I've looked at Extreme Sports web site, and I'm still none the wiser as to what they do and how that will support a stadium for GTFC. As far as I can see, they seem to be some sort of events organiser company. But I can't see how that will support a stadium? Can anyone explain for me?

reading between the line I assume the ICE Rink being included was the councils condition of support.  If 50% has been let I would guess that might be someone like GOALS who are willing to take on the pitches, that must be an easy shoe in.

This'll be fun. A big time, forward thinking company, against a small time, narrow minded bunch of Nimbys, armed with pitchforks. That's the mental image i get.

You just never know, if stuff like this gets the go-ahead, along with the influx of jobs and investment from the burgeoning offshore energy market, we may actually end up being a place people want to come to and settle down in. All good news i think.

Defraitas is now on a hiding to nothing as I see it. He either backs down and says yes, the ground goes ahead or he is castigated as the person that wouldn't let a £55m investment go ahead

Exciting news and it's exactly what the hole town and surrounding areas need good for the fans and the club and good for local jobs in regards to employment and things to do for the kids what is not good to be involved in trying to push ahead something as big and exciting as this, early stages but it has to happen for our area

Just on the Ice Arena many years ago Grimsby had one of the best Ice Hockey teams in the UK with a few England Internationals in their ranks but sadly the Grimsby Leisure Centre Rink was deemed not upto standard and it was all lost to Hull. I really hope they can build a decent Club back up again now and another great sport for local youngsters to get involved with.

Whilst this sounds like very good news, let's not forget we have been here before.

There is still plenty of time for someone to find a great crested newt somewhere or a New Zealand kakapo nesting in the vicinity.

Also what exactly does JF mean by "the reference site"?

Hope not.. Red looks cheap and nasty. Neutral grey, black or black and white would look much better. A new artist's impression wouldn't go amiss..

If Southerners (Extreme Leisure) are involved its going to happen, them there boys are far too clever for the backward thinking minority that are against it.

They will come up with the brilliant idea of naming it the Defraitas Adventure Stadium melting the old boy`s heart ;)

Whilst things are progressing there is still a long way to go before it happens, don't get too excited yet. Personally don't feel PP is right, but given that's where they say it has to be then so be it. I guess the application/process is quite clever to an outsider, ie housing, sport facilities which will appease a fair few.  Questions for me are obviously the road network, access, one exit out of car park like most modern grounds, I'd question the need for all the training pitches but guess that's inclusive because of the available funding routes for the club, and then there is the Cheapside (?), BP sale, does that go towards costs or am I reading it wrong in that the 'backer' funds everything? Will Fenty get his loans back, and if so will that mean we could develop a better, more open, honest board? Because, although some don't like seeing it or admitting it, it is a one man show at present, and has been for years. The argument of his funds keeping the club going of course is indeed that - an argument - and can be questioned both sides but that's a topic not worth repeating - what I don't know the answer to is whether Mr Fenty, if can be repaid, walks away or remains? And if remains, at what cost? Will the club still be 'beholden' to him?

Personally if loans can be repaid it would be a great opportunity for a fresh start and approach. There are numerous things and ways the club can improve, on and off the pitch, and personnel likewise. The Trust has personnel who are currently outshining club board in ways of engaging, ideas, generating money and in ways of the club actually being what it promotes - a club for the community. These people, and any new ones capable - should be approached and utilised but not just as and when the club needs - they should be replacing the ones failing at the moment. Should always be looking to improve, individually and collectively.

A new ground could potentially be good for the area, jobs etc, growth, but do it in a manner the right way, not 'mammary for tat' petty arguments, thinking anyone of a different opinion is '(insert whatever name/abusive remark)' used. Be approachable to another argument, listen, reason, debate. If can't agree - agree to disagree.

The trend with new stadiums doesn't tend to be solid coloured areas of seating - two or three colours placed randomly to camouflage any empty seats. I hope we don't get any writing on them like that GTFC though. Looks crap in smaller grounds.

This is all the least of our concerns though!

Extreme Leisure has never put cement on a brick. They don't do that. They offer a service to clients to plan and project manage a development. They don't do planning permission, they don't buy land, they don't do residential or retail, they don't actually construct leisure centres or hotels or ice rinks or football grounds or anything else. They simply arrange things and take a slice off the top while promising to advertise your venture as their own on their site. They may arrange events and act as consultants, again at a cost. They do not contribute to the running or staffing. What you see in the GT today is a publicity feature that might or might not be in that form, and might or might not happen.

