Simple solution really. He lives in Leeds, Mackreth's signed back on (Brown likely to follow). Nsiala is over that way......  They could pick Mags up on the M62 on the way! New "carskool" buddies.

Problem solved. Now, back to kissing the badge....

Well move to Grimsby then if the town and people are so good and save money. Everyone's a winner.

Exactly what I said in another thread, he could pocket loads of cash selling up in Leeds and moving over to Grimsby and no travelling !;-)

The problem is once you move to Grimsby it makes it hard to go anywhere else. Not ideal when there is only a one year contract on the table.

But just talking this through with a work mate, would the car pool have enhanced the bond that the players have?

It's been suggested before but why do we have to train in Grimsby? If most of our team and management live in Yorkshire could we not train there at least some of the time? We live in an era of one year contracts. Players don't want to isolate themselves geographically. If the mountain won't come to Muhammad then Muhammad must go to the mountain

I don't like that idea at all. It takes the club out of the town to a certain extent.

Smacks of franchising to me!

Plus the cost of hiring places to train or risk getting chased out of local parks when we have Cheapside?

No merit to it in my mind

When not selected maybe he would focus on being the "coach/driver" well we do know that he is versatile..............

Might as well call ourselves The Travelling Wilburys - there are a multitude of places to rent in a multitude of locations. I'm a big Carl Magnay fan but if doesn't like it then don't sign.

Grimsby Town is called that for a reason,

Players should train , play and live here imo,

I agree the 1 year contracts makes it unrealistic,

BUT

The players we know who will perform all the time LIke Magnay,Toto, Pearson and a few others deserve a 2 year contract at least,

As a kid I used to watch the team train and then walk a bit of the way home with one or two,

That really creates a bond for a young kid and his club,

That lasts for life,

Seeing your team play once a fortnight is not the same,

Most players are happy to chat and spend a bit of time with their fans,

They can not do that if they do not live in the area.

Its about time Hurst sets an example and bring his family to the wonderful resort of Cleethorpes.

Very few people will uproot their family to a Town miles away for a one-year contract.

It may get renewed, it may not.  In the case of Hurst he's only ever a bad run of results away from losing his job altogether, granted he'll get compensation.

Totally unrealistic to expect anyone to move here.  We're geographically isolated and it's a major battle to overcome when we try to sign players.  Previously we've been able to offset that with the lower cost of living, but in the age of short term contracts we've almost lost that advantage as no-one will buy a house based on a one-year contract.

Car pools are travelling in are necessary parts of the modern game, even at much higher levels than ours.

Magnay made a fair point regards the car pool, the time and cost of driving in.  At this level these are the little details that can sway a decision.

What's wrong with renting? If he owns in Leeds, he can rent his out and probably rent one cheaper here. I'm a big Mags fan but where there's a will, there's a way - if he wants to play here then great, I'd love him to sign but not at any price and not to the detriment of the pay structure.

It's not that simple when you have family to consider.

If you get more than a years contract at this level you've done well. That's just the nature of the game. I don't but in to the whole travelling thing though. Plenty of people travel greater distances to work for less money.

If he wants to sign he will, if he doesn't that's his choice.

Lenny has gone to Wales for Christ sake, he's gambled and obviously fancied the move, Maggers could do the same and move to another club for a different challenge or he could stay and be idolised, it's entirely up to him.

Both Bristol and Cardiff both have pretty good areas to live in so a move to play in Newport is actually quite a good option. God help him if he ends up living in Newport though!

We all know that N.E. Lincs has some nice places to live as well, but we are at the end of the line somewhat so it is no surprise that many of our players over the years have preferred to commute in from the Sheffield/Leeds/Notts areas.

Bearing in mind the intent that the rest of the squad have shown and the fondness Carl showed for GTFC las season, he's going to look a bit foolish if he goes.

very very few lenders will entertain someone who MAY be able to earn for the next 5 or 6 years but then will have to do a career change. The rules changed significantly last year

Has Magnay only been offered a one year deal ?

After the season he has just had a two year contract should be the least we offer him,

He should still move to Cleethorpes though.

If imagine he's been offered 2 years but that's a purely a guess
