Did anyone tonight hear the disgruntled town fan living in lincoln on radio humberside , made some very good points about how lincolns absolutely buzzing still and the club do a lot of stuff to keep that going off the field ,, in hard times like we're currently experiencing if I was fenty I'd have them players in schools, colleges,  community meetings , anything possible to get the team interacting with the fans general public anything possible to show these players and manager inc that they have a bit of passion and pride and general concern for this team

Probably the players don't really give a fig, also after a 3 hour training session the poor darlings are maybe tired and need to get home to their PlayStation.

Welcome Elgringo. Didn't catch RH tonight but you have to say that Lincoln had a fantastic season and not only won the league, but had a fantastic cup run which i think did more than anything to swell their gates and get them buzzing. It also brought in a ton of cash which has given them a great budget to work with, so i think they came into the league on a much bigger high than we did, as we only really got there by the skin of our teeth. The upturn in their attendances is impressive but when they hit a lean spell, and they will, how many of them will hang around?

Think there are a lot of reasons why our momentum stalled. Hurst breaking up the squad and then leaving didn't help, but i also think the club could have done more in this regard. Alas, our feelgood factor is totally shot now and we have to start to rebuild it somehow.

If we had kept Hurst, which could have been possible if not for Fenty, we would still have that momentum

It worked for us in the late 70s and early 80s, it would work again if the club could be arsed

The key point here I guess is Lincoln with 7-8k gates when they next hit a lean spell will be better off than us with 3-4k.Of course GY have 3-4k hardcore fans and Lincoln have had a massive influx of newbies but a lot of them will be young fans and a lot dormant Imps who probably hadn't bothered for years.Of course a lot will drop off but they will still retain a load and I don't see Lincoln dropping below 5k in the next couple of years unless they do a GY and shoot themselves in the foot numerous times.

If you're one of their 6000 season ticket holders this season, it's unlikely you're not going to buy one next season. They'll probably be selling them from March. To be fair to them, they've created the foundations were they could end up in the championship. As soon as their Chairman realised they were on to something with the Cowley's he whacked them on a improved and lengthy contract, with a million pound but out. That bit of commitment to the good feeling will add to the confidence of the supporters.

I run a music and arts web site (Lincolnshire Arts and Music Bulletin if anybody's interested), and it's quite interesting to see how many Lincoln Musicians and Artists have got behind The Imps. I don't see the same thing from Grimsby bands, etc.

So yeah, they have got something going, and the public being behind them, rather than slagging them off 24/7 must be a situation John Fenty can only dream of.

So maybe there is something GTFC can learn from them, but so can Town's supporters.

Nothing to do with jumping on the coat tails of success to advertise themselves then?

Fenty wouldn’t get slagged all the time if he didn’t make daft decisions and alienate himself and the club from fans would he?

Out of interest, i checked the league 2 attendance stats and Lincoln are top on 8600, Slightly ahead of Luton, with Coventry and Notts County not far behind. I never thought i'd see the day that Lincoln would be getting more fans through the gate than those three, so fair play to them, they are riding about as high as i have ever seen them. Akin to the way McMenemy galvanised our support.

Much to my surprise, Town are averaging 4440. That level has dropped alarmingly over the past few weeks, and the average with it. So we were actually doing not too bad at the outset. We are very slightly ahead of the average for the entire league combined in 9th place overall. The best i think we could manage is 6th, because Swindon in 5th are 6587. Generally, as you would expect, the better supported sides are at the top end of the league, and all those that average around the 3 to 4 thousand mark are scrabbling around in the middle somewhere, except for Chesterfield, who are higher than us crowd wise but struggling, plus Port Vale who are catching us fast after a terrible start.

The telling thing for me is that the bottom two of Accrington and Morecambe, have a combined average of barely 3100 between them, yet looked far more capable on the pitch than we did. It's those two defeats i believe that has turned apathy to anger. It has with me anyway.

I think the point that most are missing here is the key one and that's a fresh face on the board, adding both investment and ideas. Until a couple of years ago Lincoln were bumping along in the Conference unable to even mount a playoff challenge.
They had/have a Chairman and board every bit as hapless as the Fenty led shower we have, perhaps more so given their unconvincing time in non-League. Then quite randomly an Everton supporting Hedge Funder from South Africa queried as to whether they'd need a hand. Clive Nates was duly brought in, and now look.

I still raise an eyebrow when I think of a Hedge Funder from SA, with no links to a club offering his services (and cash) yet as dodgy as it sounds it seems to have done the trick.

The irony is in the constant bigging up of the likes of Fenty and Dorian as being a fan, one of us and wanting the best for their home town, when a complete stranger from the other side of the world steps in and (with a touch of fortune as the Cowleys had also just arrived on the scene) does the simple stuff, engages with the fans and begins tying up the loose ends of the business side and basically does the job that the incumbent board seem incapable of.
A reverse image of GTFC in other words.

You're right on the dreaming bit, as I doubt the current non-chairman's ego could bear the above scenario, but the club is stagnant with a board of non-engaging plodders who have employed a similarly equipped manager.

