Not sure WTF it has to do with Matt Dean either way..............Good luck to Shaun he deserves a go and playing with better players at a better level I am sure he will thrive........Sad though as I always saw him as the skipper after Dis.

Can't blame him for that at all if true. Shame but Toto and Gowling are a decent pairing if they sign and that's a big if with what I've read.

Hope he fails and Barnsley get relegated. I'm a Grimsby Town supporter, not a Shaun Pearson supporter. If he wants to leave us then it's not up to us to wish success for him.

Good luck to him if true. Done more than enough for Town and can't begrudge him for furthering himself. Big jump though!

If it's true he might not even have played for us had we been in League 2.

Good luck to him. He has been brilliant for us. He deserves his opportunity and I am sure he will he will be a great player for them.

*Shrug*

No surprise that a good player might want to move up a couple of divisions. He's done well with us for a few seasons and has earned his wages so can't complain if he wants to better himself and become a League player.

Hopefully, some of the other defenders from last season will sign up for another year. If not, I expect Hurst will do his best to find some capable replacements.

Bit harsh that mate especially as the lad has worked his way up from obscurity ............ When did he not give 100% in a GTFC shirts?

I doubt it. Lots of centre halves don't have a great deal of pace ie John Terry but if you have guts and  positional sense then you can get away with it. At least he doesn't have to worry about his looks if he gets a boot in the face.

Shaun Pearson deserves to play in the Football League. He has done every thing he can to get Grimsby Town in there - full stop.

Can't blame him if he goes for an opportunity like that.

Super defender that will be difficult to replace but by no means impossible

Great opportunity for Shaun if true! Would have loved to see him stay as he's got better every season but you can't really blame him with an offer from a league 1 club!

Really sad to see him go. Great player and seems a smashing bloke. Hope he's a massive success and if he isn't then I hope he's back on loan by Christmas.

Most non league clubs only deal in 1\2 year contracts very few get longer deals

I think he'll do ok to be fair. Mind you, he's hardly Peter Handyside is he?!
He's been great for Town, always professional and always given his all.
I hope he's getting lots of money at Barnsley

How much are league one players on these days?  Barnsley averaged over 8,000 gates at home last season.

A footballers career isn't that long, I bet Pearson is at least trippling his wages, all the very best to him, I hope he makes the step up.

Don't know how much to read into this but Shaun has just been confirmed for one of the GTSET Courses tomorrow?

Fair plays to the lad we knew he was a bit special he stood out a mile at non league. True it's a big step but Shaun is doing what is right for him and to better himself.

I am sure he will do well where ever he goes he also as leadership qualities you could see that the way he controlled things at the back.Yes I am gutted as will Hurst be but not so bitter that I would wish bad things on him.

Good luck Pearson hope it works out well.

He's left with a job half done so I don't care about his future success. All I care about is success for Grimsby Town Football Club, not Barnsley. Fine, wishing failure is wrong but wishing total indifference for anyone leaving is isn't. It's their decision to go and they should be prepared to deal with the consequences.

Don't know a great deal about Barnsley. Have they got any regular centre halfs ? Will Pearson get a game ? Suppose I could google it but thought someone might know.

Let's face it, a few years ago we would have been giving off about how could one of our players possibly sign for feckin Yorkie b@stards. Not anymore. Now it's good on him, he's served us well and fully deserves a step up!

Yet another sign of how far we have fallen?

Barnsley signed Halifax Centre back Marc Roberts yesterday, on a three-year deal as well >>  http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32884304

I agree with you mate Marcus Maddison ran rings around him and got him booked in the play offs 2 seasons ago, even Magnay looked awful in pre season against Doncaster so moving dosn't mean your good enough at that level i hope they give him a 2 year deal because i think he will struggle the 1st season.

Marc Roberts was a good player at this level, very good on the ball was always going to move.

But thinking again Shaun Pearson he was helped big time by Ian Miller and Nathan Pond they helped his game big time.

Did you go to The Away game at Halifax? Roberts made Shaun look like Barasi! He hoofed it off the pitch 90% of the time and Town fans were laughing at him. He is a stopper centre back with a long throw.
For my money Pearson is FAR superior but Roberts is much younger so may improve

Shaun was never going to stay if we didn't get promotion, that's for sure. The bit that I'm struggling with is the reduction (alleged) in budget, didn't we make any money out of the play-offs?

Just can't see us getting out of this tinpot league any time soon.

Ok , Pearson gone , players come and go . Will see how much of a loss next season . Must be a wish for all non league players to try a stint in the league . Will he make it , don't  know ,  plenty more fish in the sea.  Might be interesting to see if Hurst changes his style  having had Pearson at Boston and here for years.   Onward and upwards  .

Where's the proof of this ? I can't find it anywhere...I think if they've signed Roberts then they might not bother....

(I may be sore at losing him but still I need hard proof of this as this just seems as just a rumour)

Yeah good luck to him, has been a great player for us, always gave his best. Sorry to see him go, just wish we could a fee for him and whoever else wants to leave. Also I really hope we don't lose this feel good factor  :-/

Can't believe anyone would wish failure on Pearson, he's given absolutely everything for this club.

Gutted he's leaving, if it is true but also delighted for the lad himself.  If anyone has deserved that chance to improve himself and at least treble his wages.

Pearson and Roberts as a centre-back pairing at League One level wouldn't fill me with much confidence though.  Prior to the play-off games I said if we go up and kept all three of our centre-backs, I felt Pearson was the one who would struggle to step up because of his lack of pace.  At League One he could be really exposed.  Roberts, for my money, isn't in the same class category as Pearson.

Ok cheers. I guess a cb pairing of toto and howling would be ok, as for rb...that'll be a hard position to find someone with talent (if magnay goes)...also as for lb I think Robertson is a sound improvement on previous players in that role...😉

Also on to the more optimistic view: if they have signed Roberts why would they want to sign another conference defender?
Posted by: moosey_club, May 28, 2015, 9:39am; Reply: 45
I just hope whoever tries to sign him doesnt find out about his knee ligament damage and recurring mystery back problems that have plagued his career so far.
Luckily for Shaun his best games have been on telly so a wider audience probably think he is decent  ;)

Pearson.... I think our rumour has emanated from Barnsley being after a different Pearson.

Someone may have got the wrong end of the stick as on their message board they are discussing our Shaun Pearson and suggesting that we have put 2 + 2 together and come up with 5 as it is a different Pearson that they are interested in.

Certainly hope so

He's not gone anywhere yet it's not time to say your goodbyes yet. This week negotiations are going up with 10 players, we are bound to keep a bit back to offer to waverers. None of these guys are earning big money.

To maybe he might resign for us,

I am going on holiday now , I can not stand all this excitement. ;D

Haven't been keeping up with the news / rumours. If Shaun is indeed on his way to the tarks then good luck to him. His contribution to a superb and solid defence these last three years  has sadly not been rewarded with the promotion medal he deserves. Any opportunities that come his way this summer are fully deserved and he would go with my best wishes.

Certainly bigger than us ! Just as good a history, a lot more potential in attracting larger crowds and played  at a lot higher levels in the past 10 years. I think a previous poster said they only had an average gate of 8,700 last season. Well we have to go back to 1980/81 season to better that.
