Is it about time these 2 had a urine or got off the pot? It’s 6 weeks since the contracts were offered and I think we need to know what they’re doing now.

I reckon the club already know tbh. tactical release of info to try an boost sales

Couldn't agree more, these two are taking the p*ss.

We should just tell them to go, they've had enough time, we're just a backstop for them and Summerfield really isn't that good anyway.

For the avoidance of doubt I didn't include A. Rose because I think it's fairly clear that he's signed and it's just another admin issue.

I think, since we don't know of any details of their situations, their offers from us, or any possible ongoing negotiation, it'd probably be wrong to jump to conclusions or say they're taking the urine.

I'm prepared to just be patient and trust that Jolley knows what he's doing. He's not stupid, wouldn't let them string us along and will have targets lined up in case they don't sign.

I wonder if the frustrations Jolley mentions stem from this?

I understand that the club have, in the past, delayed announcing of renewals to give season ticket sales a boost.  However, with all due respect, I can't imagine either Collins or Summerfield re-signing would shift many season tickets.

This alleged interest in O'Connor also makes me think that Summerfield won't be staying simply because of the numbers it would give us in midfield.  Be it O'Connor or someone else, Jolley is looking to bring in someone in that position.

End of the the day, these guys have to look after themselves and if they're holding out for the best deal they can they're doing exactly what we would all do in their shoes.

I don’t think Collins really needs to string a L2 club along after the career he’s had . Summerfield doesn’t seem to be that type of character, I’m sure he’s just trying to maximise his career and earnings for much the same reason we signed whitehouse from the gimps
Posted by: Garth, June 19, 2018, 12:50pm; Reply: 7
Doubt both will sign, they would have done by now if interested, both will have other interested parties and its best to accept that their time with us is finished, and we we move on

Plus I would imagine their respective agents do all the wheeler dealing and the players themselves don't get involved until it's either a total rejection or signing.

These guys won`t have reported back for training yet and are probably away on holiday whilst weighing up all options and in Collins case it will be his last playing contract and he might want guaranteed game time? Both decent league 2 players but it`s not the end of the World if they move on and we have to bring in some more newbies.

They are both waiting for a better offer to come along,

I am not bothered if they stay or go,

MJ will find better replacements I am sure,

Danny has had a very good career but can not go on much longer

Luke is looking at possibly his last decent contract which might be away from us.

Ahkeem  is just paperwork again he will sign as soon as its sorted.

What is fairly clear is that that post claiming Summerfield had signed last week was utter garabage.
Posted by: arryarryarry, June 19, 2018, 6:51pm; Reply: 14
Not that bothered if neither sign. I thought Collins was a better player than Clarke but don't think he can be excused from some of the defensive lapses from last season.

Would miss Summerfield's energy but hope that would be replaced by Whitehouse. Summerfield never really created much in the way of goal scoring opportunities in open play and never really looked like scoring himself.

Two of our best players last season, Summers was badly missed when he did his hamstring and we've signed 2 young centre backs who would both benefit from a season alongside DC.

Not sure how many games you saw last year but I would be disappointed but not surprised to see them leave.

Why do 'we' need to know now?

Jolley knows and there's a reason it's not been announced, be that if they are leaving we cover it with good news story of new signing/s?

You also assume in your post they've not told the club what they are doing - complete guesswork.

Please correct me Fishy friends if I'm wrong......

Would like these 2 to sign but wouldnt be devastated if they didnt. Confident Jolley could find players in their position as good if not better. Thats if he hasnt already in Whitehouse and Davis/Whitmore.

DC will be 38 when the season starts, seriously pushing it for a footballer. We need to improve on the likes of Summerfield if we are to progress, I wouldn't have offered either a new deal. They are still getting paid for another ten days, they are clearly looking for better elsewhere which is fair enough. We should do the same before withdrawing the offers.

They'll long it out into next week as their current deals run out on the 30th, either way you';; see some activity soon.

From what I hear Danny Collins is just waiting on work visas to be sorted for a move abroad to do coaching and play out a last year or two. No idea on Summerfield doesn't seem to be anything going on around him at all.

Exactly this.

Plus, don't see either of them as anything like vital to the MJ project, so we're in a good position.

Well they dont want to burn there bridges now do they.  I can inderstand DC wanting to move into coaching and if that means gling abroad to Cyprus for one last pay day then he goes with my best wishes.  Personally i tjink there are better out there but i tjink MJ wants him due to having a young squad his experiencewould be invaluable to him.

Summers i can understand why he's taking his time....it certainly looks like he's looking for a better deal....after all last year people wanted him gone along with Berrett.  Which makes me think he's on his way.