Well this is it, a local band has attempted to help the club out by releasing a single called Black & White For You which all monies raised went towards out youth system. Unfortunately it only raised a small amount probably enough to buy ten pairs of footy boots but it was an idea. The thing what I think this club does lack in is entertainment, a lot of clubs from the likes of FC United to Man City have fan zones in which bands are able to perform to fans before and at half time, its a pretty good thing as its involving the community more. Perhaps a fan zone could be set up somewhere in the ground, where beer can flow, a band/spoken word/comedian can splash a bit of entertainment before and at half time. Look how well that mariachi band did at barnet away, everyone loved it. I think Stevie S would go down a storm  :P

Again its not going to bring in money but its something that makes BP  a lot less like a funeral parlour.

It is not long ago that the Imps had a Sunday League manager and a similar team. It just so happened the chairman took a punt on a couple of up and coming young managers from Braintree, yes Braintree and they had a great season last year with the bonus of a great cup run which increased their profile and local backing. This came after many tears in the doldrums. That's the way football goes sometimes, 2 or 3 years from now the situation could be reversed. Scunthorpe on the other hand have had spells in the Championship, a period of decline and more recently success in Leage 1. It needs several factors to come together at the same time and we do not have that at the present time. An undisputeable truth is that winning matches switches mood from negative to positive regardless of who is in charge.

Having seen us play against Braintree a couple of times it didn't a genius to work out that the Cowleys were a class act. It was only Podge's good football sense that got us past them in the play-off semi final remember.

No the side was

McKeown, Tait, Toto, Gowling, Robertson, Clay, Nolan, Dis, Pittman, Omar, Podge

Subs were Arnold and Marshall who came on around 65-70 minutes. Marahall won the corner from which we won the penalty after the best piece of refereeing I’ve seen in the Conference. Podge miscued his pen and it sort od dribbled in. Then Marshall won the ball back and was fouled for the free kick from which Omar scored the winner.

I meant the penno. Podge saw them (the Cowleys) tell the goalkeeper which way to dive and so hit it straight down the middle.

Hope he gets a good reception on Saturday.

Marshall's importance in winning that leg was absolutely pivotal, but it did not win him any sort of role in the Wembley victory on the back of it. I remember being struck by that and just how well he did at Braintree.

Arguably the most important individual performance in Town history. He earned that entire season’s wage in that single hour which is good cause he didn’t do a lot else!

Think that Bob Dorian has some business links in SA and that is how he got involved with Clive Nates and as I understand it he is also backed by a further four SA businessman.

Before Nates became involved I believe Peter Swann was going to invest in Lincoln but somehow Scunny prized his cash away and for some reason were a more attractive proposition for him.

Difference appears to be Dorian's willingness/ability to work with other investors for the benefit of the club.

I heard somewhere that Nates was an Everton fan and some friendly between them and Lincoln from years back put Lincoln on his radar and made them his other team, in a way. Something vaguely along those lines.
I think Swann just saw Scunny as the better, more organised and ready to move forward option of the 3 Lincs clubs, and he wasn't wrong at the time.

Your last line is exactly right, though he's not a chairman I rate very much credit's due, he kept things ticking over, kept a transparent dialogue open with the fans and was busy making his club look an attractive proposition to investors as possible.
They got a little bit of fortune with the timing of things but fortune can favour certain types.

That's right, at the time we were supposedly developing a link with Everton so that they could have first refusal at our better players (if we had any then) and we could probably loan some Prem talent in return. However the link up never materialised so Clive Nates found out about Lincoln then. He also thought investing the relatively small amounts he had in Everton would be pointless with the millions the Premier clubs earned so that's also why his interest in Lincoln started. Ever since Bob and Clive got on the same page the club has been transformed beyond recognition. How long it will last who knows but will enjoy the moment and glory while the sun shines. If we can do this, there's no reason why Grimsby can't turn the corner.

As for Swann, he shook hands with Bob to come onto the board at Lincoln with a view to becoming chairman. But a gentlemans agreement obviously doesn't mean anything to him, hence investing in the Scunts instead.

I think Hurst identified that dropping him was the best way to get him playing at his best when he came back, sort of player who thrived on having something to prove and needed a kick up the bottom to ensure he put in the hard yards in training and in games. It all worked in the end.

I was at that game. Bumped into the Fenty Bros. at half time. I asked if they were extending Tomlinson's loan period as it had been mooted and they said.. "More than probably, yes. Don't worry about Ben, he'll come good". I said,, "You're kidding aren't ya" I then listed all of the attributes he didn't have as a footballer, listed what Podge and Omar had, and added.. "Surely there's someone out there better than him!"

It always sticks out in my mind. A complete lack of footballing acumen coupled with the promise of stick with it, it'll come good one day. That one short conversation sort of epitimoses the whole Fenty reign really in my mind. Lots of enthusiasm, a lack of game intelligence and a plea of stick with it, things will turn around. I admire JF's fortitude and commitment but hope more for the club than he can offer one day..
