As we have a vacancy for a chairman, does anyone else think he would do an excellent job.

Obviously wouldn't bring any financial backing but would definitely solve the club's PR problems.

Also has some very interesting views on the new stadium

read his views on the stadium that makes sense but I understand him and Fenty are hardly best mates so a non starter even IF he had any inclination

A bit sharp? I’m sure you must have good reasons for your opinion, care to share?

Personally I hadn’t thought of Nigel and I suspect there is not a lot of common ground between him and JF but still, it’s an interesting thought and I’m open to persuasion. :)

I was against Nigel wearing the crown before I learned Nigel and John don't get on. In that case, I am all for the coronation of King Nigel of Grimbleby, if he ousts Angry John then I'm all for it.

Same as mine.

PP is not a good idea. Freemo is. Bollllocks to it being difficult.

I agree with him 100%. JF is still stuck on this idea of out of town developments when the world has moved on and most regeneration is about helping inner cities rebuild. As much as I'd like to see a new stadium, I think the PP idea is outmoded and either Freeman Street or the docks would make far more economic sense and also help to regenerate an area that desperately needs some TLC.

Not a chance...nice bloke but just his opinions on the playing side of things is enough for me to say a no to that suggestion.

Sounds great, I'd love either to happen. But how?

Freeman Street is full of privately owned shops and buildings. The docks is owned by ABP. As far as a location goes, it's a case of having to accept you aren't going to get everything you want. It will come down to finance, an ability to acquire the land and backing from the Council.

Peaks Parkway isn't ideal, but it isn't bad either. It is pretty much in the Town centre, not out of town. The Council seem to be behind it and the land can be acquired. John said he had seventy percent confidence in Extreme's ability to deliver which suggests he has major reservations. I wouldn't hold your breath.

Still waiting for the next announcement that was due in two weeks.......think that was in December.

99% of away fans will come in from the A180 so it makes more sense to have a ground with the least hassle for away fans and the rest of the Town,

The area has needed updating for years so a football ground and other sports related activities would be ideal,

Going on to the bit where they say Nigel does not get on with Fenty  well who does ?

He has surrounded himself with yes men and anybody who says anything Fenty disagrees with is gone pretty sharpish.

Maybe the Trust could give him some shares it would only be fair don't you think ?

My money would be on Freeman Street or the Docks rather than PP at the moment. As others have alluded to, out of town retail is dead on its bottom and there is a lot of opposition to it. The regeneration of inner towns and cities is where the money is.

The docks option was looked at in 1998, and it was decided the only suitable site would be on the North Wall. Unfortunately, the tidal movements meant that millions would have to be spent on stabilising the groundwork for a football stadium, and that priced the option out of the equation.

There are still plans to regenerate Freeman Street into a commercial/residential area, away from the town centre. It's unlikely that, having knocked down the flats, the council would view a football stadium as fitting into that plan.

But it's not retail and it's not out of town. It's mainly housing and is infill between already established residential areas.

Stadium there or not, Freeman Street needs regenerating.

If the council go ahead with any new developments across the borough without a detailed plan of regeneration for Freeman Street, they should be ashamed and hung out to dry.

Note: Knocking down the flats and then commissioning endless feasibility studies does not constitute a regeneration plan.

Not too sure, but it may have been delayed whilst they build a skateboard ramp in Sheffield and the digger can't be in two places at once  :-/

Surely re-development of any area depends on who owns the Freehold to the assets you are proposing to re-develop and, if it's several people, then dependent on them all wanting the same outcome.

Same arguments regarding the stadium but having read nearly all the technical surveys PP is the only one that ticks most of the required boxes including transport. The upgrade to the road infrastructure for the other sites would cost the council too much. Most of the traffic is from the home supporters as there is only a few clubs which bring a lot of support. The amount of land for a community based stadium and additional facilities means that Freeman street is too small and the docks land will not be released as ABP have it earmarked for commercial expansion of its own strategies and income generation.

Anyway onto the topic  - not sure Nigel would want the hassle of everyone having a go at him because they don’t agree with this or that!

The land is only deemed too small if the training, and community  facilities together with the enabling developments are on the same site. It would be fine for a stadium and small business units together with parking.

The training ground and community facilities could be elsewhere and say, the enabling housing development on PP

Give Nigel the job, he would be the stopgap that would stop Fenty from making more stupid suggestions/ comments. At the moment the board just say"great idea John" to everything he says, Nigel would be able to make Fenty's and the board stop and think first.

Using that logic, why not sack Jolley and appoint me as manager?

On second thoughts, maybe not!!

Same thing as happened with the Olympic Stadium. Compulsory purchase orders.

Freeholders in the Freemo area are never going to make a mint from the land now. Otherwise the place would be crawling with developers. The town centre will likely remain where it is now the docks is not the thriving hub of mass employment that it once was. And there's not enough money in retail for there to be two centres in GY - there's barely enough for one when you look at Freshney Place now.
