Wonder if that was the Mariners bidding, looks an interesting player, 9 goals already this season, don't think we'd stretch to £250000 though.

Saw that on Sky Sports News last night and wondered the same.

Scored 9 goals already this season, including 2 hat-tricks.

Looks a good bet this lad but doubt its us, would imagine its a L1 or Championship gamble.

Sharkland - Opening soon in Cleethorpes?

I'd highly doubt it'll be a championship or even league 1 club, considering the level he's played at.

It has more of a US prison drama feel to me.

Sounds like a name Banksy would give to another theme park.  :) However, there sounds to be nothing dismal about this lad.

Maybe Bentley could confirm if we are after him !

Apparently it was Fylde who put in the bid. Crazy how much some conference teams are able to bid.

Just the sort of striker I'd hoped we would have been in the market for... Young, fresh up and coming rather than a mercenary looking for a pay day, a'la Lee Angol!

Does anyone have any confidence that we'll be able to add to the squad before tomorrow evening?

A loan striker is looking more and more likely now.

I really hope we can get at least a striker in.
A wide player or two might have to be loaned.

Did the article say it was an EFL club?

Scottish championship is maybe the equivalent standard of what...? Conference maybe?

Who mentioned age? Does someone looking for a pay day have to be 30+?

I watched a Scottish Championship game last season and it was more like Evo-Stik Division One North standard.   ;D

Reading about him he sounds like a cracking player and far better and more suited to Grimsby than Angol. Unfortunately Ayr have turned down £150,000 and are determined to hold out for at least £250,000. Shankland, who is 23 on Friday, is apparently very happy at Ayr and not pushing for a move.
All of which makes it extremely unlikely that Shankland will become a Grimsby Town player this week.

Shankland is one of three footballing brothers, all who have had links with Ayr. One of them, Mark Shankland has been at my club Auchinleck Talbot since the start of the 2014-15 season and is a dead ball specialist. He was also Ayr's youngest ever first team player, making his debut two months before his 16th birthday. Their uncle also played for Auchinleck.

Scottish Junior football still has some real raw gems playing the game, and it used to be a fertile hunting ground for the Town many moons ago.

Didn't we get Bobby Cumming from Scottish Junior Football?

I know he didn't come from Scottish Junior Football and I know he had scored a few for Airdrie but surely when Town first signed the great Sir Matt Tees it was a bit of a risky shot in the dark signing? I'm sure absolutely no one in Gy had ever heard of him

Bobby played with Baillieston Juniors from the Glasgow area. Bobby Ross also played Junior.

Genuine question, when was the last time a player from that level made it to the FL and did well Jock? Because Scottish football is a terrible, terrible standard right up to the SPL these days.

Matt Tees and George McClean were not that bad, mind you Colin Cramb was top scorer when he left us .

No doubt once upon a time it was a fruitful searching ground but it's over 50 years since Matt Tees first signed for Town!
