Last season i believe penalties kept us up from Mitch Rose, we struggled to score in open play.
I thought this would have been addressed this summer it has not.
I sincerely hope i am wrong but this could be a long season again.
UTM.

I posted a similar statement on another thread...
As I've said, the one position which should have taken precedence over all others was that of an out n out striker, even if we did what scunny have sone and scour the lower leagues for a 20+ goal machine, hate to say this but Robles?..really, waste of a seat on the bench IMO??...Hooper, don't think so..Cardwell??, cant see it in him, Vernam??...not a striker, Cook??...again, in the same mould as Vernam....
To make it worse any striker who we could afford must have looked at yesterday and ran for the hills, our task just got harder I'm afraid to say...

I'm not one of the happy clappers, on that showing and the lack of changing the system when it clearly wasn't working and the failure to sign a decent striker so far the future looks bleak.

Vernham, Cook, Robles surely it would have been better to get one quality striker with their wages unless they are on peanuts.!

My worry is all other teams will look at that result and realise we are there for the taking.

Vernam is an excellent player. He's not an out and out striker though.

Good quite often this can work to your advantage

So we can judge all the new forwards on 1 game when some of them havent even played?
Time will tell but they may well click and score a load.
Robles is someone no one in Grimsby knows a thing about so impossible to judge.
Cardwell may get a few games in a row this season and could turn out to be a striker worth a bit.
Hooper needs the ball playing in the right way and not hoofed but has proved he can do it if the football is played right.

At the moment we have, what 25 players? Normally we get through at least 40 in a season, including loans. There are about 15 who haven't even come yet, plus only 14 have pulled on a shirt in anger.

I was thinking about that this morning. We have a first team squad of only 22 (i think) at the moment. Whitehouse is out for a good while, and Clifton and Rose are not yet ready for anything other than bit parts, so we are very light on numbers at the moment. There will be a few more incoming yet i would have thought. I suspect some now and some more in Jan from Sweden.

It's not a great idea to plan your season based on players who become available in January! If this was to happen, we'd need some good loan players for a few months to tide us over until then.
