News: The chippy outside the ground is superb. Not too many here just yet - sounds like the traffic around Manchester isn't great.

Same starting 11 and subs.

Had a hunch that Pearson would be brought back in but obviously not. I know that Gowling & Toto have done nothing wrong but I still think Pearson is our best defender.

I'm sure the first one to make a big mistake, Pearson will replace them, more of an incentive to not doing anything wrong, very clever from Hurst I think.

Can I remind the more reactionary fans that a game is 90 minutes long (at least).  We will not go through the season scoring two in the first ten minutes then showboating until the final whistle.  Alty are a bogey team, beat them tonight and we exorcise a demon.

Have faith, chill and enjoy the ride. x

Fix it Hurst and maybe bring in a couple of new faces. (For striker and midfield options).

Won a good portion of the friendlies with the coach in goal. I thought Macca was a bit shaky last season and cost us 2 or 3 goals. Perhaps he needs to be out of the firing line for a while. Better goalies than him have lost their confidence before now.

At least Pearson is not picking up bookings early this season (by not playing much).  Got to take the small positives where you can.

I've not listened but just looked at the BBC stats at half-time.

Have we actually managed to have a shot on target in the second half?

Don't know, but there's no hiding place with expectations as they are. Not good enough. In fact, pretty p1$$ poor in many respects.

Gap to FGR at the top is a worry.

He was only booked 9 times last season. That's less than Gowling and a lot less than Toto!

I was quite impressed as to how he improved his discipline last year.

Aye, we let Barnet get away last season and couldn't catch them despite beating them twice.

We need to get out and sign a couple of players. Nowt on the bench for games like this when too many are under par.

Bromley never came at us so it shows the players were probably still in slow mode plus its a long drive for a tuesday.  Anyway bad result but we go again.  I hope we see some new signings as its always Mackreth on for Monkhouse lol no bloody options.  C'mon Hurst we need more personnel.

I agree. The signings should have been made by now though. It was a big gamble to go this far into the season with little cover or options from the bench and tonight that aspect has kicked us in the balls. That and too many below par performances. Everyone knows its early days but it really doean't bode well to lose in this way at the bottom club.

You've got to be able to get a result in these games. Luck has gone against us clearly, but we have come up short in the battle.

The only positive I can think of is that its shown us very early doors that we are lacking at least a couple of players, midfield and striker. We can't cope with a couple of injuries as we have nothing on the bench to change games that aren't going the way we want them too. The same could have been said of last season and Hurst did nothing until it was far too late. He's got no excuses this one but I'm sure he knows that already.

It's the same every season , the other front runners always seem to continue going about their business beating the bottom half teams while we always seem to blow it.
We're now 5 points behind already which will be hard to make up against the likes of FGR and Tranmere.

Apart from Mansfield a few years ago most of the Champions have run away with this league from the start.
We are already chasing and have not even played anyone good yet

I suppose, on paper, Hurst has reckoned he's got enough to beat Altrincham, and its hard to disagree. Then the players went and showed him up.
Been saying for weeks and weeks that we needed another CM and another striker. We haven't signed them, and, in the first three games, we haven't really needed them evidently. Tonight, with few options for changing things, Hurst has left himself unable to react to lots of poor individual performances. We really have come unstuck.

The young lads, Venney and Clifton, who are supposed to be very good prospects, are in danger of rigor mortice, if they don't get a chance soon.

After they apparently played really well in pre-season, the manager appears to be frightened of bringing them on.

We've been found out, that if we don't blitz a team first half, there's not a lot left in the tank for the second half.

Personally, I'm just surprised how quickly the blame game has swung around so that everything is Hurst's fault all of a sudden. OK, the buck stops with the manager, but in the same way the players were mostly responsible for the decent performances this season, they also bear most of the blame for the poor performance tonight.

We could certainly do with another midfielder and striker available on the bench (when is Pittman due back?) but the fact remains that we've again lost points due to poor defending and individual errors of the sort which we rarely made during the second half of last season.

Sort out this problem and we'll start winning the points again.

Personally, I think our new more-expansive game has perhaps been a bit too open in the two home games I've seen when we've been lucky not to concede a couple more goals. We might get away with it at home, but 4 goals conceded in two games against weak opponents away from BP shows something needs to change.
Posted by: Caesar, August 18, 2015, 10:25pm; Reply: 202
I agree with a lot of the points made but it is depressing how the match thread after conecutive wins are half as long as the one after our defeat, particularly when on the whole we are agreeing.

There is still plenty of time to turn this round but it is gutting to see our rivals pick up the points while we drop them to teams who are struggling again.  I think we can sort it out as clearly we have a lot more pace power and ability going forward this year, and our defence is strong personnel wise, we just need to translate that into solidity on the pitch.

I don't personally think it's Hurst's fault per se - too many poor individual performances/errors and some questionable officiating have killed us tonight, but our need for another player or two, to enable us to provide competition, or impetus, or change from the bench is really something he carries the can for. His post match interview was fair enough. He didn't duck any issues - admits he's searching for a player or two, and mentioned that he hopes to have Marshall and JPP in contention for Saturday. He knows his players have let him down and he has clearly told them so!

Just listened to the interview on audioboo and thought Hurst actually sounded relatively positive about the attacking, if not the goals conceded!

Will be interesting to hear what the 'Just Back' folks say about the performance.

For me, I thought we looked so much better at the back once Robertson arrived last season that I think he'll help tighten things up when he returns to the team. Then it will be up to Hurst to decide whether East or Tait gets the right-back role.

If Brown is going to be out for another month or two as seems probable, we'll certainly need to get a midfielder in either on loan or permanently. I think the young lads on the bench are decent enough footballers but are lacking the physique to deal with tough away games at the moment so a more experienced of physically bigger player will be required.

For all the same old Town and Hurst comments Hurst's interviews are much improved.  He was clearly furious and where as last year I think he would of just blamed the refs decision he hasn't done that but he has critcised our team for letting those fans down which is good to hear, less of the defeatism that he could be a bit open to last year.

At times I thought Hurst was to bland and soft in his time here.May realize now the weight of expectation this season brings to our fans this season (eg operation promotion) and maybe getting tough as wants a team that befits the passion that town fans have for their club

After all the excitement and optimism / expectation that's been flying around the fans and players , to have a result like this so early in the season may be just what we need . It makes it clear we need a couple more players in and might just focus the teams brains that we aren't going to walk it and  there's other teams who are clearly going to be scrapping for the title over 46 games

Anyone would think we were certs for an undefeated season. These things happen, teams have poor games we weren't beaten 4-1 we lost by one goal and it wasn't even a proper goal.

Hopefully we'll win our next 2 and all we be forgotten.

We are the might Grimsby, Saturday we go again.
