they had equalised I would have had far more cause for concern. Thats not 'rose tinted glasses' but I think your comments are negative in the extreme.

Mitch Rose will get cautioned, maybe sent off, have good games and poorer ones but overall I like his physicality and he tends to keep the ball moving. Decent enough player for league two imo

apologies, I didn’t realise there was an aminsoty on anything other than positive posts after one win into a season. I’ve seen a lot worse negativity than this on the fishy over the years over a lot less! I haven’t singled out Rose for critiscm for the sake of it over something small and meaningless, he singled himself out after a sending off. Close the thread, absolute waste of time, rose almost single handledly kept us in the league, without his assured prowess on penalties and long throws we'd be looking at Tuesday nights freezing our mammories off at Torquay!!...

It is a good job Bobby Cumming is not playing today,

He was one of the best and loved a tackle,

BUT

He would have got slated on here by some.

PS  I don't think that should have been red for Mitch.

Players get sent off. It was a mistimed challange. We don’t need a thread every time a player makes a mistake.

I think the issue is that the op thought it was a good thing to make a thread all of his own singling one player out after a win. Surly just to mention it on the match thread would of been different and a better option. I personally think Rose offers a lot to the team in the middle of the park that others don't . He's more than just a peno take he adds a bit of grit and determination and gets into good positions and his distribution is decent not as bad as some peeps think. I would say since Jolley as been here his all round play as improved lots.

Let’s not forget he also managed to score a few last season too, not just penalties. He does make runs into the box from midfield.

If you re watch Cook’s goal, it’s Rose’s strong pass forward that really provides the impetus, and he goes on a surging run into the box anticipating the 1-2.

It just so happens that Hooper laid it off to Cook instead! :)

Then equally slag off the players who didnt put the chances away when we were well on top first half ??

Looking at other sending offs around the leagues this weekend its the normal story...refs come out at the start of a season all guns blazing following the latest directives to the letter, players adapt, refs adapt and after a few games it all settles down.

Most of the 800+ on Saturday thought it was harsh that he even conceded a free kick never mind got punished for it. "Well in", "great tackle", etc being the comments around  where i was stood

Besides i would rather have players that are commited and put there all in to tackles, shows they are putting a bit of effort in and should be praised for doing so. he is gonna be a cracking player for us and is finding his feet and at 24 has a lot to give.

Remember we had Jamie Clarke once over who i thought was a ghost as the ball seemed to pass straight through him like he wasnt there. so could be a lot worse!
