Resurecting an old thread...now the season is over player nominations are being requested for Room 101. Succesful nominations will be struck from the records of GTFC. I reserve the right to be judge and jury on players being accepted.

Nominate away..

Not only was he completely useless but his time here coincided with the Bignot Triangle, that mysterious area of our history where everything that entered disappeared.
However...he had a "mad" reputation and who could forget his cheeky photoshoot walk on to camera ...

nah , who am i trying to kid...he's straight into Room 101.

Hmmm....not so simple this one...
without doubt a classy player...could tie a snake in knots with his twists and turns....despite his passing years...but former Scunny bunny which would be tempting enough reason on its own....

However...that moment...still regularly referenced when any player fcks about too much in our own area....he set the yardstick for shooting yourself in the foot and therefore he has an important place in our records and cannot go in.

another who must stay in for all the wrong reasons....lessons learnt on ...buying ageing players 3-4 seasons too late, allowing players to dictate their own terms   things which should never be forgotten......
plus he scored in a memorable away day at the old Morecambe ground which gave me and my lad great memories....not going in.

No. Long standing record transfer fee and for that alone he has to remain on the records. Β£100,000, 30+ years ago ...i think our entire squad now cost less than that.

Murray Jones ....Bambi....not very good at all.....but... 3 goals in 28 is virtually "Messie esque" compared to the current strikers....also another vital club lesson....dont buy a striker based on him playing one good game against you....vital mistake that should not be forgotten...not going in.

Jamie Clarke.....well...instantly forgettable i will give you that....from the moment i saw him run out in pre season friendly at Gainsborough i was worried and wanted him to go into Room 101 then....
however....he did have John McDermotts boots to fill so was on a hiding to nothing from the off , so maybe some leniency is called for...

just checked some stats...74 games !!  Jeez.... and i cant remember any stand out moments....he is going into Room 101

Hmmm...just his facial similarity to Sam Dingle off of Emmerdale makes me laugh at 7pm throughout the week which is a joy i wouldnt have if we hadnt have signed him...however....our first left back in non League in a completely forgettable first season cancels that out....

but...he was part of the team that finished in our lowest position and therefore is of historical importance and therefore cant go in.

part of the famous Lenny Lawrence League of Nations and for me a particular favourite...i actually liked Menno...cracking left foot , technically neat....so i am tempted to say no..
but...i guess...as he was part of the League of Nations that realistically bankrupted us when the TV money didnt show up, leading to a certain someone "loaning" the club some monies and the subsequent downward spiral.....then i suppose if he never actually existed in our history then....

Some already dealt with....
James Berrett ....well...contraversial i am sure but i am afraid he stays out...has become the benchmark all future midfielders will be compared to, he's a bit like the Plimsoll Line..go beyond it and you are sinking fast....The Berrett Line....you know you are in trouble if a player doesnt reach it.
Matt Heywood ..sadly part of the proof that Buckley 3 was a mistake, also as recent as this season, some 20 yrs after his arrival,  the "Heywood Theory" has been suggested for such  players as Berrett, Vernon, Kelly when it comes to voting for player of the year.  A 20 yr legacy cant go io Room 101.
Hope - into Room 101.
Paul Dixon - yes please into Room 101.
Danny Boshell ...realistically too long a serving player to go in, nearly 100 games so wiping his record could be dangerous despite him being a bit marmite..mind you he who infamously ruined our day out against MK Dons and gave the MK Dons their first piece of "history"....he's in Room 101 for that alone.
Lawson....took some finding but weighing in at around 20 minutes on loan he hardly qualifies as existing in the first place so hardky worth opening the door for...plus he may well appear in an obscure pointless quiz answer if we keep him out

Bungle just for comedy value has to exist.

Iffy Onoura .....scored a few goals in his short stay....another one of those slightly too late in his career signings that scarred that period in our history....although i actually liked the thought of having Iffy Onoura playing for us the reality wasnt that great...semi reluctantly going into Room 101.

Loved Gary Harkins.....one of those players who had the skill and vision but rarely showed it....and soon fell foul of the returning Buckley mid way through his one season with us and released....soon after starred for Partick Thistle, scored a few, picked up player of the year IIRC....
my overriding memory of him was pre season watching him from the upper smiths and thinking...yes this guy looks a footballer.....so for letting me down so badly Gary ....you are going into Room 101.

Did have the pleasure of seeing him score his goal away at Pompey....but even that rarity of a pleasure cant turn around his otherwise uneventful career with us....mind you...if he didnt exist he couldnt have then gone onto Lincoln and have been as unequally unimpressive for them ....but he is a former Scunny bunny too....so he is into Room 101.

Mr Carlton done elsewhere....

Gary Silk ....the no nonsense ginger ninja right back.....one of the H&S early signings....injuries and the emergence of Bradley Wood limiting his appearances and career....i feel sorry for many of the right backs at our club as for my generation none will ever meet Macca's standard...is that Gary Silks fault ? Does he deserve to go into Room 101 just for that....?? ...despite him being a standard average right back he did give us some sharp intake of breath moments when he went flying into challenges and following the hapless relegation seasons a player with bite was welcome....so cant send him in.

dont think i could argue with any of those.....the only glimmer for Pulis was that he was that he was supposed to be the signalling of a new Stoke association between Buckley & Pulis wasnt he ? Ian Hamilton....loan player who scored in his short stay....cant throw him in as he brought a goal....

Mark Nicholls ....city slicker from Chelsea .....very disappointing signing given he had played a notable amount of games for Premier League Chelsea just a few seasons before.....however i think there is something bigger going on here that should save him from going to oblivion...he kind of signifies how damaging the Premier League was to young homegrown talent at that time.....just as he was coming through their ranks and getting a chance Ruud Gullit takes command and imports masses of foreign players quashing the dreams of many young players which is still felt today.....should stay out as a beacon of all that is wrong with the PL.

We have had an inordinate amount of duff midfielders over the years. We also had someone for about ten minutes who started life at Manure, when Hurst was manager. Can't remember his name of course.

Bryan Hughes....Hull loanee ? Seem to think he was ok and brought a bit of a new energy to a flagging midfield.....ok...just had to check up...transfer window signing and only played 3 times ...and on his debut he was subbed for Hudson !!....seen enough ..he's into Room 101.

Conor Henderson ...would like to keep him out despite his less than average record....stands as a symbol of Paul Hurst's general loan player philosophy, bring a player in and then virtually never play them despite the promise that they look better than the regular players.  Not going in.

Numanoid , if there was a prize you would have just won it !!!  (100)(100)(100)  ... Tony Caldwell...my all time favourite vague GTFC player.... 1 and a bit appearances into his career he was deemed not worthy by Buckley ..who had just signed him !!!  Never will my memory of him fade...and although i thank you for the nomination i am not sending him in...every time i hear Buckley lamenting our play during commentary, moaning at the strikers movement or their lack of goal threat ...i always think " yes Alan, they're no Tony Caldwell are they?"  ;D ...that minor amusement is important to me so i cant get rid.
