Grimsby town have bolstered their squad with 5 new signings. Alex revell, Matthew green, Adam chicksen, Nathan Clarke and gavin Massey have all signed 2 year deals. The club have also announced the departures of several under contract players. Andrew Boyce has joined guiseley along with Luke summerfield. James berrett has joined chesterfield, adi yussuf has joined Notts county, Scott vernon has signed for Leyton orient.

Telegraph saying if Town are to sigh Nathan Clarke this summer they may face competition from League One club Bury.

According to BBC Radio Humberside, a source at Bury has said that Lee Clark (another of his former managers) is interested in taking the defender to Gigg Lane this summer.

I think Nathan Clarke would be a good signing for us. He certainly fits the bill - 33 years old and released by a side that just got relegated to our level. He would complement a back four with a 36 year old right back and a mid 30's centre-back to play alongside. Obviously just the kind of player we need to mount a serious promotion challenge this season.

I know that's heavily dosed with sarcasm but do you think Ben Davies will play more than Zak next season? Zak had a wonderful first league season for  me and I would expect him to kick on next year.

I think Zak will be first choice next season. I also think that instead of signing Davies for another season , it would have been better to have found a young full-back ( like how we found Zak)  to act as back up.

I understand your point re Davies but I think we should also consider Wilko's comments last week about the experience, attitude and influence that Davies & Collins have on the squad, not just match days but also during training.

If we go out & sign a number of over 30's the retention of Davies makes no sense to me either but f we have a squad that is made up of less experienced guys I can accept he may play an important role supporting the management team in the development of these guys.

Just need to wait & see who arrives.

Well looking at Twitter it seems as if Adam Chicksen was one of the players Slade was targeting as Andrew's replacement but we won't match his wage demands.

Slade's interview in the Telegraph suggested he was getting frustrated with negotiations and missing out on people.

Yeah there is no way that 23 England caps, 5 premier league winners medals, 2 FA cup winners medals, 2 League cup winners medals and 2 Champions League winners medals compares to an England C cap, and a National League play off winners medal.

I`ll grant you all that, but what would he be like now in the lowest league, any better than Pearson?  its not all about the physical/ skill game there`s an element of passion and loyalty in the lower leagues that tends to promote you, Brown IMO needs to have that to be successful here

Brown would be a huge risk signing on anything  other than a pay as you play deal, and given his injury history even then we would need to carry someone equivalent to Pearson in case he broke down again.

We don`t even want to contemplate signing a thirty seven year old player,  who ever he is and whatever he`s achieved in the past. makes no sense whatsoever.

Whoever we sign they have to be for the future and not just this season. If we don't achieve promotion this coming season then it has to be the next , so we need continuity in defence ( and in fact in all areas of the side) so an ageing ,stop-gap centre-half should be completely out of the question. I know Paul Futcher fitted that description but those kind of players are few and far between. I must admit I am underwhelmed by the recruitment process thus far, especially taking into account all of RS's experience and contacts along with Wilkos as well. I know it is early days and I admit RS wasn't my choice as a manager to get us promoted but pre-season training starts in 5 days time and the last thing we want are signings into pre-season who are playing " catch-up " fitness wise.

Don't you think RS wants players in before pre-season too?  I can imagine all kinds of problems regarding signing up new players, they are on holiday, they have other offers, they are waiting for better offers, the wife doesn't fancy coming to Grimsby, they are not happy with the terms offered and are still in discussion, etc.  We, same as RS, will need to be patient!

I think it's we've made some pretty decent signings so far, especially Dembele but the fact that pre-season starts in 4 days, with our first game on the 12th and the fact that we keep hearing that we're 'trying' to sign players but aren't actually getting anybody does concern be a bit if I'm honest. Just think how playing catch up has cost us in the past.

I think it's we've made some pretty decent signings so far, especially Dembele but the fact that pre-season starts in 12 days, with our first game on the 4th and the fact that we keep hearing that we're 'trying' to sign players but aren't actually getting anybody does concern be a bit if I'm honest.

The thing is,  if you aim for the high hanging fruits they are always the most difficult to get, the lower ones drop or are easily gathered.

4 days mate

Yes of course! Sorry, my mistake - meant 12 days until our first friendly!

I think releasing Pearson was a big mistake. It means nothing that he has gone to a non-league team. We signed Craig Disley for our first season in non-league when I'm sure a league club would have had him. There could be all sorts of reasons why Pearson has gone where he has but I still think he would have done a good job for us and would have made a valuable contribution in a promotion drive.

2 sides to every story, he's been gone over a month and we are still talking about it!

So ! The Battle of Hastings was 951 years ago and historians still discuss it. Aren't we allowed to discuss something or express an opinion about something that happened in the recent past. I think George Orwell wrote a book about erasing the past!

If it is this Seaborne guy what worries me is it looks like he only played 13 games last season was this due to injury or not a first choice at Hamilton

Why worry, anyone announced that we have signed him?

I'm sure I read somewhere that if Harold had got the Strength and Conditioning coach as advised, Hastings would have had a different result.

I imagine we probably have quite a few signings tied up. League players contracts end June 30th don't they?

It's not like previous years when we have signed our squad pretty much by the start of pre season. When we were in the conference many of the players stopped getting paid at the end of the season. This meant they wanted to sign up early.

Slade is completely open about his love of a free transfer. I expect a fair few to come in over the next couple of weeks, then some loan players closer to the start of the season.
