Seeing as every manager uses the Fishy exclusively for player info... ;D, who do you think potential targets might be, and from what level of league ??

If Macca leaves id like Mitch Walker of Dover has the most clean sheets and is out of contract.  Similar mould to macca too.

How would fishy members feel about a some of the chesterfield players? Despite the team having a poor season, they do have 4/5 decent players who have come out of the season with plenty of credit.

Aaron ramsdale is a young Keeper on loan from Bournemouth and chesterfield fans have been very impressed with him despite a poor season. Possible macca replacement?

Sid nelson is well thought of by his parent club Millwall and has had a decent season at chesterfield. Early 20’s and would be a much more mobile centre back than what we have

Louis reed has probably been their best player this season, a young central midfielder on loan from Sheff Utd

Kristian Dennis-profilic goalscorer over the last few seasons , scored 20ish this season. Would be plenty of competition for his services though

Personally I’d be happy with any of them because they’ve all been impressive and the only few to come out the season with any credit. All young players who have probably learnt a lot from this season.

I'd prefer players who have competed at the top end of league tables but definitely Dennis is worth enquiring about

There's a centre-back at Wrexham, name escapes me, heard he is decent.

I’d go for Dennis but steer clear of the rest of them. I want to see players rejecting offers at either high end Conference clubs or mid-table L2 sides to come and sign for us, not pick up the rubbish that nobody else wants from relegation sides. Berrett, Dixon, Kelly, Rose etc

Jay O'Shea Bury
Charlie Carter is a 21 midfielder at Woking who has managed 12 goals in a relegated team this season from midfield.

It had crossed my mind. He seems to be making a bit of a mess of his career since leaving. Perhaps a season on loan back where he's loved could get him going again.

My theory is that most of who Jolley signs may be unknown to us, after all the time he spent at Burnley and do not forget Crystal Palace along with that means he will probably have a very good knowledge of players that are being released as not good enough for Premiership clubs.
Bare in mind that these may turn out to be gambles as soem may well never have played any league football.

Half the problem now at these top end clubs is they can have players upto the age of 24/25 that never go anywhere. Must be some right Gems there for the finding and hopefully he knows of a few.

I can see us having a very young squad ext year with the likes of Collins keot on for there experience to help the young uns.

We need signings that make the hairs on the back of the neck stand up :-)

Think we just need to be clever with our selections rather than chucking loads of money at players. Accrington and Wycombe are proof that this works. What we do need though is to put our main attention on 2/3 proven goalscoring strikers.

Would love someone like Mohamed Eisa from Cheltenham but would guess he would move up the leagues rather than join us

We’ve got to be realistic in the sense some other teams will just simply pay more than us and have better things going for them such as location. Our facilities are borderline dogshit and the only good thing going for us is a great set of fans with what seems to be a very good young manager in Jolley. More realistic signings will probably be those who are younger from Premier League clubs and have just been released or the likes of up and coming non league startlets. We might just pick up the odd star who’s considered too old like a Disley sort of character. There still is a lot of football to be played in the playoffs which some clubs might choose to retain or release players. Whatever happens we will be the next season like we always are giving the team everything and maybe just maybe we might taste a little bit of football league success.

Don't forget MJ spent some time managing in Sweden and will have contacts there and some knowledge of players.  I wouldn't be surprised if one or two new signings are from there.  Plus, I think he's the type of coach managers like Sean Dyche would trust good y
oung players with for a season long loan.

agree with this, and add in his knowledge of the swedish league, think there may be some very interesting signings, which will require extensive use of wiki and youtube!

4 main areas as the spine please, a good goalkeeper, a solid reliable midfielder, a strong centre half and at least 1 x 20 goal striker potential or a pair to score 25 between them.

How many loan players will start in the 1st 11 next season or can Jolley find some up and coming gems like Fox to drop straight into troublesome slots?

Will he move players still under contract into where he thinks they will be better for the team?

Positive thoughts and good feelgood factor for now !

All we know is Jolley has good contacts higher up the pyramid,

If we sign them early then Michael has got has got his No.1 targets in,

The longer the summer goes on we then have to settle for his No,2 or 3 targets.

