Trying to work out why people seem to be against Wilko, he does not pick the team nor the tactics and i think he has come in for some abuse thats caused by the manager being inept.
For all we know he could be an excellent assistant or even manager but like i said its not him who tells the team how to play.
I would be happy for him to take the reigns till the end off the season if Slade does the honorable thing.

I await the huge amount of red crosses.

Rubbish!! He helps train the players, a lot signed on his recomendation, i dont care if he has "history" with town, it isnt working and he is just as culpable as slade

Well Wilko is guilty by association at the very least to helping serve up an unpopular style of football yielding mediocre results.

I've often thought the same thing.

If/when Slade gets the boot Wilko might be a good short term replacement.  He's probably just as p1ssed off as we are with the tactics.

Let's just look at the players who've come in on Wilko's suggestion;

Kelly, Hooper, Killip. DJ is the only decent one

I don't want Wilko allowed to spend any money or having an input on signings when his first recommendation this season was Sam Kelly. Kelly wouldn't cut it at NL level.

Have you seen how bad we are in the final 3rd, our finishing (or lack of) is terrible.

Slade won't go for ages and neither will Wilco.

Because he is responsible for coaching the strikers, not exactly doing a great job is he,in fact you have to ask what exactly does he do.

Surely Hooper was Slade's call since he was training with us for a few weeks prior to him offering him a 2 year deal. Wilko might have recommended we have a look at him but RS made a call after seeing him every day for a 2/3 weeks.

I’ve always got the impression that Wilko is an arrogant @rse. I was at the Winterton Rangers pre-season game and he was in charge of a GTFC XI and witnessed him berating and screaming at a young linesman all game as if he were Jose Mourinho. I felt embarrassed for him.

Was he even Slades choice, or an attempt by the club to bring in a local connection? He's not really done a lot in the game as a coach before this season. The fact is, we just cannot score goals and they are both to blame for that. Recruitment and training are the two main planks of their trade and it isn't going well is it?

Are they good enaough to coach?

And he brought in a couple of suspect signings but a couple of decent ones but again are they poor because of the tactics used by the manager?

I really dont see Wilko using long ball tactics, lets face it he will not have played in many teams that employed the long game.

Is he? Why, because he was a striker himself?

Why do people think Wilko only coaches strikers and Paul Hurst could only coach defenders? Yeah they'll have a bit of specialism with a position they played themselves, but they can coach teams overall - as you have to, to gain the qualifications they've done and get the jobs they've had.

Aside from that, an Assistant Manager is going to try and coach the team to play in the way the Manager wants to. Who knows if he would be a good Manager, or even if he would be higher thought of by some if he was an Assistant to a different Manager playing a different way.

This struck me at the time too. He had very little input at the forum,no interaxction of any note with the manager and finally had some information dragged out of him when requested but looked like he didn't want to be there when Slade went into full Matt-Dean-berating mode.
Maybe he's not happy with the setup but is seemingly content to sit back and watch the club limp along aimlessly like the rest of the GTFC staff.

So.. He's not very good at interviews. So what? He will be responsible for building and putting out a football side to compete in the league, not I'm a celebrity get me out of here.

Bignot was brilliant at interviews but crap at managing a football team.

Think this is a bit unfair - Mourinho's assistant routinely escapes censure when Man Utd "park the bus". The manager is paid to take the final decisions.

For those hoping for Slade's imminent departure, Wilko is the only realistic candidate to replace him - given his familiarity with the squad and January being with us. Unlikely to happen IMO, and I've no idea if PW would be better anyway....but he'd be fairly hard pressed to do much worse.

If things are going wrong a manager needs a strong number 2, to tell him so and not be a yes man.

Alan Buckley had a great working partnership with Arthur Mann and said they both bounced a lot of ideas off each other. Coincidentally once Mann stopped working with Buckley then AB never seemed to achieve the same success.

Same thing happened with Clough

If any team wins a game 5-0, how often does the assistant manager do the after match interview. The manager has to take both the praise and the flack. (One day Slade will do an after match interview after a 5-0 win)

Please let me know when we've got a team capable of winning 5-0! Rarely do we score 5 in a month, let alone a game.

Codger, I didn't say his 5-0 win would be at town.
