Why were so naive with Slade ?

Yes another Slade thread and another thought to ponder with our wonderful board on how were they so naive to let a guy back into the club with a history of signing a raft of absolute dross. It made me wonder in his first spell how many Slade signings actually worked and how much money he wasted or loans that didn’t work out. Here’s a list of players signed by Egg Head, I’ll leave a tick next to the ones who I think worked out or at least played half decent whilst here. Ask yourself - how many of these players were not only poor but the signings made little sense either. Some were past it - some were just not needed and added to positions we already had good depth in. Some of the loans felt as if we were bringing in random players for the sake of it. Some were extremely poor options at replacing departing players with ones who clearly weren’t up to the level. Downey, Marcelle, Barwick, Palmer, Goodfellow, Taylor, S.Slade in particular made little sense to me.

He signed 41 players, and of that I can only say that 13 impressed me enough to tick. Now compare it to the players he signed in his second spell.

On this list alone he should not get a job in the EFL again.

You could probably perform the same exercise with other managers and get similar results. Most signings tend to be duds.

Yeah I think you'd expect to get a 50-50 rate with most manager's. And I'd give several more ticks than you have.

I don’t think we could ever stop talking about his managerial career at gtfc

I think his first set of signings produced good results on the whole and his second set didn't. I don't think players who've been at GTFC for a month (or about 2 hours in the case of Russ' son, Steve) can be judged on the same criteria as players on 2 year contracts - it's a bit simplistic although I get the point. I liked Matt Harrold though!

I’d take a bunch of players that aren’t deemed good enough, but get us in the lg2 playoffs!

Reading the title I thought it was going to say he had gone back to school teaching and said in his interview that he would look after the schools under 7's, that's as far as his coaching abilities he should be allowed to coach.

Leave it out he still stands the chance of another pay off

When he came back he said he had "unfinished business". I think he's finished it this time. He's completely knackered us up.

It would be very interesting if Slade was to do an interview with Matt Dean where similar to a court case he had to answer all the questions completely honestly, think there would be some very interesting answers, some that would be eye opening in the running of the club and insight into Slade's thinking.

I find it all a little strange that Slade has been quiet since his sacking, I thought he might have at least said he tried or it didn't work or something along the lines of the usual soundbites 🤔

I couldn't give a flying fig about the man. I hope I never see or hear from him again.
