Evidently we had a bid rejected for Ryan Bowman at Motherwell.

Ex Darlo York Gateshead.

Not bad, but I think Motherwell are over valuing their players. Seems like they will want a lot more than we are prepared to pay-but we definitely need a striker pretty urgently

Looks like we are prepared to go in with a money offer for a striker which is pleasing. Definitely in need of one.

Think we need more than a striker with 3 weeks to kick off  we have half a team and hardly any games before the big day,,, worries me a bit

In HD?

Perhaps if you had bought a season ticket that extra couple of hundred quid would have swung it ;)

Really?

Jolley's already explained the reason for the comparative lack of pre-season fixtures.  With all due respect, I judge the opinion of him and his specialist staff on how many games are best for us over anyone else on this forum (I include myself in that too).

As for the half a team.  We've more or less get two XI's in the squad now.  I agree we probably need an out-and-out striker, but I wouldn't be massively concerned if we started the season with Cook and Hooper/Cardwell as the front pairing.

damn. i suppose there's only 1 thing for it. We're going to have to offer one of our prized assets in part exchange. Step forward paul Dixon, your time has come ;D ;D ;D

Clubs very rarely go in with their maximum bud first time so if'd fully expect us to go in with an improved offer.

Perhaps Ryan may want to test himself in the EFL again so may push for the move, who knows!

Being 6,2 and a 1 in 3 goal scoring record over 318 games seems just the type of striker at need to fit into MJ's 433/4132 system.

A dangerous strategy Forza, mind you, I suppose we could use the money we get as well as the striker, to pay off the benign loans.  ;D

Motherwell look to have a strategy of signing players from League 2/Non League and then making money from some of them. Seems to be successful for them. I'm not sure if he's worth another bigger bid, given that he will be a free agent in 12 months.

Nice to see we are actually active in the transfer market and not just free agents

Since we don't know what Town have bid, or what they are asking for, it sounds a bit presumptuous to claim they are overvaluing. They are probably just refusing the first offer for the simple reason that everyone always has a bit more up their sleeve.

Well we could guess since it's a five figure sum, according to the report.

It also says in the report that they would accept a 5 figure sum, so you would think we would be able to get him if we really want him.

I notice he has been wearing number 12 too, one of the numbers we have left vacant so far...

I can actually remember him playing for Gateshead.  Looked a real handful every time I saw him.

Big but mobile.  Looks like a really good signing if it comes off. IMHO

I hope this happens. Have friends from Motherwell who rate him highly, so would hopefully be a good move

Well, its not as straight forward as that is it. Like everyone else, i have no idea on what we've bidded, but theres a big difference between 10,000 and 90,000.

Must have missed that what are the reasons given for the lack of preseason matches ?

IIRC he said it was a deliberate policy. Added that Burnley had very few pre season games and most observers say they were one of the fitest teams in the prem. As far as MJ is concerned it is his way of getting the squad ready for the start of the season

We Bidded £79999 but they wanted £80000. J.S.F. said fkem I'm not going that high,  he's not worth that much

No comment from Chris Long isn’t necessarily a bad sign. If there was no chance of him signing for us surely he’d have just said no?

Bowman bid is opening salvo
Game of poker
If MJ wants him he'll go back with higher bid
Could be useful forward in L2

Can someone remind please
What is MJ's reason for fewer pre-season matches this year?

I have genuinely missed that comment

Cheers

Got a good leap on him.

Seriously though, he is a target man a la Bowman isn’t he? Could well be of significance, this.

At the start of the 16/17 season he signed a 2 year deal at Motherwell. So surely he would be out of contract now?

People are saying he is a prolific goal scorer-on what basis over the last 2 seasons for Motherwell. I saw him play a few times season before last and even allowing for the fact Motherwell were having a hard time he didn't strike me as being anything special but he could have improved last season for them to give him an extension

They have signed Salmon but they will still need Bowman.  Salmon will disappear every year on a 3,000 mile journey.  🐟🐟

or just keeping all his options open, keeping any other interested parties on their toes and potentially bidding up to get his signature.