Sorry to disillusion people who are desperate for this to happen and see it as part of the brave new world but putting red crosses won't alter the facts. Extreme Leisure is not a developing company. It is a newish company that is looking to expand into a niche in the market that is as yet untested in the long term. The £55m and the 300+ jobs are estimates by them and NELC if the whole of the development can be realised.

Don't shoot the messenger. Look up the company for yourselves and see what they do, that's what I did.

I don't know anything. I am just suggesting to people that they should never take things in the GT at face value especially on something where we have seen hopes built to the sky previously haven't we? Surely we are old and wise enough now after so many disappointments to see through hype aren't we?

Err on the side of caution. Read the company blurb and see that this is their business - hype not concrete. What is being presented today is an exercise to try and get the public onside to the idea and so take the wind out of the sails of Parkway protesters. That's fair enough but don't let's get carried away into thinking this company is any sort of stadium saviour.

I'm  happy that we have got people in with far more experience of attracting interest by way of P.R. etc than  could reasonably be expected to be provided by the Board of a fourth tier professional provincial football team. Isn't most of the issue about selling the site to interested parties? I didn't expect them to be wielding trowels. Indeed I hope that job goes to substantially local businesses.

Yes, we're old enough and wise enough RRFC but i have had a change of stance myself over the last year. I used to think that i would believe a new stadium was happening when i saw them break ground on it.

My instinct now is that i believe it will happen until i see clear evidence that it won't. Disillusioned maybe, but hopeful.

Isn't most of the issue about selling the site to interested parties? I didn't expect them to be wielding trowels. Indeed I hope that job goes to substantially local businesses.

Topcon? :)

Something like Langtree Park would be phenomenal

Three fish on the "New Pontoon" would look smart if the stand was tall enough to be fair - as would the trawler from the badge along one side.

If a new company is formed to run and own this new stadium what will happen to the existing shareholders, and will the LOANS be paid back to those involved. Will we then if this happens require a new board , chairman ," majority shareholder" etc. If it is a new company will existing staff including players be made redundant. As far as companies go nowadays the directors appear to be able to do whatever they like If this is the financial success that is expected who reaps the rewards? I have my guesses .

In the sense of raising the profile of the thing - yes I definitely agree. I also agree that it would be extremely good to see local firms get contracts and sub-contracts out of this but on past experience I wouldn't hold my breath on that one if I were you Barra! ;)

The main issue with the stadium and a big associated development to my mind  is getting proper established developers and companies to stump up hard cash as opposed to promises from new venture companies that owe their existence to loans. If these Extreme bods can  get some safe big firms on board then I'm all for it. But if the thing is started on a wing and prayer with only "expectations" of further investment, then there could be trouble ahead. These enabling firms look to get the local council to be some sort of guarantor which then puts the firm in the financial clear if things go pear shaped. This works OK as long as the economy is reasonably buoyant and everyone plays their part in putting money in as and when contracted. If not, the council ends up with a white elephant draining funds that it has to try and sell off, but of course at a huge loss.

IF a separate company is formed to run/own/operate the stadium, then I don't see how that impacts any existing shareholders or board members of GTFC as an organisation.

THIS:- Surely the words "Separate company to run/operate/own the stadium" suggests just that...

If I have got this right,

It will take one year for the stadium to be built but it will not be ready for three years,

So that's another two years of Defraitas and the nimby's moaning on about it,

I think I will hibernate for the next three years and wake up when the stadium is open and ready for our 1st game,

I might even buy a season ticket. 8)

Sounds closer than we've ever been before ( even though that's not very) let's hope our shiny new stadium comes to fruition this time and we can bask back in the glory of The Championship or maybe even the EPL . UTMM

I do understand your issues but I'm looking at national food/drink retailers not yet involved in the area such as Frankie and Bennys who I feel sure will be the sorts of companies to be targeted. Once one comes onboard then others tend to follow. I'm no expert in retail but looking at local provision of retail outlets such as Bradley Cross Roads where you have Spar on one corner, the Co-Op on another and Morrisons half a mile up the road there must be an element of competition to get a slice of the pie (no pun intended) that creeps in. The other thing I nowhere near fully understand is what is available to the council in the way of funding to persuade companies to invest here-football stadium development or not. What I do know is that North East Lincs needs jobs and those who will come to the area as a result of the increase in investment in the wind power industry need leisure facilities to improve their quality of life. Multi national companies such as Holiday Inn have rigourous processes in place to decide whether it is worth their while putting a hotel in an area. There must be positive signs out there...

mr fenty is listed as a director of 5 companies, none of which are topcon or construction related

Is Blundell park freehold, if so what would the land be worth for building. I note land near Chapmans Pond has been used for new houses. A few million £'s I would presume.

