See ya!

Fatty Evans ‘despite different, significant offers for him, I went home yesterday believing that this deal couldn’t be done. So I give my gratitude to Barry Fry, the Chairman and the board for ensuring we have this young gentleman with us today’

Six figure fee so for me that's great business for an eye catcher with little end product or real feel for the game. Hope Posh can developer him in to a footballer but they have a lot of work ahead that's for sure.

Think most Town fans will be happy with this?

Thrilled to announce signing for 6 figure fee from @officialgtfc the signing of 21 year old Sirike Dembele on a 3 year deal. Exciting EFL young player of month winner who can play wide/up front & type of player posh fans will enjoy watching.

Tweet from the peteboro owner.

Just watched his first interview with the Posh and states his main strength is creating and scoring goals, well think he should have added the word occasionally and/or have potential to....

Think we may have done ok with this deal but only time will tell.....

Good luck to the lad but 6 figures thats a great bit of business by Town. Yes he is pacey and skilful but like others have said lacking in end product and a bit too lightweight for me.

He was rumoured to be on peanuts here too so even if it is £100k, we have still made a tidy profit after wages.

Whatever the deal is, I hope we have some additional clauses inserted.

Great potential, but for one reason and another, GTFC wasn't the right place to develop that last season.  Wish him all the best and well done to the board and management for a good piece of business.

Getting a six figure fee for somebody we picked up for nothing is decent business. He obviously saw interest and didn't want to be here so the time to cash in on that extra year option was now. Bags of potential and might do well down the road, probably would do better with good players around him and a far more settled team. I don't think a relegation battle was good for him and his development.

When he did produce he did very well but struggled to cope with the pressure of trying to be the playmaker.

I’m really happy with that. The activation of a his second year has earned us a good little earner. He’ll flourish one day but he was very raw, it would have been good to see what MJ and AL could do with his progression but I think it suits us all to move on. Best of luck to him and I hope these funds are added to MJ’s war chest.

I think he could come good albeit lacked consistency, however shows good business, get players in for chips and off-load them to clubs willing to pay, the model Exeter and Peterborough use effectively. We're actually doing things to be a self-sustaining football club for once  (icon_lol)

I was a season ticket holder at Boston during Evan's rule and I can honestly say Cloudy is spot on with the above, when I read earlier that Dembele had gone to Posh I thought that's not the best place to progress whilst Evans is in charge. Dembele is a very frustrating player and I can imagine loads of foul language from the techinical area.heading Siriki's way,not good for the lads confidence.. :-/

Hard to say if it’s a good piece of business without knowing what the fee is. Could be £100,000 could be nearly a million. Dembele’s got loads of potential and IMO £100k doesn’t represent good value for us. Certainly not enough to buy a good striker.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see another chunk off the debt in the accounts next May.

For the sake of our own reputation, I hope the kid goes on to do well. We’re trying to build a club that develops young players and reaps the rewards on the pitch and then in transfer fees - he could be a great example of this with the right coaching & application.

We all know what he was like and what he was capable of, both good and bad, and the fact of the matter is he didn’t want to play at Grimsby anymore. So in that sense, pocketing over £100k for him and freeing up another wage every week is a great result from a poor season.

I still maintain though, if his name was Simon Dimbleby, he’d be on his way down the pyramid rather than up it!

Six figure deal covers a big range, but even at 100k worst case, it's good business for the club. Can't see it as a great move for the player but good luck to him and his agent - it's their choice. Can't see him being 'mentored' by Evans - more than likely bawled at, but all the best to them. Ker Ching.

not often or consistently enough and usually followed by a heap of disapointment come the end product but thanks anyway.

Not big or physical enough for L1 IMHO, don't wish the lad bad luck far from it I hope he flourishes. However his agent needs a slap as Evans will not be with the Posh in 2 seasons time and Dembele might just end up disappearing, he could have gone to more stable clubs in L1 or 2.

Good business by GTFC all the same, 100% of the money needs to go to MJ.

