David Ross is now a billionaire,

That's a lot of money,

Anybody know why he does not want to be part of Grimsby Town FC. ?

Perhaps the best person to answer that question Pete is Town's majority shareholder.

I wouldn't expect an answer anytime soon though! ;)

Does he even support or have an interest in Town, or even football for that matter?  I'm sure he's a rugby man.

I think David Ross might be an even better person to ask.

Wasnt he involved with a consortium trying to buy Leicester City at one point? Edit: He was back in 2002 along with Lineker.

He was certainly on the board for a group called London United which was backing the 2018 World Cup bid and was set about to develop all of the infrastructure that would be needed for the hosting in and around London.

Can we have this thread pinned? It's been cropping up every few months for the last decade.

It's been stated he has great infinity with the club due to his fathers love of the club but why oh why will he not help us in this dark time

Absolutely. His education/academy set-up now has 35 schools to its' name - mostly in this area.

FAQ

Great idea. I can think of a few more:

- What's Danny North up to these days?
- Why don't we give away free tickets to the Osmond?
- Why don't we sell fish and chips?
- When are the playoff games?

Why are our highlights such poor quality?

I seem to think the Leicester consortium was more of a business interest, probably keeping cute with the other consortium members.

London United sounds exactly like a business venture.  Developing of all that infrastructure would have been a huge contract.

The point is that he's obviously not interested in having any involvement in GTFC and that's his choice.  Anyone hoping he's going to come in on a Carphone Warehouse emblazoned chariot and overthrow the evil Fenty is sadly going to be very disappointed.

Now come on Rodley, just because you live in Leeds doesn't mean you can't have a sense of humour. ;)

I swear many moons ago he offered to take over the club and Fenty refused (back when we was a couple of divisions higher)

Yes his dad was a big fan, I knew John and he was a decent bloke, not sure if he ever had thoughts of running the club though.

I know the reason for that, they get a big pad of paper, then scribble little figures in the corner then play it back by flicking quickly through the pages.

Although I understand they are going Hi Def soon by getting a better HB pencil.

Then it's a HD pencil, surely?

I consider it a sign of recent improved morale on The Fishy that this thread topic hasn't been posted for quite a few months.

Sort of connected to this, I recently met a business colleague of Mike Parker, who should also be the subject of threads like this.  I asked if Parker left because he fell out with Fenty and this guy gave me a knowing look and said "I can't possibly comment".

This discussion is raised far too often. He clearly isn't intetested and why would he? HIs only real remaining link to the town is a school...

For once I don't think the fact out majority shareholder is an egocentric controller is the reason Mr Ross won't invest...

I believe David Ross is a rather cunning businessman ..... which may explain why he doesnt want to invest in a football club regardless of how much money he has in the bank.

I believe the same can be said of football clubs which Warren Buffet said of Airlines:

"If you want to be a millionaire, become a billionaire and buy an airline..."

Maybe Ross is just too busy, too savvy and not willing to put up with the aggro of running GTFC.  A real shame.

Nah, he'll be too busy getting into trouble for breaking rules on the stock exchange and scuffling with escort girls.  ;)

Apparently he's buddies with Cameron as well, which makes me feel a little queasy. Fenty is bad enough, but that would really be beyond the pale!  :)

Possibly because you don't become a billionaire without being a greedy ba&%$rd

He does not have to run the club,

Just invest a few million,

Put his own man in charge to be the CHAIRMAN,

Then look at all the happy faces attending the new stadium,

ROSS  CASTLE (clap)

Is that because there's only room for one?

Well after his murky dealings in the demise of Cosalt, I will be thankful if Ross stays well clear of our club.

Others on this board will know more of the detail behind the story, but Private Eye were all over it the way Ross and his fellow directors behaved before, during and after Cosalt was put into administration, which speaks volumes. The Department for Business, Innivation & Skills refused to prosecute despite strong claims of breaches of the law by Cosalt's board, chaired by Ross.

In unrelated news, Wikipedia reports that Ross had donated £220,000 to the Conservatives by summer 2014.

Do you know any billionaires who aren't C U Next Tuesdays? Other than Buffet and Gates, of course.

Any 'businessman' who is happy to pull a company to pieces to make himself more money at the cost of hundreds or even thousands of jobs doesn't deserve any regard.

My dad worked at Cosalt on Convamore Rd spinning rope on permanent nights/12 hours shifts for years, never short of work and never understood why he was made redundant as they where "always busy". ............. "Investors" in clubs need to have integrity as well as cash.
