Chesterfield board announce a clearout of the backroom staff announce tomorrow.
Welcome to three points Barnet.

You really believe they could beat Barnet with their current backroom staff?

It might work the other way - someone new comes in and there is a bit of passion about the place, players fighting for contracts etc

Their chairman the other day talking about cutting the playing budget by £1m this summer.Should we make a move for Dennis?
Posted by: IlkleyMariner, April 22, 2018, 9:15pm; Reply: 7
Dennis almost went to Bradford City on deadline day.
He will be well out of our price range, but he certainly does have an eye for goal.

I hope we don't pick anything from this carcus

Relegation leaves a stain which can take years to be removed. Rather we went for people who have experienced success at this or a lower level.

A winning mentality and attitude is what's needed imo

Dennis is a poacher. Players are expected to contribute more to the team nowadays. Similar to Ross Hannah.

This...Despite his goals Chesterfield fans have been strongly critical of his effort and work rate..especially when they played us!!

Really, I wouldn't give a toss if they won 10-0 (as long as it doesn't impact on our situation) one good game in a season of mainly dross I wouldn't want hardly any of their players for next season if I was a Chesterfield fan, and the same applies here, even if we stay up most of our squad should be shown the door.

Why talk about Jack Lester on the coaching staff ? Enough has been said about ex players coming back eg Wilko. What Jolley wants Jolley will get .

So the team that may finish 3rd or 4th from bottom (at best) would take a coach from the club that may well finish bottom....recipe for success that  :o

My point wasn't so much that he's an ex player but that he has a good relationship with Jolley

Good coaches don't always make good managers (Sammy Lee, Brian Kidd, Mike Phelan etc). He was massively rated as a coach at Forrest

Went to the same school perhaps but not in the same year.

Know one another but never really 'mates' as such so I understand

I thought the lad Kellett , the one with a bandage on his arm had a decent game against us, but I think he might be on loan from Wigan or someone in that neck of the woods.

Hard to disagree mate. But you'd need to partner him with someone who could hold the ball up and bring others into play. And run the channels, strong in the air and physical. That for me is why Lenny and Hannah were a good partnership the league below. They both had strengths and weakness's. Lenny's finishing a weakness, all round game better than Ross's. But Ross was a natural finisher, they complimented each other.

A point for them at Barnet secures our safety. So if the players and caretaker manager are putting themselves in the shop window it might well be a very good thing for us.

I can't imagine many managers beating a path to the door of the Chesterfield dressing room based on one game at FGR no matter how they got on so would doubt many being at that game considering how shite they have been for most of the season.

Jolley beat a path to ours

Depends how desperate for a job people are

It would be in Chesterfields interests to relegate Barnet, as we would be a bigger threat to them in non league. Whether their players feel the same way is debatable.
Posted by: Abdul19, April 23, 2018, 4:33pm; Reply: 39
Also, they're rubbish. If they were able to turn on form at will they wouldn't be bottom of the table.

They are, but on their day they can still grind out results. Recently they hammered Notts County, came from 2-0 down to draw at Morecambe, and were very unlucky to lose against us.

They also have a natural goal scorer, so can always nick a goal.

So it's not a certainty that they will lose at Barnet.

Not so sure about this as Barnet have been Conference/National League Champions three times........they find a way to bounce back whereas some clubs just keep on falling.
Stockport County
York City
Torquay United
Southport
Darlington
Boston United
Kidderminster
Chester
Barrow
Hartlepool
Halifax
Leyton Orient
Wrexham
“Traditional” League clubs.....mostly northern.....not returning to the EFL anytime soon.
Maybe Tranmere Rovers will join Macclesfield in returning, or will it be another rich man’s plaything in AFC Fylde?

Christ that is a truly frightening list.imho they need to get a good conference boss or one of the best of the conference  North managers. I feel sorry for them. They might have thought the last 6-9 months were bad but they've got a whole lot more misery to go througj

Aye. Remember how a lot of us Town fans were when we went down. I really empathise with the poor buggers, and hope to God we won't be with them.

Mind you, some nice days out.  ;)

Shaun Derry
Robbie Neilson
Michael Brown
Alan Stubbs

Crikey awful list.  Didn't Chesterfield witness our winless run.  They need someone whos done well like thr guy at Sutton or Dover.

From the link:
Russell Slade – He has recently left Grimsby Town but could be the perfect replacement for Jack Lester. Slade has vast amount of experience as a manager. He has won League One manager of the year twice, once for Yeovil and once with Leyton Orient where he guided them to 3rd and took them to Wembley. With his impressive CV, will Slade be able to bring Chesterfield back to the Football League?

This has to be a joke right?

If Slade goes there, it's worth a punt on them only staying in that division for one season. Local derby for them against Alfreton the following season.

If we do go down I hope they do appoint Slade. Be one less rival to worry about. He could take some of his signing at Town across with him.
