He’s better than both Woolford and Kelly. It’s a shame as with decent coaching he could have been a good option for us.

I hope we get some money for him, even if it's just a nominal fee.

If im honest I wouldn't be that fused him going as although I like a winger with pace, from what I've seen of him he's not good enough for a mid table league 2 side.. But then I don't think Woolford is either. Dj and Dembele with the right management can both come good.

Why are transfers being announced by this amateur hour manager on Twitter - where's the professionalism in that?
Posted by: 1542 (Guest), January 6, 2018, 8:27pm; Reply: 8
I’d say it’s because their manager has a good relationship with the fans and treats them with the respect that they deserve!

Perhaps he likes to keep his team's fans informed, you know, treat them with a bit of respect, not be condescending or patronising etc

Talking about deals before they're done isn't very professional though.

( know several things our Club does are not exactly professional before anyone says it, but we're not talking about that).

Absolutely but unfortunately the hierarchy at our club don’t give a toss about the fans

Didn't think we would see him again. Slade was asked about him in the post match and said something like talks were ongoing. Was the deal done during the match and he didn't know about it?  :-/

I would rather have seen him come on up front than that useless pile of crap Hooper.

A two year flipping contract, Slade should be sacked for that alone.

Outgoing transfers should be put on hold as Slade has days if not hours left.

We now have even less pace in the squad.

What a shame unlike some he moved up from Greater London to settle in the area seemed to get his head down and get on with trying to become a full time player.

Sorry to see him go and wish him well.

Is that the same manager who has taken them out of conference South, took them to the 3rd round of the cup and gave Arsenal a game , made them competitive in their league and financially secure to the extent they can sign players on deals longer than 1 season?

Know/heard something Rob, or just a hunch/gut feeling?

That post wasn't a dig Herts, it was a question. I was reading something earlier about him and how he works for free and actually pays £40k+ a year to the club and has paid for the pitch himself.. Although strangely he's said he'd rather the club not be promoted and change the pitch to grass etc. He's happy to be the best none league club... They're sat comfortably in the play offs at the moment. How strange would it be them getting to the play off finals. Their opponents win or lose would be promoted wouldn't they?

Sorry fella, must apologize no offence meant. Lots of cynics on here ATM and I am guilty of making the assumption.

I think Newport now have a 4G or hybrid pitch so maybe if the time came it might not be such an issue. This weekend we see the use of a video ref in the cup so artificial pitches might not be that much of an issue in the future.

I don't think that anybody would claim that Bolarinwa is a world-beater, but, when losing at home as in the past couple of home games, does anyone think that bringing him on instead of Vernon might have given us a bit more of a chance?

Somebody quick, aggressive and athletic as opposed to somebody with none of those attributes and few others.

I’d play him instead of Woolford.

I'm not shouting and screaming, I expected this so the result hasn't changed anything for me and how I feel to be honest.

Which proves Slade is clueless. He’s ripped the heart out of this club. Should not have got rid of Pearson and Disley. Then bought shite in  that wasn’t fit to lace their boots. Never wanted him back. He dumped us years ago so return the favour. NOW.  I also remember when Wilkinson was hot property we enquired about getting him here but he said thanks but no thanks. Right back at you Paul, you can do one too. Oh and  Fenty is the Grimsby equivalent of Donal Trump. Despicable, arrogant, horrible man. Rant over

Do you blame him! He wants to be a footballer and that doesn't fit in with Slade's game plans.

Tom loved his early days here, a player with a smile on his face and who loved the fans. The problem is Slade.
Hard to know how many others in the team are affected by the current setup and not playing to their best.

I've always thought it strange how Tom never got near the first team again after he was subbed against Wycombe ( when to be fair Slade was forced in to shuffling the pack after Collins' red card )

He featured a couple of times in the Cheeky-Tw@t fixures but not in the league, yet following that substitution ( where by no means was he responsible for us being behind in that Wycombe match )  he was just totally dropped from the league squad, which also came on the back of him having a really good game against Derby :-/

I'm speculating of course but I wonder if he and Slade had words and our manager decided to show him who's boss.... cut his nose of to spite his face though if that's the case because imho Tom could have been used effectively as an impact sub on many occasions this season when we've been going nowhere in games

Seems likely we won't see him feature for us again which is a pity... we all know he wasn't going to be a lynchpin for us, but he offered something different and something effective when called upon

Our loss, Sutton's gain if you ask me....

Perhaps he just wanted regular football and knew he wasn't going to get it here?
Posted by: Maringer, January 9, 2018, 1:26pm; Reply: 32
Sounds the most likely situation to me.

Slade just obviously didn't fancy him as a player. The fact that he thought Kelly was worth a 2 year deal indicates his judgement about wingers is a bit hit and miss!

I see that Town have now confirmed the move

Good luck Tom...I'm sure it will work out better for you at Sutton than it has done here

came from non league after 8 years in the wilderness of isthmian league and thai football, and returned to non league (at 28 years of age) after 2 years of bench warming under 3 different managers. that basically tells you all need to know

(sniper)

but also quite telling that the vast majority of supporters would rather that glorious career record be kept in place of Kelly/Woolford who have played plenty of league games in higher divisions than we are now

He's not the worse player in the squad but we could do a lot better. At least it frees up a bit of money to chance our arm elsewhere. Another Dembele is out there somewhere.

I did a scouting trip at New Year to the Nike place to see if there was any further potential, i identified an athletic looking lad as having the potential to be a decent prospect, when i approached him to see if he would be interested in turning pro he called security and i was escorted off the premises.
By the time the police arrived i had realised i was at a Nike Outlet not the Nike Academy , a quick apology and a contribution to the Chief Supers charity fund later i was on my way.
