Magnay seems spot on with his assertions in every interview he gives. Shame Hurst doesn't pay more attention to what he's saying.

He certainly talks the talk, he's positive and I have to agree with him. Would he say the same things if he was a manager? I don't know. There seems to be a downbeat 'don't commit yourself' script for managers' interviews. Maybe it is part of their contract. :)

What managers say in public and what they say in private are probably much different. I wonder what Magnay's team mates think of his opinions. He was certainly having a go at one or two on Sat. Can't disagree with what he is quoted as saying though.

I made the point on my blog the other day - Magnay was the only Town player I saw trying to motivate the rest of the team after we conceded on Saturday.

He definitely seems captain material. He's honest and motivated - I'd play for him.

Not read the links (limited by cranky Internet connection in pub in York!), but I'd certainly agree that we could do with a different captain. For all his assets (which are decent for this level), Disley has never been a 'leader of men'. Magnay is a great player, communicates well and seems just the sort you need as a club captain.

Hope he gets the chance to be one next season (providing Disley isn't still at the club)!

Neither of them said anything other than the usual cliches that get wheeled out in every interview with a player or manager IMO . Basically it's the reason why I can never be arsed to listen to them

Thanks for sharing these, was so annoyed with Hurst's comments on Saturday, everytime Carl says anything he is the opposite of Hurst, positive and encouraging to Town fans.

I get managers want to protect their players and critcisng them week in week out would not be very productive, but occassionaly you have to, yet Hurst never ever admits we haven't been very good, the nearerst he has ever got is saying "we haven't played at the level we can play" before blaming the ref, at times I would of thought he would be yakking on about a conspiracy against us like Jose does in the PL.

Maybe 'Carl Magnay's Black & White Army' has a better ring to it?  ;)

Hurst has to answer to JF and the board for results on the field, the players only have to answer to their manager, one is to keep his job and the other is just opinionated, talks a lot of sense though,

Future Player Manager?

I'd make him captain tomorrow, with the offer of a two/three year contract to boot.

He's already hinted at " where's the dotted line" to sign, get it done before someone else beats us to it.

I would vote for him as President of the World.

I know this isn't going to be popular but all this Magnay bottom kissing is getting a bit cringeworthy now. He is a very good player at this level for sure, player of the season? Quite possibly. But all this adoration does seem a bit OTT for someone who is basically a conference player.

He's like a cross between Martin Luther King and Henry V.

Think he's a similar mould to Pearson, not a bad thing IMO.

Really rate Magnay a lot - really hope we can hang onto him for some time to come yet, provided he doesn't get too drunk off with the inconsistency of the rest of the team!

It's not bottom kissing as you call it........I think he too good for the level, he's a leader on the pitch, always claps the fans after every game home and away and says things how he sees things in the papers and on the radio. None of the BS that hurst spouts.....that's why I like the guy and he's 100% genuine imo

I can't disagree with you, but what make me cringe is comments like president of the world and him being mooted as the next manager (based on what?) maybe said in jest but he is being held up as a club legend based on only a very good 3/4 of a season.

I suspect president of the world may have been said in jest ?😜

I think you've probably taken my comment about President of the World in the completely wrong context.  ;)

Yes, but it does show how some of the others fall short in sprit and attitude
