Think that’s abit harsh. Listening to Jolley post match it’s clear the team haven’t followed the “game plan” which I think refers to the long balls.

Two of the goals came as a result of sticking rigidly to the "game plan" - playing it back to the keeper at every opportunity.

Never thought I would see a goal as comical as the one we conceded at home to Coventry last season with Macca stranded 30 yards out.

That’s got sweet FA to do with a game plan, that’s players not executing the simple basics, passing the ball!

That is HIS job. It is what he is paid for. It is HIS job to make sure they play to the game plan. Nothing changed at half time we still played hoofball against 2 centre backs who lapped it up. He should have got his message across at least at half time.

Poor excuse in my opinion. Another Slade trait blame everyone else!!!

I agree why play hoof ball up to a striker Cook who cannot head a ball and is weak.
Also hooper looked half decent last season on the left up front he is terrible.

Well you called him “Sladeball in a suit” so are you saying he’s told them to play like that then as that’s what your post incinuates.

Making them play to the game plan as his job has nothing to do with what you said as (the performance is indefensible) ....But your saying he’s deliberately asking them to play long balls, no?!

Why do managers/teams believe they can play their way out from the back in league 2, do the simple thing in defence and try the pretty stuff in the opponents half.Eventually you will be caught out, as today.

The Hall-Johnson goal wouldn’t have happened had Jolley played a left footer at left back. Naturally a right footer at left back is inclined to cut inside and turn back on himself (as RHJ) did leading to the pass back. Trying to be too clever.

I think he meant that the performance was Slade-like and the only difference is the manager's suit (which is too tight incidentally) as opposed to training top and baseball hat - nothing has changed!

Correct

In my opinion he told them to play long down the channels when in possession. The other part of the game plan they didn't stick to I am not sure.

In my opinion he tried to get Hooper to outpace the defence

I wondered how long it would take for that annual "time to gel" excuse, I'm sorry but that doesn't excuse that performance.

We made an average FGR side look world beaters, are you saying they have had time to gel?

Jolley can only work with the tools he's got clearly FGR has better tools in every dept at their disposal.

Has Jolley been shortchanged in the transfer market??

Only time will tell but both Jolley and the fans were badly let down yesterday no wonder he kicked the water bottle down the touchline in frustration.

He looked absolutely pissde off and so were we.

Maybe but I thought FGR looked a lot better than average they're a big well-drilled outfit that CAN play some lovely quick passing football on the deck.

Was instantly concerned when I realised that their number 4 (Lloyd James) was playing - always looked good for Exeter and I believe played for Southampton in the past. They were comfortable in possession and always had the option of going to Reid who had Harry Clifton on toast for the whole game.

I was shocked at how easily and often they were given the ball back without even putting us under much pressure at all. FGR look a decent outfit, and due to their resources I posted on here that they would be my surprise team of the season, but I'm not going to elevate their performance to being one of a table topping side yet. They looked an upper mid-table side to me, but who knows how good they are? We made it far too easy for them without them having to make it far too difficult for us..

Based upon them having 30 shots and us winning 3-1 away, Chesterfield fans thought both sides would be top seven after the opening game of last season..

We may have been bad, but for me, they compounded it by being much better than i was expecting. They have clearly strengthened a hell of a lot from last season, and i think they looked at least top 7. As ever, only time will tell.

I agree. I also notice how they worked out that they didn't need to challenge our centre backs and Welsh for headers as they could drop off and receive the 2nd balls headed, more often than not, straight back to them.

Michael Jolley is a smart guy he knows he cannot serve up another performance like that.

The biggest problem for me is we ended last season on promotion form playing FOOTBALL, nothing outstanding but a big improvement.

I am not angry at losing I am not even angry we lost 4-1

I am angry the way we lost.

Whoever thought The Veggies were good, well we made them look good. No press, no fight, no commitment, just Sladeball all over again.

Almost 6000 home fans there yesterday all full of hope for the new season, some new, some returning after a while and they were dished up that debacle.

Only 1 game, it better be only 1 game too or Mike will soon  see the nasty side of the Town following.

He thinks he got stick yesterday, he ain't seen nothing yet and fingers crossed never will.