Whoever he gets I am happy he will turn out a very decent team that will challenge at the top end of the table not the bottom half.

Joking apart, he seems to have kept nearly the same squad for last 5 or so games. Most I believe were our players not loan.that squad hasn't done bad and to be honest looked half decent against county. This shows that the players are good but needed right management. Maybe MJ is the right manager and as we all suspect RS was an issue.
Posted by: ginnywings, May 3, 2018, 11:26am; Reply: 45
I don't even think you need great contacts as such. There are hundreds of players looking for clubs in the summer. The key is to identify what type of player you want, do your research thoroughly, and get yourself a list of preferred choices, with back up's if you don't land the first choices. If you are lucky, and they all click, you will do well, but there will be a certain amount of compromise. You may not get it right straight away, some will turn out better than others, and that's where you have to exercise a bit of patience, and tweak the team as you go along, adding missing ingredients in subsequent transfer windows. I've no doubt that MJ knows exactly what he wants and will have been putting out feelers as soon as our destiny was decided. He won't get all his first choice players, but i'm certain he will have a side that will at least compete in League 2. It may take some time to develop a side capable of promotion.

John Coleman says that he studies a players character as much, if not more, than his playing ability. I think the least we will have is a dedicated, professional squad of players next season, but the state we have got ourselves into may take a couple of seasons to sort out. I'm just hoping that Jolley is here for a while, and we are not starting all over again with someone else in the near future. We've had more than enough managerial changes lately.

Lived there and have many friends who are season ticket holders. All say he's league 2 material.

Worth a punt in my opinion and would be cheap

I remember him saying as much and agree with him totally. We need players who will go out and give 100% for the team. Its no good signing players of skill if you cant depend on them giving you the effort as well. If past managers at Town had done their homework a lot of the present squad would not have been signed and our present predicament would have been avoided

Ha. I am pretty sure that is where we will be to be honest.
Don't know much about him to be honest, but I believe discussions have taken place - Pretty sure this will be Rhead's last season with us. Can't see us making many changes, apart from the forwards - I really like Green, and Palmer has been a revelation. So I hear 2 decent forwards and a left back is what I hear. And a desperate attempt at keeping Wharton I imagine, who I think is better than Raggett.

Are we talking about the same player that a lot of posters liked but thought was not good enough for an L2 to L1 promotion side? Great bloke, great attitude but he is not Matt Tees or Clive Wiggington coming back. Let’s not allow the quality of his replacements this season to cloud our judgement on this. Much though we can respect Shaun’s contribution to the promotion campaign, we need better if we are to make progress.

Yeah, I know, I'm a pedant.

Surely the pinacle of the pyramid is the Premier League, not the football league itself?

Whilst I don’t agree with it, the logic is pretty sound. It wouldn’t be a pyramid, it would be a pyramid with a stick poking out the top.

Oops, stand corrected. I thought that the term 'Pyramid' related to non-league only. Apparently, it also includes the League and Prem. Silly me.

Kai Naismith leaving Pompey, ex Accrington midfielder.
Scored a great free kick at BP last season iirc

Would take him in a heartbeat. Excellent League 2 winger. Would’ve probably been on higher wages at Portsmouth though.

The side (not the squad) needs a more athletic and pacey centre half alongside Collins, a genuine holding midfielder who can screen the back 4 and make interceptions and tackles, a midfielder who’s going to get beyond the strikers and get 10 goals a season, a high quality hold up striker and a winger of reall quality who’s going to create things and hang around the back post when the balls on the other side.

Someone else mentioned Forrester. Decent footballer but a bit lightweight which is probably why he doesn’t suit Evans and his style of football. Not sure if he would robust enough for league 2 and wages and having to pay a fee likely to rule him out anyway.

Yes, he'll probably mainly concentrate on La Liga and Serie A (top 6 clubs I would hope).

Swedens mid-season transfer window is open from around 15 July – 11 August, so the majority of their players will be under contract still.  Season finishes 10 November 2018. Pre-season window opens usually second week in January – 31 March 2019 for the majority of out of contract players in Sweden.

