Looks like he swapping relegated clubs as he's 1/2 to be named new Chesterfield manager.

A bit of a strange move I'd say as the way Barnet finished the season, you'd have thought he'd have wanted to stay on and try and carry that into the new season.

He never stays at Barnet though does he? Think he's been manager 5 or 6 times there. Does well, other teams take him on and he doesn't do so well. Then it's back to Barnet, rinse and repeat.

Lives somewhere around the London area, most of his teams he's managed have been in the South.  3 hour each way to Chesterfield, guess it depends if he wants to uproot?
Quoted from The Guardian: Martin Allen
“Because it’s Barnet, I don’t have to move house. I’ve moved all over and disrupted my family life, and unless it was something quite unbelievable I wouldn’t really want to [do that again]".

Didn’t the Barnet chairman describe their relationship as love/hate? Allen is no fool, he knows the expectations would be enormous after his near miracle but  the budget is minute if he stays at Barnet. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him move but Chesterfield would have to make it worth his while.

Well, he's left Barnet.

Quoted Text

Good Afternoon to all Barnet supporters,

A short while ago I had a meeting with the Chairman to let him know that I would not be continuing to manage his and your club.

It’s been an amazing, unforgettable 8 weeks with all the players and the positive energy and the enthusiasm from all the supporters has been quite overwhelming and I can’t thank you enough.

The Chairman has offered me a fantastic contract, offered to increase the budget and had done everything he could and no blame what so ever can be put his way. For me, it was 8 weeks and I am happy but of course underneath I’m bitterly disappointed and still very upset that we were unable to retain our position in the Football League.

I really do hope Barnet Football Club can now grow with these players plus the addition of Johnson, Tarpey and Vilhete and you can all be proud to be Barnet supporters.

Take care,
Martin

No, hope not, I want him to manage a league 2 club next season, 6 points in the bag for us. ;)

3 points. He'd not last long enough to get 2 games against his side.

In fairness to the bloke, I remember reading an interview a few year back where he was quite blunt and honest in saying that he takes jobs that are on better money for that reason alone.  Of course when he's appointed at Eastleigh or wherever he does of course spin the usual lines about the club ambition etc. etc.

I admire that he's honest enough to admit he chases the money and isn't ashamed of saying so.

Maybe thats why he transfer listed Akinde, so he can take him with him to Chesterfield :-)

Youtube video available of his 1st interview as chesterfield boss. I'd recommend anyone to watch it as its one of the most cringeworthy funny videos ive seen in a while and i feel for the reporter.
Allen just doesnt look or sound happy to be there. Even talks about talking to the owner about pigeons during his 1 hour interview. :-)

Just compare this to Jolley’s first interview and the difference is huge! Michael was attending games before hand, getting to know the club whereas Allen just rocked up for an hour interview.

Yes and his antics on the touch line at BP made me wonder if he might have the odd screw loose. However the  reporter doing that interview wasn't  too great either.

My favourite 'Mad Dog' Allen story was that, when managing Cheltenham, he was refused entry into a nightclub in the town because he was pished. His response was to rip off his shirt in the street and offer the bouncer out for a fight! He was later cleared in response to a charge that he racially abused said bouncer as well.

Not really the actions of somebody who isn't a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

When asked "why are you the man to change Chesterfield's fortunes?", he floundered badly.  A simple question that should be expected.  He said "2 relegations is not good".  No sh it sherlock!

They do not call him  mad dog for nothing  ;)

I liked the bit when asked if he had seen players ?

I only started 15 minutes ago I did not see any players in the press room  ;D

He ia a bit mad but knows how to win the conference.

I expect Chesterfield to make a speedy revovery.

The thing about mad dog is he is mad,

Would I want him to be our manager ,  no way,

BUT

At conference level he is better than most so I expect them to do well.

Unless like a few have pointed out he will be gone before xmas,

If he stays Chesterfield will be in the play offs but I would not be surprised if he had gone back to London by August  ;D

The FA are looking into the fact that the son of Chestefield's secretary stuck £20 on Martin Allen at 25/1  to be next Chesterfield manager, the day after Barnet had beaten them on the last day of the season.  ??)

From the outside Martin Allen appears to manage like a tyrant and that's why he's always a short term fix, and never creates sustainable change.
He'll be off relatively quickly, the only question for Chesterfield is whether he does the business for them first.

That's among the worst interviews I've ever seen. I'm not sure if MA was just setting his stall out for the season, holds a grudge agaonst the media, took an instant dislike to the reporter asking the question but he was so over the top in his disdain for being questioned it beggered belief.surely he would want to endear himself to his new clubs fans but he seemed far from interested in being here.

I get he's a short-term impact manager or firefighter but not convinced by his long-term prospects. If he's like that now how is he going to be ith the players or media when things aren't going so well.

The questions weren't great but there was no need to be that abrupt with him. Bang out of order in my opinion.

I don't think I have seen a worse interview with a new incoming manager. I thought he was totally ignorant and if I was a Chesterfield supporter I would be very concerned.

If it was a choice between him and Slade it would have to be MA.

Certainly gives the impression he couldnt care if he was there or not but he was fairly honest albeit blunt with his answers, Jolley had a similar head to head with Matt Dean not so long back regards slightly reworking the same question over and over....
agree with MJ & MA that if a journalist wont accept he isnt going to get any "inside" info, then than rather repeat the same answer just tell them straight to stop asking the same question and stop pushing the point.

Jolley didn't insult Matt Dean though, he just explained the question was paraphrased and he won't be answering it. Respect is a two way thing and I believe you get more information when you build that trust.

Agreed, he looked devoid of energy and manners although the questions were a bit daft you would have thought he could have explained his philosophy in a more positive way. When Slade was sacked, Allen was my pick as manager. I am glad we got MJ onboard instead, his positivity and willingness to engage is in complete contrast to Allen on the video.

I too would be concerned if I was a Chesterfield fan, maybe he needs a cup of tea and a couple of weeks in the Canaries to recharge his batteries as he has done well at other clubs, albeit on a relatively short term basis. Worth noting I did hear him on Talksport a few weeks ago saying he wouldn't be managing a nothern club anymore as he was tired of moving house only to be sacked a few months later.

Maybe he is just plain tired, not good for the Spireites.

To be fair, that interviewer was excrement. I like the no nonsense approach. Chesterfield are obviously in a bit of a mess, from top to bottom. The club needs a manager like MA who will stamp his authority. Two relegations, 44 players last season, a chairman who talks about pigeons in interviews and a reporter who asks if he has assessed the youth team after being in the job 15minutes.....he must be thinking ‘intercourse me’