I remember at Barnet him 'skinning' the full back. He jinxed this way and that way and left him for dead leading to Sam Jones' goal. I've looked at the video several times and still don't know how he did it. One moment he was heading directly to the by line and the next headed to the center of the pitch. The poor full back's face was a picture. He reminded me of Trigger in Fools and Horses after Del Boy fell through the bar and Trigger looking bewildered as to where Del Boy had gone.

Port Vale away when he got his first goal was really great for him as he had been trying so hard. He was estatic.

As someone else said he lit up the pitch in the first half of the season and looked great but little came of it but it was good to watch. Good luck to him. I'm sure he will need it under Evans.

If he meant his second goal at Cheltenham (and I think he did) then he remains one of the most naturally talented players I've seen at Town for a long long time.

I also recall some suggestion Peterborough were keen last summer, and he might have been picked up before August had ended - Slade certainly said, what Dembele?  When asked if any contact had been made in any of our squad.  He moved the conversation on quickly.

Yes, there were questions of application, and not handling people doubling-up on him, and then all the problems that come from being in a poor team.  He was garbage at Coventry away for example - but I also suspect he wasn't fully fit.

If a team can make that early season form consistent, and with gradual coaching improve decision making they've got a gem.  Let's hope for that - maybe a sell-on % may prove to be worth more than the undisclosed fee we've had.  My personal view is that he'll rise further up the leagues rather than drop down them.

He's a young lad - I wish him well.

Possibly a kid caught up in a “FIFA street” apprenticeship rather then a professional footballer apprenticeship? Where a trick is considered more important than a tracking defensive run.

He has talent but we need players who are not like Vauxhall vivas - rubbish in the cold!

Spoke to him a couple of times, shy but polite all being well he’ll prosper and we’ll get the sell on.

Not sure how well he'll do at a higher level. Perhaps a bit more time on the ball to show his abilities? Doubt it.

Personally, I'm delighted we've got that amount of money for him. Hope it is spent well. Don't expect him to achieve much at Posh, but you never know.

Just checked his stats for last season, apart from the 4 goals just 3 assists in 33 games league games, nothing that can't be improved on with our new signings.

For all his times of excitement and flare their was times where he kept the ball far too long and lost possession.  I reckon he will do better with League One standard players around him, good luck to him.

Agree with this. In natural ability he was probably the best at the club by a street but he didn’t understand the demands of the game. So, early on he was playing for fun then it got serious during the bad run, his fitness was dodgy for a while too and he struggled. He obviously did not want another dose of that and wanted to play with better players. Another season here though and perhaps we could have had a real gem and been talking of a 7 figure sale in June 2019.

Yes it is good money and I’m pleased we did well from the deal and there is now some cash in the kitty, but as the advert says- there’s nagging doubt. What might have been for the sake of a few bob?

From his interview in February, he clearly had his sights set on bigger things. The only reason the extension was triggered was to ensure we got a fee.

I think this is a piece if business which can only be judged in time, and it will have been hard for the club to have put a value on him. Clearly has bags of raw potential, but equally there was a lot missing from his game last season.

The next three or four years will be interesting - for me he could go to the very top or into complete obscurity (and anywhere in between). A lot of it will come down to how much he wants it; Posh is probably the ideal club for him at this time.

I’m no great fan of Darragh MacAnthony or Barry Fry but their policy of taking a punt on talent from lower divisions is admirable and one I’d like to see us adopt more often. It’s served us well in the past with the likes of Pearson, McKeown, Hearn and Bogle.

Macauley Bonne of Leyton Orient looks interesting in that respect - may be a little on the pricey side for us however.

May be a good player with decent strikers and a promotion chasing team. In a relegation team he was not suited and did not understand his position too well for me but that can be coached.Clifton was way better in this regard and this , I guess, was why he was dropped. With the onus not so much on him he could be good. For me 50:50 could end up non league or championship, has the potential to go either way. Usually I am disappointed to see a good player go but I am truly indifferent about this one utm

There is one major difference between Clifton and Dembele, Harry would give everything to play for this club and wants to be here, don't need to say anymore, only best of luck for the future Dembele.
