Before we know it 2018 will be upon us. What would everyone go with on New Years Day?

Killip

Davies
K Osborne
Clarke
Kelly

Dembele
Summerfield
Clifton
DJ

Cardwell
Matt

Subs: Warrington, Collins, Rose, Berrett, Woolford, Hooper, Jones

I noted Clifton was out warming up with the substitutes pre-match and reports are he's played well when given a chance in the trophy. I suspect Mills will be injured and Kelly has to be a better option at left back than Dixon.

Cardwell deserves a start and a knackered Matt, DJ and Dembele are better than the alternative!

Dixon is better than kelly.  Firstly dixon is a left back, albeit it a much maligned one.

And secondly Kelly isnt someone i wanna see in the gtfc first team again in a hurry, and most definitely not at left back.

It will definitely be 442 seeing as that seems to be contractual, no matter what the score is or what players are on the pitch.

The side he started yesterday looked our best bet so who he brings in to improve on that I don't know.

The Osborne fiasco needs resolving one way or another it as gone on for to long.

We only want players here that want to play for us.

Same with Asante players under contract who either ain't good enough or do not want to play for us need getting off the payroll to allow new players in so get on it Slade.

We are sliding out of contention the gates are falling if only we had the ambition of Lincoln.

A recall for Osborne and Tombola with the latter starting up front with Matt to allow Jones a break.

Like Slade will do anything radical like that ;D. No returns for Woolford Berrett Dixon and Vernon on the cards, not one of them really good enough.

I think this is the side we're likely to get, although I'd like to see both Clifton and Cardwell given a chance, and you could do no worse then giving Kelly a chance at left-back as Dixon isn't good enough.....whatever the result Slade needs to grab the bull by the horns and demands Osborne returns by the weekend.

Hasn't he always played either one of Matt or Vernon, and never them both together.

Yep, last 21 league games (since Matt signed)

The subs have been imaginative though, one has replaced the other 13 times.

Seen as we’re terrible at scoring and Rose seems to be able to actually stick it in the net, then he’s gotta be playing for the time being.

Is there time to get anyone new in?
Posted by: Mrs Doyle, December 31, 2017, 1:47pm; Reply: 15
It's a mess Grim no two ways about it we have a big surplus of staff on contract who Slade as very little faith in.

There is no way he can bring any more on the payroll unless he gets a decent amount for Dembele who I think his agent will be busting a gut to fix him up at a higher level than a team that is going nowhere.

Sadly, with the current personnel at our disposal, I think we basically have to give the same starting 11 chance to redeem themselves apart from I’d swap Hooper for Jones, as I thought he almost looked interested when he came on

I actually think Jones would be better in a front 3, to be fair he;s not a striker by trade and it shows. However if the 11 you named up there trotted out tomorrow I'd be happy as the personal and arguably the shape needs to change.

I couldn't really care who plays, we'll be defensive with hardly any attacking threat. Will have a few sherbets tonight then listen on the radio, and cheer a shot like we've scored, missus will think we're winning. Oh and my fullest admiration to those going, made of stronger stuff than me.

I think on what I’ve seen in trophy/reserve games kelly is better than Dixon in the lwb role he gets up and down and puts crosses in Dixon just costs us goals and is very slow

The team and the squad is utter excrement. We've tolerated it by buying our season tickets, and of course people shouting 'get behind the team'. I'm sure they're good lads, and they are better than pretty much all of us on the mesageboards. But they aren't good enough, JF and the 'board' have cut corners again, we released a 37 goal centre forward FFS.

Anyway, Crewe will probably hammer us, I'd go for a 4-5-1 formation with Dembele and DJ given licence to join up with Vernon up front to make up a 4-3-3 with the ball.

I'd only go with Vernon as he is slightly better at holding the ball up and bringing others into play than the other so called strikers at the club. Expect another defeat, we somehow have a few points on board, we're having another one of our runs.

Near enough the same team. But have a different approach. Try and play football through midfield and give DJ, Dembele and Cardwell licence to roam and interchange when we're in possession.

Why would you want Cardwell in midfield wide positions?

I don't want him playing there, but I'm just desperate to see some movement when we have the ball. If he pulls wide or drops deep, and Dembele runs into a space he vacates, it's just something different for the opposition to think about.

To be honest I wouldn't play 442 ideally anyway, but with Jones out of form and J.Osborne not with us, I don't think we have enough quality to have 3 attacking players supporting a lone striker. Dembele could do the job in the middle of that 3 but then who would play out wide?

Concerning that we've got A massive squad yet are seemingly so short on serious and credible options.

I was going to start a rumour that Slade was trying to get a straight swop -Macreth for Dembelle, but I thought better of it. Don't want to give Slade ideas.
