I dont imagine for one moment that Slade will be relieved of duties so given the pre season message was "playoff promotion ambition" then it will be interesting  to see just to what to extent the board back him in this transfer window.

Stick - release a couple of players...sign a couple of players ....keeping the wage bill relatively the same.........indicates very little faith in Slade and could be on his way if things dont seriously improve quickly

Twist - release a couple....sign 2/3 extra players over what we release..........indicates doubts about his long term suitability but back him so they can minimise criticisism should he fail

go all in -  release a few, sign a few to replace cover and a marquee signing or two to get the stated ambitions back on track ......indicates full faith in RS and give him the budget he needs to support the stated ambitions

I've just posted on another thread that i don't think we will be seeing a new manager and i'm going to sit back and see what happens in the window. Time for the club to act and get us out of this slump before it becomes terminal. How that will manifest itself, i have no idea, but i want  to see a couple of good signings, sooner rather than later.

I suspect the same - particularly as new signings may be cheaper than sacking a manager.

I also don't think he will be sacked at the minute. I don't think we need many signings, we just need to add some key quality additions.
In previous seasons when we've struggled we have signed numbers in desperation and not got the required quality.

I'm guessing, but I bet we can't actually afford to sack Slade. We're not allowed to know or discuss his contract but what would it cost to pay it up and dismiss him and Wilko? 200k? 300k? More?
Where on earth would we get that from?

It really concerns me that he is allowed to sign anyone else. He should be relieved of his duties immediately and any proposed targets of his should be put on hold until his replacement is brought in. It is clear from his previous (Dembele aside) that he is clueless.

I am also fairly confident that we do have a relatively competitive squad, given the right motivation and coaching.

I seriously don’t think he’s going anywhere!!! GTFC, please prove me wrong!!!

Well if he isn't sacked and I guess we will know after the board meeting tomorrow, I would go all in, otherwise what is the point? The board either want us to make a challenge for the play offs or they don't. If they still feel Slade is the right man, they will have to back him or the season will fizzle out with a knock on in season ticket sales for next season.

If it still doesn't work, we will have to get a new manager in for next season. Yes all this will be costly, but that is the price you pay for not doing it  right in the first place.

Spot on. If rumours of a long contract are true it could be a really expensive mistake.

I am sure there will be a clause in the contract that we don't have to pay the full amount in event of dismissal.Or if there isn't there should be!

thats kind of how i see it SHOULD run ....the sacking of Bignot and replacing him with RS with the announced intention of a play off push this season....then reiterating that at the start of this season only came from the board/JF....so they should either fully back and bankroll or...sack....
trouble is i just dont think they will have the b@lls or finances to do either so expect a middle of the road action instead.

I have to agree and say I think we have a half decent squad of players. To me alotthough ageing we have 2 half decent centre backs. 2 good enough full backs. More than capable wingers providing they get the correct coaching and support. Very good centre midfielder and 2 average league 2 players who play in their. Sam Jones to me has talent and should be upfront so I'm going to say we have a decent striker and someone in Matt, who I've only seen a couple of times, someone who looks a bit more tough, bigger, taller to put the defence under pressure.

Managers don't get their contracts paid up in one go usually the sacking club pays their salary until they get another job, for one thing it's more tax efficient for both parties as you don't have to declare a lump some in one tax year. I was reading an article by Martin Allen recently and he wrote that many L1 & 2 managers only get paid their notice pay and don't get the term of their deal paid up.

The likes of Alladyce, Moise, Pardew etc... get job after job so their previous employers don't pay their full outstanding amounts. However managers like Hoddle and Souness  take their pay off's get media work and effectively retire. Curbishley was interesting he sued West Ham for constructive dismissal and won 2.2 million, happy days.

You would doubt Slade would work in the game again as a manger if we bin him so it could cost GTFC a bit if such a clause has been written in to his deal.

It will be attendances that do for Slade not football. Yesterday we can only have sold around 500 tickets once STH came out of the gate which will be less than £10K in receipts and I'm sure we missed our break even point and lost money,

Sp what do you do lose money be ever dwindling gates or pay off the reason for the reduction in attendances and get bums back on seats with a new manager.

