Very good player if he still has something in the tank.

isn't he just a carbon copy of Woolford? old, former scunny winger who was decent once upon a time?
If so doesn't say much about jolley's opinion of woolford!

ps did mcsheffery play for cov in that famous victory which got strachan sacked?

Having a good shot is not something you could accuse any of our other players of, so might be a decent addition, providing there is some truth in this.

He's scored 124 goals in his career. Not too shabby for a winger.

I imagine he will have a fair few assists as well.

Wonder if we have a pensioners trip to Morrisons for them on a Wednesday.

He'd fit in playing wide in a front 3 as well wouldn't he? Jackson central with Wilks and McSheffrey off him?

He could be our super sub, been a decent player in his day, let’s hope his experience can push us over the line to safety.

Those 3 aren’t good enough for Grimsby boro never Mind Grimsby town , I can’t wait to forget them and their dire performances

With not many games left this is a great move. He has been a top player and is full of experience, something we right now.

I reckon he's a better bet than Lee Freckington is at Lincoln

I'd take blooming Craig Disley in until the end of the season too, if we was looking for experienced personnel that could keep us going in the Football League. Think he is signed to Alfreton though isn't he.

It's just about seeing the season out to safety this year.

According to the articles listed below, McSheffrey had 5 assists in 11 games during his time at Doncaster during the 2016–17 season, also several while on loan in the 2015–16 season.  (thumbup1)

Player in South, family in North. Scored 2 in 11 for them and he averages a goal every 4 and a bit games, with plenty of assists. Only thing is his age. Has he still got the legs?

Imagine he will improve our crossing and free kicks no end though.

Free kicks that don't sail over our players heads? And.if he takes a good corner the team's improved by 50% already ::)

Don't bet on it. Players seem to pretty much lose the ability to put in decent crosses and set pieces the second they sign for us.  :(

As we can only take each game at a time then keep them at bay for 60 minutes on Saturday then bring him on to score/create the winner.

So, now we have 4 ex scunny players on the books, who'd ever have thought that would happen...our once great club employing the lincolnshire rivals cast offs, is it just a sign of the tines or are we only scanning the local area to attract players that have an easy commute...not that I am bothered either way, maybe getting Mcsheffrey through the door could lead to Mcallister getting a start....my real concern is that we don't just employ more journeymen, would rather see young up n coming stars of the future who play for the love of the game, not just for the love of the next mortgage payment...

It's almost as if we've been at least a division below them for 13 years and can only sign free agents (and we signed one who'd been playing in Sweden last week!).

We will have to trust Jolley's judgement on this one. He did say that any players he brought in would have to hit the ground running so it's safe to assume he will have been keeping himself fit especially seeing as a poster said he had been training with Doncaster prior to training with us.
Posted by: Swansea_Mariner, March 15, 2018, 4:31pm; Reply: 50
Let's be honest the board tied the new managers hands behind his back before he even started by failing to act during the window.

Jolley is obviously doing  the best he can to change it up but the options out there are limited. That said sounds a decent short term signing so looking forward to seeing him at Swindon.

Sheffa has the experience needed if he can deliver a decent cross and good shot he gets my vote. Hopefully, he can give us a better dead ball option than we have at the moment.

Welcome aboard Gary.

Not a problem for me these players know the terrain and played at a higher level to us. It works both ways they check out our players and loanees Conor Townsend for instance, Works for me anyway as long as it is not another Peter Beagrie lol

We nearly all want "up and coming stars" but we are outside of the transfer window! We are very limited who we can sign; in addition we need newcomers who can cope with the situation we find ourselves in and a good experienced pro seems to fit the bill.

It will be an entirely different recruitment situation in the close season, or at least I hope it will with proper footballers, young and hungry and the best from the leagues below.

It will be interesting to see if we do survive whether Fenty (assuming he stays) will fund a new squad full of the type of players you want, and make a genuine attempt to influence footballing fortune he often refers to.

Reading the piece on the telegraph site (with input/insight from the Scunny Telegraph), it looks like McSheffrey's played more as a no.10 in recent years.

I'd expect him to be starting on Saturday.

Will be interested to see where we use him, whether we change our shape to fit him in as a straight forward no.10 or whether he'd fit into Clifton's role from last week (starting wider but coming infield as one of two no.10's in possession). This could allow Clifton to play in central midfield maybe?

If he's still the player he was at Scunny a couple of years back, it'll be a good signing. Was only last year he was playing against us when Donny smashed us at BP too.

Think he'll play number 10 for us and has always had a good set piece from him so it's up to him to see if he can win himself a contract extension next year.

Another corner in the first video, 57 seconds in for a 1–1 equaliser for Donny against Colchester.

Watch the second video of Donny against Orient from 1:20 seconds onwards, the striker misses a sitter from a good cross from McSheffrey and then there's two assists from McSheffrey, one from a really good corner.

Third video against Notts County, 1:42 seconds onwards - a quick counter attack from a corner, McSheffrey runs half the pitch at pace and plays a through ball beyond the incoming defender for the Donny striker to put into an empty net.

We're in a full on relegation battle and lets face it, one or two current players may perhaps be wishing they weren't here. By contrast, he knows the situation and it was he who instigated things with MJ.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if he's still got anything to give, but it seems he wants to be here and to show he's not finished yet.

Really hope it works out for him ..... and us.