I would imagine the cost of demolishing Blundell Park has to be taken into account though.

OKay sorry to point out a non positive thing whilst we are all high on this stadium news.

BUT if Extreme Sports are here for the PR as many suggest they are WHY is there NOTHING on their website in the news section and NOTHING on their twitter feed.

Everyone knows that these are basic starting points.  If they were there for PR they should have been using this news as self promotion tool and a tool to promote the venture itself, WHY NOTHING????

This is really basic stuff I would expect the club to get right, which they appear to have done, and therefore would definately expect EXTREME SPORTS to get right, think I'll put my application in now!!!!

I think there was a figure bandied about a while ago of less than £1,000,000.

I've never heard it mentioned but Osmond and Main Stand apart would there be any resaleable value on the stands? I know in the distant past stands have been sold on.

EDIT:- The scrap value for all the ironwork must be quite substantial :)

I'd pay a pretty penny for any timber from the main stand. It'll be top quality compared to the crap on sale now.

I thought JF's interview was probably one of the best I have heard from him, 9/10.

I hope that this announcement now gets those minority of councilors on board, how could anyone stand in the way of an initial £55 million development and then an additional £200 million for affordable homes, something this area is in desperate need of.

Today is a good day, well done John.

Really good news for the Town. Im trying not to get too excited as there is a minimum of 3 years to go. But I've been following this saga for over 20 years so why shouldnt we all be excited?
Reading about Extreme Leisure, they appear to be a successful and progressive company so well done for getting them on board.

Seen a few suggestions for stadium designs. I came across Brighton and Hove Albion's AMEX (Falmer) stadium. A smaller capacity version of that would look fantastic. Its in a rural location as well.

I thought Fenty did a good job on the radio.  He might not be a polished, PR-prepped spin-merchant, but he wears his black and white heart on his sleeve and his enthusiasm and passion came across really well.

Picking out the main selling points, it's clear we need to pitch this to the NELincs public by citing the wider benefits and presenting it as much-needed investment to an area:

-  £55m investment into the local economy
-  1600 affordable homes so more opportunities for your kids and grandkids to get on the ladder
-  Sporting facilities for the whole community
-  Health, Education and business facilities
-  A landscaped park for the whole community
-  360 new jobs
-  Something positive for a Town that badly needs it after being the butt of jokes for too long

Get DeFreitarse to oppose all of that and he won't stand a chance in the court of public opinion.  Sure, a number of those living nearby won't want the change, but for lots of people, their objections won't be insurmountable and the developer will be well-practised at being able to overcome them in their plans.

Whilst I agree he did a good job it was filled with jargon that might make sense to some of us and people in the know but maybe not those who he is trying to win over. A stadium spokesperson/PR person would be a wise appointment.

Had to laugh when he said that there are some football grounds and cemeteries that co-habit already, though. Around the same time as the Bury/burry (and Burns' Bury might be more apt comment).

Not building my hopes up after the great coates abomination everything was in place feasibility studies, Big backers like Conoco. plans drawn up of how the infrastructure would bypass the village. A plan of the stadium was drawn up, loads of money and time wasted by a group of nimbys who got Natural England on board to reject the offer on environmental issues.

This latest project hasn't even got that far yet.

Hope not.. Red looks cheap and nasty. Neutral grey, black or black and white would look much better. A new artist's impression wouldn't go amiss..

The big issues for me would be, purely from the football club perspective, is what it will cost the club and who owns the ground and pitches. I'd hate to see us either with a debt we can't service or with rents to pay to someone else and with no access to the extra revenue generating opportunities. It's happened to too many football clubs already.

For the town, obviously new investment would be good, plus new facilities like an ice rink. It's a bid sad that the character of that area off PP will be changed, from semi-rural to definitely urban.

Yes such a terrible shame that a big load of empty space nobody really uses will be gone. People who grow a vegetables,a few gypsies and people who hold car boots will be devastated.
