We could drop another place in the table tonight as Morecambe play the first of their 3 games in hand on us.

As long as they avoid defeat they'll go above us.

So, for the next 10 hours or so, I'm an Accy fan, a bit like when they played Barnet the season we were relegated.

I remember watching out for that Accy-Barnet game and being delighted when Accy won to give us hope.

Funnily enough it was Billy Kee, on loan at Accy at the time, who scored the winner for them. And he's back there now banging the goals in this season so could be our friend again.

Didn't a few hundred Town fans go to that game and sat in the home end to give Stanley a little extra support for that Barnet game?
Posted by: Abdul19, March 6, 2018, 1:01pm; Reply: 3
Yeah that was an odd night! There was probably 70 or 80 Town fans there and about 20 Barnet!

Yeah remember it well. Accrington fans were great- we sang their songs with them all night. Weird but a good night, supporting town in a really indirect way! Pity our players couldn't do their bit..

One of my favourite ever football evenings. Back then I grew a bit of a bond with their ultras and they welcomed us all in the home end for their game v Barnet. The scenes when Accy scored was brilliant. I still reckon their was more grimsby than Barnet their.

I remember the Accy fans doing a conga with hi-vis vests on and singing "all stewards are gay"  ;D

I think that night was the first time I'd heard the "I am a Stanley fan" chant to the tune of the Sex Pistols Anarchy in the UK which we later adopted when we were in The Conference.

Yes and their song was all about the tax man if I remember rightly...

Hopefully Podge and co can sink Forest Green tonight as well.  We could do with FGR and Crewe to start getting sucked back into it soon.

So far a good night for Town but we still have to do our part by picking up the odd win.

It's a bit much to hope that Morecombe will loose all three games in hand, but losing a couple would at least keep them in the mix.

Shrewsbury winning and on target for a clash with Lincoln at Wembley.

Chester losing 0-2 at home.......all not going well for Biggy.

Looks like both Torquay and Chester could be relegated this season.

Please don't let us end up there again.

FGR have equalised.

I was hoping they would lose by 7 goals tonight so that we could go above them on goal difference.

Shame FGR got a point but can't moan about 5 points out of 6 being dropped. It'd be nice if we could start not dropping any though!

Would it help if i reassured you by saying...dont worry,  there is no reason why the squad cant go on and gain another 20 points to ensure safety  :)

If this team gets another 20 points this season then I’ll do a Johnnyboy and put a hot dog sausage up my bottom. No chance of it happening!

All the teams down the bottom are being very accommodating and losing regularly. Pity we have been so sh1te- even a couple of wins in the last 15 would have seen us well clear.

I don't think FGR are in the relegation mix at all anymore.

Last time a miracle occurred and we actually won a game, it against them. At that point we had 32 points and they had 19.

They are heading well away from us I'm afraid.

For anyone interested in wallowing in the full horror of our recent form, this is an excellent site...

https://www.flashscores.co.uk/football/england/league-two/

It shows the form over 5, 10, 15 and 20 games, all of which we are bottom of, plus 25 and 30.

It is shocking to see.

Still, that is behind us now. We are due a win and Port Vale are the team to do it against. They have only managed 7 points in the last 10 games.

FGR strengthened in Jan. We erm didn't.

Who'd have thunk it, bringing in better players when you are in trouble. Why didn't we think of that?

Yes. Even worse is the fact that FGR's 10 men outplayed us in the second half of that game, even before they strengthened. The writing was on the wall even then.

Our dire position is entirely self inflicted.

How do we know it was a false economy and not just a decision by Slade.  He seems to have been a terrible judge of players

3 goals away from home is the stuff of dreams here at GTFC, sadly.

Reid and Diodge would have a been a expensive pairing to bring in but paying dividends I don’t class them as in a relegation fight their safe

I think that hits the nail on the head. Most clubs in League 2 couldn't splash the sort of cash FGR have and have to turn to other more risky means of ensuring survival.

With the amount of money FGR will end up spending this season, it would be ridiculous for them to be relegated. Amusing, yes, but ridiculous.

Throwing money at a problem doesn't always make it work, but it certainly helps.

On the other hand, selling/getting rid of many of your better players when in a relegation scrap doesn't tend to improve things. Funny, that.