A good mix of ages
Some proven quality
An exciting none league prospect or two
A striker who can score

What I don’t want
Journeymen
Multiple players from relegated sides
Londoners whove never played outside of the london area (a type
We seem to sign and it never ends well might be wrong)
A group of strikers who havnt even got 30 career league goals

Port Vale, midfielder Mike Jones wanted by Tranmere (fee offered). Ellis (defender) agreed  to sign for Carlisle Tranmere..

Would have Jones and Joyce , they can both sit in front of the back 4.

Not sure if it was a wind up, but someone posted that Lincoln may be looking to buy Bogle for £400k.

If he really is available fro that sort of money our board should seriously consider a bid. With a guy like that leading the line for a Jolley created team, we might very well storm the division and have a few lucrative cup runs too.

If only we had a board willing to make such an investment.

I did like the look of Simeon as a clever pen area striker. The worry is how many games would he be fit enough to play? That is the worry and with a smaller squad we cannot carry passengers I am afraid.

Different types of player, though. Vernam did his best work outside the penalty area whereas you'd want Jackson hanging on the shoulder of the last defender. No reason we couldn't play with both - dependent on just how we are going to be playing next season!

Have to admit, I don't have a clue as to how we're generally going to be set up! Hopefully capable of using a couple of formations depending on the circumstances.

Connell & Amond both had average goalscoring records before us.

we could go in for someone who scored 20+ goals last season and him not score half as many here.

It all depends on style of play etc, so don't look at Wiki and think they don't score many goals

Every pre-season since we were relegated I have hoped to see that one signing that will make the hairs on the back of you neck stand up as someone once said. But clearly Fenty is never going to shell out the sort of cash and wages needed to attract that kind of player to Cleethorpes and I’ve given up on that.

So far the response of recent managers here has been to sign what they could get which has invariably been strikers who need shares in Specsavers. The only exception was the good fortune of getting Amond on the cusp of his glory season which some strikers experience and Bogle who the fans bought with OP. Otherwise it is the likes of Matt and Jackson. Super Hooper could come good but he needs the weight removing, someone else to score as well, and perhaps keep him out wide for the space.

So I think now that our best bet for central strikers is for us to try youth with Rose eventually, and in the meantime with some unknowns that the manager has come across on his travels.

The other reason it is so hard for fans to pick targets just now is that we don’t know how the manager wants his team to play. An educated guess would be that he won’t want a Matt Rhead up front and we won’t be lumping it too often from the back. Other than that it is wait and see and maybe we will get a clue from the people he does sign.
Posted by: Maringer, May 18, 2018, 2:20pm; Reply: 142
From what I saw (and the little I remember!) of Rose in Disley's testimonial, he looked to have a good bit of potential. Very quick and looked relatively strong on the ball as well. To have persevered so long in trying to get him a work permit under 3 managers now, you'd think he shows enough in training to indicate he could be pretty useful.

Scored 9 goals for Scunny this year , including one against us in the checkatrade. Scunny fans certainly rate him and disappointed he’s gone
Posted by: Mariner_09, May 18, 2018, 3:38pm; Reply: 146
Hopper will probably get a L1 club then. Crofts has got an appalling injury record and at 33 that isn't going to improve. If we're only going to have a squad of 20-21 players then we can't afford to carry players who are injured half the time.

I'd look at where we are particularly weak as we do have a few contracted players. I don't see Woolford playing out wide on the left nowadays. Sam Kelly is stealing a living so left wing is a priority.

Reuben Noble-Lazarus is available on a free transfer, a lot of Championship and League one experience he left Rochdale last season, is 24, is an ex Scunt and has played for northern clubs so may be viable.

Our central midfield was a huge problem IMO last season. Would Mark Davies be feasible? Still only 30, former clubs are Bolton, Wolves and Leicester. I think he's had injury problems and may be unrealistic for us but he certainly has the pedigree.

Interesting about Woolford. Do you remember when Liverpool converted John Barnes to a central midfielder? He was very good on the ball and kept everything ticking over. He'd lost his pace, but his ability on the ball and vision to be able to pick a pass, was exceptional.
Maybe MJ has this in mind for Woolford?

