I think Liverpool need to be given credit for that. Milner, Wijnaldum and Henderson are winning every first, second and third ball and when you've got a front three like Liverpool have..

The fact that they held a useful Cambridge side means that they are no mugs. We don't actually want them to be easy pickings for Barnet because anything other than a Barnet win means we are safe.

Morecambe know that it will be tough to get anything at Coventry and so it's now a must win (or draw at least) for them against Barnet. They are going to pull out all the stops to get a result against Barnet.

I think we will be safe come Saturday night whatever happens against Notts.

Yes. FGR have nothing to play for in that game. They are not much cop anyway. I would back us to beat them if we needed to, but I don't think it will come to that. I think Morecambe will take points off Barnet.

Decent result for us. Obviously means we would need to get at least a point if Barnet win twice, but not necessarily needing to win any of our last two games and still staying up, we'd have taken a few weeks ago. My personal preference would be to see Morecambe go down- we always take a fair few to Barnet, with London Mariners out in force. Wouldn't wish it on them though, they've done well staying in L2, season after season, on their crowds. Would be a very long road back for them I would think as they'd go straight towards the bottom end of the conference in terms of attendances.

Coventry losing might also help, as they're teetering on the brink of slipping out of the playoffs.  This means it's unlikely they'll be resting people or taking it easy on the last day.

Morecambe need a point to be safe so can either get it at home on Saturday against Barnet, or on the last day against Coventry who are clinging onto the playoff places.

We have two chances ourselves to finish it by winning one of our last two or drawing them both.  Even if things go wrong for us in our games, it now looks like there are more combinations, and more plausible combinations, that favour us, than do Barnet or Morecambe.

That's my take on it. We have a couple more safety nets after tonight. We would have to be extremely unlucky to go down from this position, but of course it could still happen. Morecambe are a tough nut to crack at home and i think they are more than likely to get the draw they need to relegate Barnet and make themselves safe. Morecambe are very good at just doing enough to stay in League 2.

Not if we win on Saturday, or more likely, Barnet fail to win at Morecambe. Morecambe have lost the least amount of games of all the bottom ten teams. They are no mugs.

P1ssed off to see Newport beat Accy. Where was that performance on Saturday against Barnet? Luton can now pip Accy to the title on GD if they win their last 2 games.

I think we are in a better shape now.

Morecambe will be desperate to get at least a point against Barnet - No sunloungers on Saturday for the Morecambe players.

FGR are now safe - this will hopefully make our life easier against them on the last day of the season.

Lincoln's win has made it more likely that Coventry will need a win on the final day of the season against Morecambe.

A good night for us, would have been better if Morecambe had lost, but still pretty good.

For us to go down Barnet must beat Morecambe (far from a given) and Chesterfield

AND

We get less than two points from our last two games

OR

If we get one point from the last two games, Morecambe must get at least a point from Coventry

I'd say we would have to lose both of our last two games to go down, and even then Barnet still need 6 points.

Fancy Coventry to beat Morecambe, so 1 point would save us whatever else happens with Barnet..

The endless speculation over the various permutations is driving me nuts.

So from now on I am looking at the situation like two cup finals.   Win one and we are safe. We have two bites of the cherry.

I'd rather we won our safety then have it given to us on plate by Coventry, Morecambe, or Chesterfield.

Morecambe are draw specialists. They might have lost the least out of the teams at the bottom but they've won the least amount of games (joint with Chesterfield) in the division too.

Drawn 6 out of their last 8.
Drawn their last 5 home games in a row.

One more draw on Saturday please Shrimpers.

Being pessimists because of experience though, we have to plan for the straw-clutching and other ways out.

We should just go into the Notts game with the mentality that Barnet will win at Morecambe and we need a win to confirm safety

Cov losing could be a killer now for Morcambe, it puts massive pressure on both there games.

Barnet seem to have a mad dog in Allen who frightens the players more than the opposition.

Having said that I agree with Adam our mindset must be on wining our final home game nothing else matters be another bumper gate lets make some noise for the boy's.

I think Barnet will win both there games theyve picked up recently.  Then coventry beat Morecamve and we just need a point from our ladt 2......this is so close for comfort lol.