All that said I think Slade is a cat and still has lots of lives left in JF's eyes.

Can you imagine the mess we would be in if we allowed him to punt out another 3 or 4 two year deals if he gets it as wrong as the last set  of transfers 😲😲😲.

If stays which I certainly hope he doesn't, end of the season deals or loans for me only as I wouldn't trust him to get it right.

The thing is not only gate attendances going to plummet so are next years season's tickets. I can see if Slade is still here next season sales are going to be around 1000,that is a drop of around 2,000 x £300.= £600,000 Fenty will no doubt be aware of this,he cannot afford to keep him.
If Slade is on the salary that it is rumoured,it is a problem of Fenty's making and he should be personally responsible for resolving it.
As members of the board were the Trust involved in anyway in the appointment of Slade or terms of his contract.

Walked into ticket office at 2.45 pm. No customers, just 5 staff chatting. Plenty of choice for my seat and no queue at turnstile. The only positive of a miserable experience was the thought of drinking my flask at half time. The gallows humour of God's waiting room in the Upper Young's is wearing thin.
I am resolved to spend no more money on away trips, catch up on DIY and grandkids and only go to Home games if I am also visiting family in North Lincs. Travelling 140 miles just to watch this pretence of professional football does not add up.
Some things HAVE to change. Hurst doing well at the moment but I keep thinking that I was at Gainsborough when Vernon was signed at half time after 45 very rusty minutes. Weird goings on ever since.

The season ticket revenue is a good point. I know we have no corporate debt to the bank but I am sure the season ticket revenue will be used as leverage when we have an account review and negotiate things like the overdraft to support peaks and troughs in cash flow.

Can he be trusted to sign the right players?

Can his tactics get the best out of them?

Can he reverse the downward trend in gates?

Does he look like a beaten man out of ideas?

Does he maintain any respect in the dressing room?

Got a feeling JF and the board have no choice but to sack him tomorrow..

It'll cost as much if not more in lost revenue to keep him as it will to pay off him off..

I don't think fans can stomach another game of Sladeball and he isn't going to change..

So the logical decision is a fresh start.. No brainer for me..

I think he'll go tomorrow morning, it will be the first act of Monday's board meeting. The prospect of a sub-3000 crowd for the rest of the season will push the board into acting now.

No doubt will come down to simple economics - cost of pay off v lost revenues from sub 3000 gates if Slade is kept on.

Does anyone know how much impact Wilko has?  Assume Slade runs things as he sees fit (wrong word I know !!!) and maybe Wilko has little say.  Thus he may do a decent job as caretaker if he has different ideas to Slade.

Anyone know roughly what time the board meeting is tomorrow so I can be on The Fishy just afterwards to hear the outcome ?

Tough one. The cost of buying out his contract (if the rumours are correct) could be very expensive, then who do we get to replace him? It's really too late into this window to get someone else in who has the opportunity to make an impact this season. Yet we are not that far off points-wise (OK performances may suggest it's an unbridgeable gap).

A crazy, third alternative is the board comes out with a radical statement tomorrow. Admitting they've got many things wrong, sorry to the fans, we'll listen more in the future, we'll take you seriously, we reacted in a way that we shouldn't have with local journalists, we copulated up over Stevenage and the treatment of Kristine, JF will write off some of the debt, we'll be more open about facts and figures (subject to genuine commercial concerns), John didn't even mean to call Pete and Swin vile, just stick by the club and the manager, let's all pull together, we need your support, we need your money, we're introducing a raft of new ways to buy S/Ts earlier and introducing shift-worker/exile ST packages, we're sure we can turn it round. Russ will even leave an attacker on the half-way line when we defend corners. It might just work.

Yeah, I need my meds don't I!  8)

Not a good place to be in.
I would let Slade and Wilco go. Give the job to Dave Moore until end of season with minimal outlay.
I believe we would still stay up. If possible, cut the squad to pretty much the bare minimum needs to survive. Use the rest of the season to tap up the next manager using any monies saved to promise a reasonable budget to tempt decent manager/players. New manager and just two good signings should ensure reasonable season ticket sales etc.

Risky I know, but desperate times require desperate measures!!