Get what you’re saying about a Mark Davies type of midfielder but the guy hasn’t played since he was released last summer and by the age of 30 has only played just over 200 games due to injury. Exactly the type of midfielder we don’t want in my opinion.

Noble-Lazarus is a good shout though, and with Dembele, Hooper and young Max Wright that would give us good options our wide.

Personally thought Kellett was their stand-out player in terms of ability but had a tendency to go missing. I think MJ has enough about him to ensure that doesn't happen.

Hopper would be a great signing, he’ll probably get more than we can offer elsewhere though. Doesn’t score many but is a proper handful.

I imagine we will be looking at a couple of the others as well.

Hopper's record is akin to Harry Kane compared to last season's strikers. I'd have him here without a doubt.

Think Hopper would be a podge type signing for us. Capable of scoring goals at league one level but hasnt quite lived up to potential yet. A drop in division with us could reignite his career and he could add goals tp his and our tally next term if we get a big robust lad in alongside him.

Sign him up Jolley

Hopper from a Scunny fan...

Hardworking gets in the way, leads the line, just needs to score more goals. I‘d have kept him now we’re staying in League One, but maybe the management team have their eye on someone.
If you could get him he‘d be good at Lge2 level.

Sounds like a good option as long as we could get a Lincolnshire poacher alongside him. If Hooper plays wide in a front 3 we could use 2 frontmen coming in...also would be could to journos on their toes - "who scored - was it Hooper or Hopper..?"

I'd like to see us in for Dennis at Chesterfield. I think they might want a fee for him though. He is the sort of player that we were missing last season. He is quick to everything that drops in the box and is proven at this level. I imagine most teams in the division will fancy signing him though, it would be a real coup.

Apparently around 175K fee was agreed with Bradford last transfer window before Chesterfield ditched the deal last minute.  In the Derbyshire times this week it says Port Vale have made a bid for him and Notts County interested for around 100K fee.

Well he should be very much within our reach if we are serious, and he is the sort of player Jolley wants. The same applies to a lot of players who he might like. If we have to pay a fee then Fenty should stump it up as a thank you to long suffering fans (but not add anything to his bar tab he calls benign loans)

Dennis is a non league striker; we could offer him a great season as a league 2 striker if, and I repeat, we are serious.

The last time we signed a promising non-league striker for a fee the fans had to fund it themselves (or at least most of it) through OP.

I agree totally, Dennis looks a prospect and if the manager wants him we ought to at least have a go at getting him, it would be a decent apology to the fans.

After seeing improvements under MJ with several players, i trust his judgement and am looking forward to incoming players.  I expect to see a couple of players that have played abroad either for or against him, someone from higher up the leagues in England and some youthful Burnley lads, current or past.  I'd like to see some from the Conference who are hungry and on the way up too.  Someone like Tommy Wright at Sutton perhaps.
What i expect is fitter players, faster players and some technically gifted lads.

We need a good season and hope we get that feeling of anticipation when going to away games again instead of plain hope.  Blundell Park to become a fortress again and an increase in support.

Lets hope its an eventful close season.

Surely it'd be better to announce them early to get people buying tickets early in a fit of enthusiasm. Once sales start going quickly you can build up momentum. Other people start to feel they're left out.

So, that's Whitmore signed up then. Who do we think is next? Would personally love to see Omar Eddahri, but think he is a little out of our reach.

Really like the look of Mohamed Buya Turay, another one who was at Eskilstuna for a while. He is under contract at Dalkurd still though and he cost them £360k, so it is a massive long shot but I still like him.

Read a rumour earlier on one LCFC board that Palmer may well be wanting to leave SB because of lack of game time and that you may be one of a couple of clubs he is talking with? No idea how true this is.

Good impact sub in my opinion. But when he has started he has been completely anonymous.
I am glad he wants out.

During his previous spell with us he did a decent job but not somebody I am desperate see return and since he left us he has had a number of clubs and never stays anywhere for much more than a season which may be a reasonable reflection on his overall contribution.

I know a lot did rate Olly Palmer but I thought he was a right lazy git when he was with us
