Most businesses have contingency and succession plans. If a key member of staff leaves or has to be fired suddenly they know exactly who steps into the breach, and who their key targets are.

Slade had his day, so did Buckley, but Buckley's day was so long ago it was before any of the players were born.

Let me tell you, there isn’t a single person that follows Grimsby that is a bigger fan of Alan Buckley than what I am. He is my all time favourite person in football. A player that idolised from when I was the age of 4, where I watched him score goals for for fun at Fellows Park for fun. As a manager at Walsall to. Then when my parents moved us to Lincolnshire, we started to watch Grimsby, then to my delight he became Grimsby’s gaffer.

But can I just say right here and right now, I categorically would not want Alan as our long term manager again. Absolutely not.

However, since the team is the team now for this season, if Slade got the bullet, I would have no problem at all with Alan steadying the ship for a while, in a caretaker capacity, why we go in search of a new permanent manager. Whether that be a two week spell or even until the end of the season. However long it takes so the board don’t rush the next appoint. But absolutely not a permanent role for Alan.

Yes I am asking that. He has never appointed a manager before and hasn't worked in professional football for pretty much 10 years. He hasn't really worked successfully in football for pushing 20 years. He'd be a better judge than Fenty but that list of people wouldn't be a short one would it?!

Well dicko, i'm a lifelong Town fan since the age of 12 and i'm nearing 60, so i don't need a history lesson thanks. Known John since he was in the Mariners youth team with my younger brother. I was in the same school team as Glenn, so i know a bit about the Cockerill's.

John was caretaker manager 18 years ago, so what would you say makes him a candidate for the job?

Cockers was caretaker manager on 3 separate occasions 94, 96 and 2000 after being assistant manager, in fact he was the only one as caretaker manager who won games and deserved to be offered the job but it was given I think to Lennie Lawrence.

Cockers was never offered the job and only left sometime after.

I'd be happy enough with Dave Moore until the end of the season. He has the respect of this group of players who don't know Buckley from Adam (no pun intended).

According to wiki he's managed 105 games and has a win % of 37%. The players certainly put a shift in for him away at Bolton last season.

1m 63 wigs, and adopted the boys stand next to barrets at the age of 8, and I do have a clue too with john, as Ron often took me round to Brian Cliftons home down Robson Rd and George Higgins house off Clee Road.Johns a great guy and he wouldn't take the offer,wasnt ready for it, but I bet he would be now>I bet many ex town guys would help out in these dire times, lets see what develops Monday, I still cant see the Clown going,hes here for the duration. Superb man, always had time to speak with Town fans, and what a great player he was, nicknamed Cannonball Cockerill. Crossbars at BP had testament to that.
He confirmed that John had turned down the manager's job, because of lack of money, but the amount wasn't £1 million pounds, it was £250,000.

Yes but unlike an agent or recruiter he would do it without prejudice as his motivations would not be money based.

What's wrong with sourcing a manager from outside the club?
As previously posted earlier,follow a sensible recruitment plan.
By all means use ex players/mangers as advisors but get away from the idea of employing an ex player who "gets" GTFC.
It's laughable people suggesting AB and the like.

Because we couldn’t afford them, and they have been used to working with big budgets at their level.

Caretakers - if he went this week it would surely be Dave Moore, personally I’d get Collins or Davis involved in an interim set up.

The amount of money they've been throwing at their squad for that level, it's a travesty that they aren't further ahead than they are.

Personally I don’t think there’s many appealing out of work managers or any up and coming ones below us that would be interested in coming here after the Bignot debacle.

So I’d be asking either Ben Davies or Danny Collins if either of them is interested in taking the reigns with Dave Moore’s assistance at least until the end of the season. I’m not sure if either has any coaching badges or not but both have bags of playing experience at a much higher level and surely couldn’t do worse than Slade. At least they would have the respect of the dressing room. We might already have a good up and coming manager from within.

Another option could be to give a top ex-pro a first chance in management. There’s plenty of them interested in starting somewhere, Phil Neville and Sol Campbell are purely just examples and I doubt they’d be interested but someone like that, someone who commands respect. It’s certainly working for Notts County with Kevin Nolan.

It’s probably all futile anyway as I doubt JF will be sacking his mate anytime soon.

Will Antwi highly thought of as a coach by Tottenham,did a good job when he was here.

Billy Heath at Halifax certainly has a decent record so there are gems out there waiting.

Only worry is do we have the players that someone can work with. i wouldnt like to see a caretaker, someone permanant would be better to get half the season to suss out what is needed and potentially have an end of season cull.

Why are people interested in Billy Heath? Did well at North Ferriby because he had a lot of money to spend thanks to the Allams. Got promoted at Halifax last season but hardly setting the world alight. Plays a horrible long ball game as well. I would be seriously, seriously disappointed if he came in.