We have 2 games to get 2 points.  We have only lost one of the last 5. We are improving by the game. We are more resilient. We are better organised.  We are playing hard until the end of games.

Talking of clutching at straws, I have a sneaky feeling that Chesterfield might scupper Barnet in the last game.  It's the kind of weird thing that sometimes happens in football. Especially if they have a caretaker manager trying to land the job full time. They have that striker that can nick a goal, especially against a pretty poor defence. Barnet would be throwing everything forward and leaving gaps at the back.

If anything like the Chesterfield team that thrashed Notts County a few weeks ago turn up for one last hurrah, it could be very interesting. Everyone assumes Barnet have already got those three points. I am not so sure. It wouldn't be the first time a relegated team surprised everyone.

You make good points on your posts Ron but I think the last day will be irrelevant anyway Town to draw Saturday and Barnet to draw at Morecambe meaning Town stay up 😎

I agree, by all accounts even though they ended up losing 4-1 at FGR, they hit the cross bar twice and the FGR goalie pulled a worldly off...........

Plus 2 of the goals were in stoppage time when Chesterfield would have been throwing everything at FGR trying to get an equaliser and leaving themselves open at the back.

I think there may be a few twists and turns on the road yet! Which is why we are strong favourites to stay up. Barnet need everything to go their way in the last two games. Even then it may not be enough.

think they reduced the prices as well last night.

glad my jinx betting strategy is still working - another fiver down the drain, having staked it on a morecambe win. will be doing barnet and notts county wins on saturday to aid our survival chances!

ps betfair now not allowing me to cash out on my bet for gy to get relegated. hope it'll be the best £30 i've ever wasted :)

It would be ironic if Slade gets the Chesterfield job before their last game against Barnet and his side do the business!

Surely if everything does go thier way it will be enough, otherwise they'd already be relegated?

I meant in their last two games. They could win them both and still go down if we get 2 more points and Morecambe get a point at Coventry. hence it might not be enough.

You dig?

several comments on the shrimpers forum that they played well last night and they were unlucky not to win. good application and plenty of attacking play, so they were heartened. keep it up shrimpers!

Hoping Morecambe plunge never to be seen in the football league again!
Hoping Tranmere or Aldershot are promoted, proper traditional clubs with history, not a club such as Sutton or Fylde!

Not wanting to seem pedantic but:
Aldershot are a phoenix club having worked its way up from the Isthmian Div 3 in the 90s, so not really a traditional club with history. :-/

Town need to go out with the mindset to win the game on Saturday and not think about other results. Our recent form has picked up. Jolley seems to have got us organised, the players are working hard. Confidence should be its highest for a while. I am hopeful we can get some kind of positive result against Notts. But it will be a tough game as they need the points as well.

I honestly dont know if playing teams who have something to play for or not makes that much difference. It can work both ways I feel.

You can argue Morecambe should be up for it v Barnet with what's at stake. But the pressure can get to players. Make them uptight and prone to mistakes. Having nothing to play for can make some not bothered but can also relax players to play better with the freedom to express themselves.

On Saturday most of the pressure is on Barnet. They HAVE to win to have any hope. That can inspire them or be too much for them to cope with. Hopefully the latter..

After they won again last week they would have walked off the pitch feeling positive about the next games only to find out Town had picked up an unexpected 3 points. That must have been a hammer blow to them mentally as well as a massive boost to the Town players.

Fingers crossed either Town and/or Barnets results go our way on Saturday and we dont have to go into a pressurised last day.

Being even more pedantic, if you say they are a phoenix club then they are by definition an old traditional club. The phoenix dies and is reborn, so it's the same thing not a new thing.

Aldershot were reformed after going bust because of the fans. They wanted to keep the history alive. Otherwise they'd have just copulated off and done something else. What makes a club is its members.

That's very encouraging because Cambridge are a pretty good side in good form. So if Morecambe are playing at that level, and are also highly motivated for Saturday's match, then it is a tough ask for Barnet.

Morecambe are pretty hard to beat at home in normal circumstances. In this situation even more so. I would be amazed if Barnet beat them.