Still MJ will have targets and things will start to hot up come 30th June.

I'd doubt it.

I'm sure MJ said he's been in regular contact with them so it's not like they're leaving us hanging not knowing what's going on. At the end of the day, we don't need to know the ins and outs of the discussions, the Manager does. And I'm confident he knows what he's doing.
Posted by: Davec, June 20, 2018, 8:24am; Reply: 29
I really do not get the issue, Luke and Danny are probably just weighing up options which they are of course more than entitled to do as a footballers career is short and there are no guarantees that it will work out for them we they are retired so If they think they can find a better deal elsewhere then that is fine with me. Jolley has given them deadlines so it is unlike they are taking the club for a ride, aslong as they make a decision before the deadline is up then again that is fine with me. as alluded to above, just because the fans do not know what is happening, I am sure the club will know so we can look at potential replacements if needed.
Posted by: VinnyGTFC, June 20, 2018, 8:57am; Reply: 30
If the club are happy to give them time what's the problem. They are not stringing anyone along or being difficult they are making sure their next steps suit them because it is their careers. Collins is 38 and one year would probably be it so he is looking at what is out there for him. We'd all do that surely.
Posted by: Cloudy, June 20, 2018, 8:58am; Reply: 31
Collins has a history of running contracts down. Didnt we sign him as a free agent outside a window?

Every game but most of them on my computer I am sad to say,

BUT

We have lost good players before and we lose good ones again,

Look on the bright side , this season we have Jolley finding replacements not Slade.

Not always about our offer. There are other considerations for them, such as location, family situations and future career path, especially with regar to Collins. If they go they go and I wish them well, true pros and did their best to help us stay in the league. Akheem Rose seems a bit of an anigma though.
Posted by: grimsby pete, June 20, 2018, 10:26am; Reply: 34
I would like to add if Collins has got a good offer to coach in America he would be silly to turn it down, good luck to him.
Posted by: RoboCod, June 20, 2018, 11:34am; Reply: 35
Don't see a problem at all with Jolley at the helm. Hurst..he'd have sent them packing for dallying and Slade would have been strung along for a  couple weeks more, with panic signings as his alternative fallback.
I trust MJ to be in control of all signings in a fair and calm manner, it's how he is.

Postmen have been on strike in Bolton so maybe Summerfield hasn't received offer yet [especially if it was a second class stamp ]

I don't have a problem with players exploring other options to see if they can seek out better offers.

Where I have a problem is that GTFC should be setting a tighter deadline for a decision one way or another. After all, our club needs to source replacements if any player doesn't accept our contract terms and there may be good players being snapped up elsewhere that could fit the bill.

This isn't all about the needs of the players, the needs of GTFC are important too.

Is he really bothered about whether its league football or not, I wouldn't think it matters that much to him after all Div 2 is hardly great shakes and security of a 2 year contract far outweighs that

Are Kiddy spending a lot of cash at the moment? Lots of sugar daddies down in the Conference these days, apparently. It's going to become even more difficult to get out of there, that being the case.

Are Kidderminster full time professionals? It's possible that he could tie that in with another job and earn just as much if not more than with us. I seem to recall that when we signed Keith Alexander he actually took a slight drop in income to be a full-time professional for us.

For the sort of money gtfc will be offering, why move to ne Lincs?
It's not a criticism of either MJ or the area, but it can be a factor in choosing any job, not just footy.

With Shaun wasn't it the other way around? That he was the one waiting on whether Town could offer him something and he got to the point where he couldn't wait any longer so moved on?

We are all making assumptions on DC and Summers, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out they have other deals on the table and are weighing up their options, which in any walk of life any person would do and we would all do what's best for ourselves and our families.
Got to say it doesn't always cone down to financials as you only need to look at macca and his reasons for staying with us.
Whatever the pair of them decide to do we should respect their decision and either get behind them if they stay or wish them well for the future because the one thing I will not condemn for is lack of effort or not giving a toss if we got relegated last season because I honestly believe they were 75% of the reason we get to see league football again this season.

He clearly had an offer already on the table that was good and didn't want to wait on a manager deciding if he wants to keep him at the club. It seemed like Slade was focused on bringing his own guys in, but was struggling to get his first choices. Pearson just didn't want to wait around to see if he's second of third choice.
Posted by: cjbill, June 22, 2018, 11:53am; Reply: 58
I thought the story was Slade wanted to keep Pearson but needed rid of Boyce first to do so. But Shaun didn't want to wait any longer not knowing if he was going to receive an offer so took the offer already on the table from Wrexham.
